I am currently living in San Francisco so San Franciscans in Philly can think of Mom's Organic Market akin to Rainbow Grocery in SF. Mom's has a great variety of local and organic produce. Hard to find items that you would find in a good well stocked natural food store or cooperative like Mom's is. Staff is friendly. The layout of the store is a labyrinth that can be confusing like a rubik's cube too far gone yet with a little patience and perhaps asking security, staff, or one of the regulars they can help you get your learning curve to navigate the store of organic natural food product heaven. Within Mom's is the Naked Lunch vegan restaurant which I will return to have a bite there as it looks interesting. I am a proud graduate of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, CO where I received the William S. Burroughs scholarship. I did my thesis on William S. Burroughs and William S. Burroughs wrote Naked Lunch aka the cut up novel for which this restaurant is named. Since I was in Philly two weeks I was mixing up dining out at the wonderful vegan foodie scene in Philly along with cooking at my homestay. For cooking at my homestay at Mom's I picked up the following: Soymilk Local and organic blueberries Bananas Garnet jewel sweet potatoes Limes Avocados Organic granny smith apples Red cabbage Ginger root Sweet yellow onion I am pretty sure all the produce was organic. Mom's has been family owned and operated since 1987. Great bulk bin items. Great produce. In a word, great. Mom's sets the bar high for a natural food store. They are like the special forces of natural food stores which is quite alright in my book. Each day Mom's states customers prevent 9,233 grocery bags from being used. Mom's has banned over 250 ingredients from our products storewide. Mom's has chosen to print their receipts on BPA and BPS free paper products for the safety of it's community and the environment. In a word...Yes!

The difference was honestly pretty dramatic. At the Art Museum location, my bag contained a single package of turkey breast that unfortunately had already gone bad by the time I opened it. At this South Street location, I received four packages of beef patties, and everything was still fresh when I picked it up. As a direct comparison, I cooked the meat from both pickups the same day I received them, and the freshness difference was immediately obvious. No sour smell, no questionable quality, just perfectly usable products that I was happy to take home and cook. The value here was significantly better too. I know Too Good To Go bags are always a bit of a surprise, but I genuinely didn't expect such a large difference between locations under the same store brand. When I arrived, the instructions directed me to customer service. Since it was my first time picking up from this location, I wasn't entirely sure of the process. The interaction felt a little abrupt, and I got the sense that the staff member assumed I already knew where to go. To be fair, it was close to closing time and the weather wasn't great, so it may have just been one of those days. I didn't take it personally. On the other hand, the employee at the meat counter was fantastic. Very friendly, efficient, and had the bags ready almost immediately. The pickup itself was quick and easy once I got to the right place. One thing I did notice was a slight fishy smell in parts of the store. It actually reminded me of some Asian grocery stores I've been to. Not necessarily a dealbreaker, just unexpected in a Whole Foods. Overall, I'd choose this location over the Art Museum one without hesitation, especially for Too Good To Go pickups. Better value, fresher food, and a much more satisfying experience overall. I was genuinely impressed by how much was included in the bags and how fresh everything was when I got it.

The employees at the Amazon desk are pleasant and efficient. There usually isn't a line for returns here either. I was surprised to see Good Culture cottage cheese in stock today, so I grabbed one before they sold out again. I also picked up a rose flavored yogurt that I'm very excited to try. Self checkout lanes make for a quick and easy experience purchasing groceries.

Overall, a decent place to work or linger in their cafe/eating area. Wi-fi is good, and there's a good amount of seating around. However, due to its open nature, it's also host to a lot of folks that you wouldn't prefer to be in the immediate vicinity of, such as this morning, where things seemed to be more crowded because of the cold outside. Otherwise, stock is fairly good, though I've had a higher share of looking for things that are out of stock here than in other Whole Foods locations. It also tends to be overcrowded here, as a lot of the Center City and Rittenhouse crowd will do their shopping here-- do avoid the after work time unless you have a good amount of time and patience.

They're the only place I can reliably find those specialty jasmine and rose yogurts I love. Overall, Whole Foods is great if you're not getting Too Good To Go. The staff is always super nice and the quality is generally higher, which explains the premium prices. You really do get what you pay for when you shop normally. But for Too Good To Go, I cannot recommend it. I tried the meat, seafood, and flower packs and had issues with all three. The meat was already spoiled when I got it. I cooked it the same day since I hadn't eaten dinner yet and ended up getting horribly sick. It only smelled a little sour so I thought it was fine, but I vomited into the night. What bothers me most is that if they gave it to me that day, that means earlier in the day it was still being sold at full price to regular customers. That's concerning. The seafood pack was skimpy for what you pay, though at least it didn't make me sick. And the flower pack was ridiculous. I expected flowers, obviously, not two bags of salad. It's only a dollar difference, but it still feels like getting duped. So yeah, don't do Too Good To Go at Whole Foods. It's not worth the risk or the disappointment. As for regular shopping, I do enjoy the hot food section. There's a lot to choose from and their soups are consistently amazing. Great treat-yourself option, especially on a cold day. Conclusion: skip the Too Good To Go. But for normal shopping, Whole Foods is still a great place.
