This place has become one of my favorite place of all Charlotte 1 because it's 3 minutes from my home at bellheaven 2 because my 3 boys love this icecrean shop 3 because as soon we walk in it feels like back in the good time of cartoons and comics books of super heroes collection figure. Them ice cream are super delicious and testy especially the coconut one!. me and my kids enjoy it because we can bring our uno cards and have funs and laugh as freely We can! I recomendé to everyone of all age.! so plz come and enjoy the best ice cream of town. The action figure and comics books are diferent price some are low price and some are high price but everything of original material so i think the price goes wit the material! This is my favorite comic book shop in all of Charlotte. Its not the biggest, it doesn't have the most product, it doesn't have autographing events, but to me it is a straight forward comic shop. They have a good selection of comics, graphic novels, and collectibles. They also sell ice cream/milkshakes, etc. I've yet to partake of the sweet treats, but everyone that I've seen order them, appears to enjoy them fairly well. I like the "feel" of the place. You can tell it was started by someone that LOVES comics and the geek life. Which means they are my people. I enjoy talking with the young man who usually works when I make my monthly pilgrimage. I appreciate this place and I usually end up spending more than I originally intended to. I don't mind supporting them because I want them to be around for a very long time. Easily the most hospitable and genuine game store in the Charlotte area. The store is very well managed and the customer service is superb. Gave me a welcome place to spend my time after moving down from Upstate New York and I will always be thankful for that. read more

What a great little comic shop! It has a nice variety of comics, Pokémon cards, nerd merch, books and games. I definitely prefer them to some others in the Charlotte area due to their variety. (Comics alone gets a bit old for this mom anyway.) They even sell hand scooped Hershey's ice cream and have pinball machines. The manager (owner??) was super helpful when my 10 year old and I visited. I am a Pokémon noob and totally didn't know what I was buying or what he needed. He helped me to learn/understand what packs and tins do what. We ended up getting a tin after the education. I googled what the tin cost elsewhere afterward and while he was about $3 over priced, I'm all for supporting a passionate small business owner. Another cool thing is that they have Pokémon tourneys on Saturdays. We may venture out there one Saturday morning to try one out. read more

This seems like a neat little spot. I took my nephew in to look for Pokémon cards and the guy at the counter was very helpful and kind. I am not well versed in the world of comics and card games, but the shop had a nice variety of merch from what I could tell. My nephew can't wait to go back. read more

My boyfriend and I drive 30 minutes to visit Spandex City, even though we have a couple game stores that are closer. We do it for the friendly staff, the unique product selection, and the bright atmosphere, even if the store is a little smaller than most. No place else in Charlotte makes us feel as comfortable and welcome. We enjoy playing Magic: the Gathering, and we've participated in pre-releases, drafts, and even a two-headed giant sealed. They offer a lot of unique game types too! Michael, the store owner, always seems to be present, and he is a VERY helpful guide for anyone new to Magic or just in need of rules help. Events are very organized, and the people that seem to be regulars are relatively friendly as well. The events usually don't get overcrowded. Like most game stores, you can't bring in your own outside food or drink, but they do have a selection of drinks and snacks you can purchase. However, something that gives them an edge in this realm is that they also allow you to order food from nearby restaurant partner Mr. Geero, AND they just opened their own ice cream shop that will deliver ice cream and smoothies right to your seat! That is SO awesome for those long Magic tournaments where you get starving and just can't catch a chance to pop out for lunch. They often do free raffle prizes during the bigger Magic events (for items like giant spindowns & play mats), and they offer bonuses for pre-registering for events. And best of all... they have a points system called Hero Bucks. Basically, the way it works out in a nutshell, is that for every $100 you spend (cumulative, not just in one visit; AND this applies to event registration fees too), you get $10 off ANYTHING. Extra discounts off Magic cards? I'm in! Overall, give this place a visit, especially if you're looking for a friendly, non-intimidating place to play Magic. Love this place! My hubby was longing for a place closer to home instead of driving all the way to PBKW & we stumbled upon Spandex City! It's family-run and operated and just a quaint little shop! The staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about just about any genre of comics you can be into! Plus, they can find things for you if it's not in stock or in inventory! They have card game tourneys, if you or your kids are into that, and let you order outside food from 2 approved vendors. I really like going because it's tidy and well-stocked and so much fun talking with the staff! Check them out & make a new friend! read more

I really enjoy playing casual commander there on Thursday evenings it is $5 Rom 6:30 to 9 and in you play in a group of 3 to 5 people. You get a booster pack and a promo card. They also sell ice cream. The space for playing is a bit small. They don't sell individual magic cards only packs. read more

I passed this place many times when I was in the area and never went in until recently. MY LOSS! The store is almost spotless, the staff are out going and friendly, I now go out of my way to shop here even though there is a store closer to me. Our first visit to Spandex Comics was for Free Comic Book Day. A lot of comic stores had events for this day, but Spandex City seemed, by far, to put in the most effort. They did NOT disappoint, it was AWESOME! We had a great time. Not only was it fun for the kids, but I loved that they included activities to give back to The Make A Wish Foundation and the Wounded Warrior Fund. There were Storm Troopers (who "arrested" people for a donation to the Make a Wish Foundation), Dr. Who with K-9, KITT from Knight Rider (for the Wounded Warrior Fund), a blow up obstacle course for the younger kids, and more! We were getting ready to leave at just before 3:00pm and people were still showing up. The girls at Town Hall fit them in even though the event was to end at 3:00pm! A lot of effort went into this event and it showed. We'll be back for sure. read more

Do not come here for free comic book day. I just spent three hours waiting to get comics and left without anything. They make you look around for numbers to write down as a scavenger hunt in order for you to get a comic. Such a poorly managed event. I will never come here again. read more

Took a risk on a $60 game based on their 'play it forward' program. When we really disliked the game I took it back, pristine and in box, but they wouldn't exchange it via that program. Most comic and games shops become community and used game centers, but not this one. read more

This place is staffed with friendly people and the environment is spot on! I have gone to this place a few times now and while they do not keep an enormous stock on hand they have a great selection! I can not stress how much I've enjoyed coming to this store. From the day it opened I've been a huge fan of Spandex City. I have found the staff friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. The idea of a family friendly geared comic book store is so intelligent I'm amazed I don't see it more often. I've hosted several events and fund raisers at this location and have found the management very easy to work with. I find it calming and enjoyable just to sit in here and chat with other customers about their comic book preferences and fandoms. As a gamer I've always had a good time at their sanctioned tournaments and pick up a good amount of my general gaming supplies here. I'm delighted other folks seem to agree with me and are rating it so highly. read more

I and my children would go the place and yes the comic store does have alot of different items to choose from but one of my children was having a problem with an employee there and made my child feel very uncomfortable. The issue was never resolved by owner so we dont go anymore. Found another comic store that is child friendly and i am very happy ! read more

I have only bought comic books and never participated in any game events, so I can't comment on that, but as a comic book store, Spandex City is great. The owners are nice people and very helpful. They bag and board all of the comics. You can go on Spandexcity.com and create a pull list, and you will get an email when your books have come in. The store doesn't sell back issues older than a few months, so you will be out of luck if you want older comics. I suggest visiting the website or just going to the store to see what else they offer. My son, Wesley and I have enjoyed coming a few times now, you guys make it a lot of fun. We love the scavenger hunt! What a cool way to receive free comics :) This year I think we were in and out of the free comic area in about 15 minutes but we hung around for hours taking in the entire experience. This year a lady told my son she liked his red hair and he looked down at the ground and said "thanks" and I told her how he gets bullied for having red hair and about 3 other people started chiming in telling him how cool red hair was. That was amazing to us both. The people we meet there have always been great and it is great for my son who doesn't quite fit in anywhere else to get that chance to feel like he fits in with others. Your featured artist also took time to encourage Wesley to keep drawing and he'd get there with style and speed as he was doing, that was so wonderful as well. I truly appreciate the opportunity to give my son these small moments that will leave such large impacts on his life in the future. Thank you for everything you do each year! read more

I recommend Spandex City wholeheartedly, specifically for gaming (my experience with them), although they have a bright and welcoming store for comics, graphic novels and fan gear, too. The owners were both successful engineers in their professional lives and they decided to take the plunge and open the store a few years ago. They are great parents and have created a very family friendly, kid friendly shop. They're a small place, so it never gets overwhelmingly crowded, and for gaming, they are known among the stronger players in this area as a more friendly, relaxed tournament environment. They often have enough younger players at their events to enable a separate section for kids, and it's a safe place to leave a child for the course of an event. I play there when I can, but it's not all that often as the location is far from my home. There is a Subway and a coffee shop adjacent, so there are food options. read more
