What a fantastic facility!…read more I play in a recreational sports league called "SuperJocks", where 5 teams of women play a different sport each week. Many of our games are booked at the Calgary Jewish Center, so after a number of years in this league, I am quite impressed with this facility. I haven't seen the entire centre, but the area that I frequent has a very large gym, well-equipped change rooms, and our games are played in a fully stocked gymasium, where we play volleyball, basketball, dodgeball, floor hockey and soccer. I have also taken some yoga classes there, and their yoga studio is very impressive as well! If you live in the SW, definately check out the programs at this center. It is open to all to take fitness classes!

Prices are reasonable for admission and food (actually cheap for food/snacks). The pool is heated so even on a cooler day you are warm when you are in the pool. Our kids love it. This year we decided to try out the swim lessons. They are Red Cross Certified and the same ones we take through Cardel Place, just less time. This was initially a concern for me and in the end my son didn't do so well (but then again he didn't do so well at Cardel either). My daughter on the other hand excelled in her lessons. For those kids that might be slower on the uptake of learning (like my son in swimming) I'm not so sure missing out on 2 hours of learning time (Highwood 2.5 hours vs Cardel 4 hours) is to their (or his) advantage. I know of another 4 yr/old who has had to repeat his lessons a couple of times at Highwood so again the amount of learning time raises a question. I certainly like the facility, it's clean, everyone who works there is friendly and clearly loves their job, the instructors really good, but I think less instructional time is not good for kids who are having challenges. One of my doctors has been coming here for years for lessons and has also expressed the same concerns regarding time constraints (I ran into her this week). Great place for an afternoon with the kids and they offer summer camps here - how fun!

Elizabeth is always nice to me, and has gotten me to start going back to gyms after a 2 year hiatus to pursue calisthenics. When Shakespeare wrote of the transcendental beauty of Olivia in Twelfth Night, it was highly likely the mental image he conjured up was that of Elizabeth. I get sad when I don't get to see Elizabeth. In fact, the customer service she has provided has been second to none. If I was an employer, I would model my entire employee training structure around how well she handles customers. Frankly, I would be surprised if Elizabeth did not find herself rapidly ascending the ranks of MNP and taking on a very high level position. It would be a discredit to MNP if that did not happen. Elizabeth is absolutely 100% amazing. The GOAT. I think Michael Jordan writes Elizabeth fan mail. I could go on. But I won't. But I could. You get the picture. You BETTER get the picture. An outdoor pool for adults and kids as well as a kids wading pool for those little babies/toddlers. Since this pool is run by the Hillhurst/Sunnyside association the price is very reasonable to get in. A very economical activity for families. They have a grassy area where you can lay down your towels/blanket and sit. They also have a few plastic chairs to use however those get scooped up fast, so come early if you want a chair. On hot days, this place is always packed especially with kids. As for food. I would pack a few snacks or even a picnic and bring them. This pool has very limited snacks and no real food. Things like popsicles, chips and chocolate bars only. Do note, they only accept cash. Swimming makes you hungry, so come prepared with food or with cash. Great little place to escape the heat and be outside swimming. As we know Calgary doesn't have many of these outdoor pools and this place has been around a long time. I hope it never closes but it sure can use some renovations. It really is a great gem!!!!

The only thing I think that this library does not have is the stationary computers that you can print fro because with you library card you get $5.00 of free printing a month and I couldn't find a printer for that here. Also their kid zone is a little smaller than the others. They have great programs. One program that I went to on a Thursday was the science program that is in the afternoon and they did a segment on optical illusions!

Once you're inside, the aquatic centre consists of the front desk, change room and pool. That's it. I think this is the perfect pool to get an aquatic workout. There are ropes and a small slide. The centre does look older, but I think, again, it was so worth the money that I didn't care about the extras like a hot tub, sauna or steam rooms. They also have affordable swimming classes, about $50 for 6-7 lessons, which I am looking forward to get some more information about.
