You'd think a store staffed primarily by women would understand when a customer is indecisive, especially a woman running on no sleep because of a teething toddler, but instead of leaving their post behind the counter - all 5 employees, by the way - they stood there until she entered the dressing room and then called the police. When she emerged from the fitting room, there he was, plain clothes, badge front and center, making it as uncomfortable for her to browse as possible. Even after she was ready, or shamed into, making her purchase (which I'm returning this morning) the cop still circled close by, like a vulture. DESPITE this, she bought her shirt and pullover and didn't tell me any of this until late last night. Back to me toddler for a moment, two days ago (we've been here 3 times in 3 days) our child was running around, not hurting anything or making a mess but apparently that's just too much for such a stoic, reserved store as Alabama Outdoors. The feeling of contempt was palpable so, parents, don't bring your children. That game of Peek-a-boo behind the rack of pullovers is uncalled for per the rules of this subpar store. Spend your money at more deserving places like Red Beard's or go across the Bay to Coastal Outfitters, where at least if you can't make up your mind, they'll offer to help instead of having a cop harass you until you leave. It's inexcusable. We've shopped there since they opened, stopping only after our daughter was born because we were focused on more important things. This Christmas marks the first time since she was born that we really went out as a family, excited to see her reaction to the decorations and people in general. Yesterday, everyone we saw at the Eastern Shore Center was polite and happy. Our daughter was waving and talking to anyone that would acknowledge her, something Alabama Outdoors seemed pained to do, so it's not us in the wrong in this scenario. It's their complete failure at being polite. Maybe we're just not their target audience...but who is? 20-something yuppies who's only true outdoor excursions involve drinking on patios? Asking because, again, we've never been treated so poorly at Red Beard's or Coastal. This is the only reason I'm returning the shoes I bought and the stuff she bought - a complete disregard for customer service. Remember this: you work there. We shop there. You exist because we allow you to exist but unless you learn how to properly treat customers you will be nothing but a showroom for Amazon.

While the store is well stocked with helpful and professional folks it's just a personal decision that I choose not to patronize the Dick's stores due to, in my opinion, bad corporate decision making. Again, a personal belief that public companies should maintain political neutrality and avoid the adoption of woke policies, and focus instead on their primary objective of providing valuable products and services to customers. It appears that I'm far from the only one who feels this way but it shouldn't come as a surprise because at company adopting controversial and divisive policies should know that they likely run the risk of alienating a significant portion of their customer base. It's probably the case since Dick's continues to drop in profitability due to the nature of policies the company either directly or indirectly supported. Don't get me wrong, free speech is vital regardless, and free trade and business should always be protected. I'm just personally ticked at any company, regardless of politics or beliefs, who feel it necessary to implement, in my opinion, stupid policies on their customers and employees. Common sense dictates that maintaining political neutrality best allows companies to focus on serving all customers, regardless of their personal beliefs, and ensures that they do not lose business due to divisive politics. Bottom line: If companies are truly committed to addressing social issues, they should focus on substantive actions, such as improving working conditions, investing in education and training programs, or contributing to local community initiatives.

They don't carry many of the same brands, or as many options of them, in store. Their selection for The North Face, Patagonia, etc. is minimal. However, every time I come to this location, staff are friendly and the store is clean. If I happen to need assistance, someone is willing to help. Thankfully they carry a nice selection of workout apparel, including Nike, Under Armour, CALIA, and their very own DSG brand. They also have a nice variety of sport-specific gear-- baseball, football, basketball, soccer, etc. They offer leisure and/or sport equipment, such as for cycling, hiking, indoor exercise/training, fishing, hunting, etc. Their shoe department is sufficient, but it isn't extensive. They offer the major shoe brands for running, walking, training, and lifestyle use, but you're not going to find A TON of styles for each; it isn't a SHOE store with that kind of inventory. But it's nice to see what you can get in-store, or if the store can order something for you from their website (dickssportinggoods.com). I love HIIT workouts at OTF and I enjoy sports and being outdoors, so this store is my little slice of heaven for meeting all my sport-related needs!
