When I moved to Charlotte this year, I was looking for a new comic store. I shopped around a bit until I found Rebel Base. They really enjoy what they do! We nerd out over some of our favorite writers and they have suggested a few comics that I have absolutely loved. And I'm still new to collecting and the comic world, which is sad considering I'm 40 and wasted all these years not getting into it sooner. Yet, they don't judge and have taught me a lot. It reminds me of the shop I had to leave behind in Raleigh in the move here. It's the best place in all of Charlotte to goto. They will take care of you and get you set up. I only come here and they have done great with holding my subscriptions when I have been busy with work. Can't recommend them enough! read more

I really enjoy visiting this place. Before you even make it to the door you see the hallway out front is lined with posters for comics and games of all sorts. I've always thought Rebel Base was aptly name due to the interesting location. It's in kind of an underground strip mall below a few other shops. Always makes me think I'm entering some cool secret lair. Once you do make it inside the pop culture nerdiness hits you in the face like a brick. I mean that in the best way of course. This place is like my inner child's wonderland. Comics, toys and collectibles are everywhere, floor to ceiling. The biggest majority of comics are in two huge aisles off to left with new issues on the shelf and back issues in long boxes. Whether you're looking something from Marvel, DC, or one of the smaller independent publishers they probably have it. Directly ahead is a massive counter with some of the bigger toys and figures. Might be my favorite part of the store. No big box store ever had a selection this impressive, and it's varied too. There are toys and collectibles for Transformers, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC, GI Joe, Godzilla, Sailor Moon, DBZ, Gundam and thats just the more recognizable stuff. Up behind the front desk they have some of the more valuable comics in plastic on the walls and the counter itself has tons of little knick knacks and even a few card game boosters packs and such. I know this review is a lot of me just praising how cool this place is but I feel like thats important to get across. There's not really another place like this that I know of around Charlotte. A lot of "comic" stores end up splitting they're time between comics, toys, card games, tabletop games and sometimes even video games, and while I do enjoy all of those things it's nice to see a place that knows what their focus is and do it so well. One other quick note. I'm no professional collector or anything but the prices on most of what I looked at seemed pretty fair. Obviously the higher quality and rarer things may cost you a few extra bucks, but you have to think you're paying for the convenience of not having to hunt them down. If any of this sounds even remotely interesting you should stop on by. It's truly a site to behold and as far as I'm concerned Rebel Base is one of Charlotte's hidden treasures. read more

We found some very old comic books of my fathers, from the 1940s. Troy and team made an assessment and made what we think is a very fair price based on the quality and condition. It was a very pleasant experience for us. I would recommend him and his store without any reservations. read more

Downstairs in the building with little natural light, I found this comics shop to be a lot more crowded and claustrophobic. Which is not to say that they don't have a large selection of neatly displayed comics and then a whole lot of other statuettes, games and toys for the comic book fans and others. This place is solid packed with comics and the folks working are helpful. read more

There is no better place in Charlotte for geeks to buy toys and comics than Rebel Base. Yes, there might be a shinier place with better PR and its own convention, but I always feel more comfortable in this tucked-away place that's stuffed with geek treasures. Toys and action figures are really the emphasis, but there are loads of new and back-issue comics for sale. Get a "subscription" (reserve your favourite titles to come in and pick up) and you'll receive a nice discount. You can even find a small selection of used DVDs sometimes. If they don't have something, ask if they can order it for you. The owner and his employees are extremely knowledgeable and will help if you need it, but they won't pester you. Regulars like to hang out on Wednesdays after work -- new comic day! -- and talk before they make their purchase. You can park in the front and head downstairs, past the Great Clips. The sign says "Comics & Toys" instead of "Rebel Base," by the way. My husband and I have started parking in the back, which might be a little harder to find but it's worth it. read more

I travel a good bit throughout the eastern seaboard and always find myself visiting local comic shops. The staff was excellent, very nice, as well as knowledgeable. They seem to specialize in new Comics, trade paperbacks, various action figures and Toys. From a comic backstock in long-boxes standpoint, they have a light selection of mostly Comics from the 2000s to present. They also have a small selection of "Wall" books. read more

"Toys" means a wide assortment of comic book and sci-fi/horror movie figurines all in mint boxes. And they have several racks of the most recent comic book releases. It doesn't say Rebel Base on the sign outside, just Comics & Toys. But it's easy parking and quick to find in the basement of the shopping center alongside Great Clips hair salon. read more

This is very unique cool little hole in the wall feel kinda of shop. Plenty of inventory(literally stuff all over the place on every wall). New comic stock is plentiful and since they cleaned up and re-organized a bit, you can actually get around the store! Unfortunately thats all the good that can be said about this place. Most toys are priced at or above what you find them online for. They definitely "know what they have", and that's understandable...but its not gonna make me NEED to buy it if i know its priced at or above online somewhere. Feature wall of comics is always overpriced. Every major or minor key issue is priced more than it should be. A few staff members dont know enough about comics, especially the ones on the feature wall. FORGET about buying a slabbed comic here. EVERY SINGLE ONE i checked pricing on GoCollect and they were 20%(sometimes 50%!) more than whats been sold on eBay. Super disappointed. 3 stars because pricing on most stuff, a few team members not so knowledgeable about comics. read more

I had spoken to the owner of this shop about a month or so ago to see if they could help me. I was literally shaking like a leaf, while I had to tell them my entire "sally sob story"; I'm a young widow, having to sell part of his collection because I was in desperate need of money to be with my family before my ailing grandfather passed away. (I am beyond grateful that I was able to go see him and talk to him before he passed away on December 7th, 2018.) They went through my most rare collection of vintage comics, checking their value and seeing what I should possibly sell, to get to the amount of money I needed. I cannot emphasize how understanding, kind and most of all, how honest they were with me. They even set aside a few of my really rare ones and told me that they couldn't have me part with them in good conscience, because of their value and possible sentimental value. I had told them that I would eventually need to sell more of them later and they were willing to work with me, to go through this whole entire process once again... In conversation, I had mentioned that I also own over 50 long boxes of vintage comics (full runs, boarded/bagged and labeled). Would you believe it if I said that they offered to help me, when I am ready to, they'd help go through my entire collection, pull out the comics that have higher values, so that if I ever decided to sell them as bulk, I wouldn't sell the really valuable ones by accident? WHO DOES THAT!?!?!?!? You won't find places or people like this often, besides the fact that they are a TRUE comic store, unlike most of the others around the area that are geared more towards RPG game nights. They sell new and vintage comics at really reasonable prices, they have a plethora of dioramas, toys, collectibles, you name it... There're no gimmicks, no fancy BS decor, it's where TRUE collectors go to shop. They are extremely knowledgeable, approachable with questions, amazing to just talk to them to be honest and they made me feel so comfortable through the whole entire process. I'm so grateful and relieved to find this little gem in Charlotte... I cannot say enough great things about this place and especially about the people in there. Woo-hoo, part II of my self-proclaimed comic book geek tour of Charlotte. Rebel Base Comics is located on the lower level of a shopping center. Walk in and your eyes just don't know where to look (in a good way). Loads of comic books, graphic novels and tons of toys! The staff are very friendly. Rebel Base is a probably one of my favourite shops in town. Especially, after my experience the other day. I was in dire need of a awesome Star Trek or Godzilla type gift for a good friend. I stopped in at 11am hoping they were open to find they were closed but cleaning up post Hero-con weekend. The owner let me in and shop around very cool. Considering it was 3 hrs early. They have a strong comic selection and even better toy selection. The store brings back so many memories with tons of 70's and 80's toys. The only thing missing was some Yo! Mtv Rap cards. Their pricing on the toys or action figures is right where it should be and not absurdly expensive. I will definitely be back in. I made it a point to break away with my boys and scope out a few comic shops on my recent trip to Charlotte. Based upon the name alone Rebel Base was instantly my number one choice to visit. The location is pretty cool. Walking downstairs and going underneath a little plaza is a good first impression, and it really does a great job of setting the tone for walking into a comic haven. Walking past a Great Clips kills the vibe a little bit, but once you hit the comic posters you're right back in the zone. This place has a lot for a small space. Toys, comics, graphic novels, and all kinds of odds and end comic-world related items. They pack a lot into the space they have, so it's definitely good to take your time and absorb it all. You don't want to miss a good find. It's on the brink of feeling cluttered. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It just makes it hard to check out certain items or areas of the store. I went here two days in a row. My biggest gripe is that the first day the staff was a little standoffish. I prefer my comic shops to have chatty and enthusiastic staff. It's a big part of what keeps the culture alive. Day one I didn't come close to getting that. Day two I totally got that. I would assume the guy working was the owner or a manager. He was super friendly and was quick to chat with me about the comic I was buying. If that was more consistent among all the staff here it would go a long way. Overall I like this place and will surely return. One important thing I noticed is that they don't price gouge on the more common or trivial variant covers out there. Where some places push single recent issues to ten bucks just because they have variant covers Rebel Base had many at normal price which is commendable. The force is strong here! read more

Rebel Base reminds me of the comic book stores I went to growing up. Not the condescending ones often used as cliches (looking at you Comic Book Guy), but the places where you can bask in your fandom and find other like-minded geeks. The staff is incredibly friendly and their selection is insane. You can spend days going through it all and still find new things. Granted, the variety leads to clutter and I wish the place was just a bit bigger to accommodate it all, but I've always enjoyed spending time here. read more

This was a pretty cool place and the somewhat hidden location down the stairs makes the name of the shop even more apropos. This is spot I would go if looking for geeky items that include not only comic books, but vintage toys and other stuff. The space is limited and a little cramped, but I appreciate that when the merchandise is interesting. They also had a couple of gaming tables setup outside, which I thought was cool. This place is fantastic!! My son is in love with Doctor Who and this is the place to go. They are helpful, knowledgeable, and have something for everyone. They had so much more than we expected to find in Doctor Who, but they also had a plethora of Star Wars, Harry Potter, DC comics as well as action figures, novels, posters. As someone who loves collectables you can't go wrong here! They have tons and tons of collectables that I couldn't find anywhere else! They also have a great Funko Pop supply which is what I was there to check out! The only negative is they are kind of all stacked on top of each other so it is kind of hard to see everything without digging and digging. This place rocks the comics and toy worlds for me. ive been going for years and have gotten to know the owner who is a fan himself and knows exactly what im looking for when i walk in. wall to wall comics and my favorite wall to wall toys. im a huge superman fan and the guys will pull me a figure or book and hold it untill i get there so i dont miss it which is great. you could easily spend hours in this store re-living your child hood or stand amazed at all the new stuff they have.you cant go anywhere else for your one stop shopping and get all the comic,toy,movie related needs. i truley cant praise or say enough good things about this place. i truly reccomend REBEL BASE COMICS to any comic fan in and around Charlotte...sure there are other places here but one visit and i think you'll agree...this is the DISNEY LAND of comics. or it is for me anyway! read more

This place probably has the biggest selection of random stuff I've ever seen. They have comics old and new, back issues, and graphic novels. Plus they have the strangest assortment of action figures and toys you'll find. I never even knew they had Stargate Atlantis action figures. Absolutely amazing. I don't even know where to start when talking about this place. I am from Philly and was on trip down to Charlotte last week. Prior to that I had done my research into some comic book shops in the location (of course, the main store I kept hearing about was Heroes Aren't Hard to Find)... this store blew every other store I went to clear out of the water. The feeling of approaching the underground dwelling place of this store was almost enough, alone, to make this the best excursion of my vacation. Everything about being near and in this place is EPIC. I was aware that this place had an incredible assortment of vintage toys, but I was shocked to find how much my expectations were exceeded. I will get back to the toys in a moment. The comic book collection was enough to put many modern comic book shops to shame, and yet it hardly felt like a comic book store at all. The comics were just an appetizer, and addition to the real meat of the store. There were, of course, MtG cards for sale, as well as a variety of other TCGs (Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon, etc) and a good assortment of modern toys and games.... but I almost cried when I saw an entire quarter of a wall covered in Batman toys that I played with in my childhood. THIS STORE IS AN EXPERIENCE. I could have spent years in here picking things out, but I only had enough for a few MtG boosters, a 90s Ben Grimm Toy for a friend, and an Orochimaru figurine for myself. Living so far away from Charlotte makes it feel, almost, painful that I've ever been to this store at all. I must go back some day. read more

There products have a pretty far range that any comic book fan could easily appreciate. I picked up a Tales from The Crypt toy here, I haven't heard anything about that crazy show in years. Anyways it creeped me out as a kid, and that is a nice nostalgic feeling right? The staff is pretty entertaining, as is a lot of comic book fans that have so much knowledge about their hobby, or more of an obssesion.
