One of the best places in Pullman to go with a big group. The menu is enormous so there will always be something for everyone! They have teriyaki, Chinese food, sushi, and Thai. I always get the bento box, lots of variety and a good price, especially considering that there's enough for two meals! I recommend the beef teriyaki, the sauce is so good. I miss it so much when I'm away from school, because there is no teriyaki as good as Red Bento's near me. My biggest complaints relate to take out- some times you can call for half an hour and no one will answer, which is super frustrating. And when you get there, you have to wait in the most cramped little corner while people going to the bathroom step over you. The place is decent. The wait staff doesn't go above and beyond their duties but they don't fall below standard. This place serves sushi, chinese, korean and terrayaki. The sushi is really Americanized. The rolls are very large and difficult to put all the way into your mouth. There are certain items that are good and certain ones to abosolutely stay away from. The Chinese food is pretty bad, it is new to the menu though. Bento boxes are good and for a resonable price. Stay away from the korean food though... Their best dish is the beef yakisoba but I'm sure the chicken and prawns are also good. Do ask for tea with your meal, it is a nice complement to the meal and free! I've had great experiences at the Pullman Red Bento. The service is gracious, helpful, and attentive. The restaurant is often at full capacity and beyond on Fridays and Saturdays., but I am actually impressed with the service abilities of such a small location. Yes, I have run into having to wait to be seated - but never for longer than a few minutes. I will admit that the location for waiting is a bit awkward, but the venue is new and like I said, I haven't had to wait for very long. The sushi is Americanized sushi, but is delicious and fresh. I often order from the sushi menu and sometimes order a bento box or teriyaki chicken dinner/lunch. I have also had their Gyoza. All of these items were well prepared and delicious. I have had the bulgogi and I wasn't impressed - I think it would be better as strips of beef rather than mince. But it was still flavorful and enjoyable. Overall, I love Red Bento. I was a big fan of the Moscow location and was excited by the Pullman location's opening. I go there almost weekly and have begun to know the staff. It's not a perfect joint, there are places for improvement, as there is with any place. But for the price and for an Asian-American restaurant in the middle of the Palouse, it's a great place with good food and good service. And the fact that they do to-go with reasonable and appreciable speed even on their busiest nights, is a great plus. read more

The service I had was great and they were very busy, I ordered and the food came and the rice in the bento box ans sushi was dry but still ok. I asked where the restroom was and told the waitress to make sure they did not clear my table, I was gone maybe 1 minute and came back to find everything was gone. The waitress was mortified but the Manager offered me 5 dollars off from my 30 dollar tab......I still had more than half of my food left to enjoy. Felt awkward,but I just waited at the sign to be seated.I finally got seated,but there were no silverware on the table at all.It was just a nampkin with chopsticks.My first thought was,"you got to be kidding me".I mean ,how silly is that.I waited a couple of minutes,then got some glass of water and soup.And waited a long time to get my dinner.I had to drink the soup,out of the bowl,since they did not bother to have the courtysey to give me a spoon. I'd like to take a minute to set the record straight, there have been some nasty reviews of the Pullman Red Bento which are largely unfounded or irreverent. This is the best spot in town for Asian cuisine, particularly during lunch (their daily specials from 11-3 are simply unmatched in town). Having grown up in Seattle, I've had my fair share of teriyaki and sushi, and though Red Bento's teriyaki and sushi are not the best to ever hit my plate, by Seattle standards of Asian food this restaurant turns out mid-range quality sushi/teriyaki, and the price point they deliver it at is ROCK BOTTOM. There is nowhere I've been for Asian food in at least 10 years that has offered a teriyaki chicken lunch special at $4.99. Red bento delivers at this, and it's a full sized, quality plate, with salad (complete with delicious asian salad dressing, not ranch). They also have a california roll special for under $3 for the full roll. Unbelievable. For the good quality (better than any other Asian joint in Pullman, but not fine dining) and the outrageously low price, if you're in the area and looking for Asian food, I would look no further than Red Bento. read more

I usually love red bento- tastes good, alright options, and the prices are descent. I am a vegetarian however so my food choices are more selective. I always go for the veggi yakisoba noodles which are pretty good. However tonight I tried to get take out, and over half way through my meal I chewed something funny so I spat it out- it was beef. This may not be a big deal to some but when it says something is vegetarian friendly I assume that there is no meat in it, but maybe that is just me. What if I had an allergic to it? Pullman is not a foodie town. Let's be honest. Red Bento in Pullman is: dirty, rife with slow service, inconsistent with cooking, and not living up to its promise. I used to live in Japan: fried sushi was not a thing. I can no longer count how many times I've ordered teriyaki and bit into a few pieces that tasted like lifeless rubber because it sat in marinade too long. I've had service that behaved like it was too busy to bother with me and it was a slow night. Or how about specifically asking for no spice on phad thai because a person in our party couldn't eat it, only to get a 4 star monster. Nope. Done. Be careful when ordering takeout from here. I've been ordering the same bento box from here for the past 3 years and I always get the edamame replaced with 2 additional gyoza. Today when I placed the order over the phone they said that was fine. When I went to pick it up and pay for it though, they told me that they could not sub the edamame for gyoza and that if they did it would just be one. That would have been fine except that instead of saying any of this over the phone when I placed the order they just added a whole order of gyoza(without my permission/me asking for that) resulting in me paying for something I did not order and didn't not want to pay for. I ordered Chicken Katsu over the phone for a pick up and the young woman who answered the phone was very polite and courteous, she answered all of my questions and didn't seemed rushed like some restaurants when you call them. The Food was delicious! It was a huge helping, and it was made very well. If I had to say anything negative about the experience it was that there was a little too much Katsu sauce, but it was hardly worth mentioning. THIS PLACE IS NOT CLEAN AND ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. After the picture of the beetle in someone's food, I was a bit skeptical about this place but decided it was an isolated thing and I'd still try it out. I took a girl on a date here, and at first everything was fine. Halfway through the meal I found a very long black hair in my food, which caused both of us to lose our appetite, but we both kept nibbling on her meal. After awhile my date took a bite of rice, only to end up with an equally long scraggly white hair in her mouth. The fact that both of our meals had hair in them means they are doing something fundamentally wrong in that kitchen and it was pretty sickening for my date. When we brought it up to our waitress she took our bills and cards and was gone for about 10 minutes. When she finally came back she gave us our cards back, thanked us for coming in, and said "sorry about the hair!" Sorry isn't good enough for a health code violation and completely ruining our meals. I will never go back to Bento. Seriously, go to Tokyo Seoul instead. read more

I went to this restaurant at noon which is peak hour. It took me more than 5 minutes to be seated. No greeting or welcome at all. Waiters and waitresses would pretend they did not see you until a middle age woman took you to your seat. It would take another 5-10 minutes to have your water and miso soup ready. Another 10 minutes later, someone would come to you and help you to order what you wanna eat. After you ordered, you will have to wait at least half an hour to see your food. During the waiting period, I found this restaurant has wifi network with a password, I tried to obtain the password from a waitress, the waitress told me the wifi network is not prepared for customers. I ordered a Japanese style bento, I found what waitress said is different from the menu. The menu shows that a bento comes with two free side entrees, however waitress told me they only provide one free side entree, which is teriyaki chicken. For the second entree, customers have to pay for it. I paid another $4 for the second entree. After half an hour waiting, I saw my bento, if I did not order the second entree, it will only contains rice, teriyaki chicken and a few soybean. The soybean has no taste at all. And the most horrible part is the teriyaki chicken is serious overcooked, it looks black and taste as hard as plastic. I told the waitress the chicken was overcooked, she said she can reorder me a new one, but I refused because I do not want wait another half an hour. My girl friend ordered a udon, the noodle was overcooked too. It tastes super soft and the noodle soup also tastes bad. During the peak hour, Customers have to go the cashier desk to pay by themselves. Sometimes, more than ten people stuck in front of the the desk and wait until the cashier shows up. There are many flies in this restaurant, which is very annoyed. All in all, I strongly recommend people avoid the Pullman Red Bento. I went the Moscow Red Bento before, I had much better experience there than the Pullman branch. read more

Never in my life have I experienced such horrible service! I went to lunch with a friend and it took us an entire hour to get our food. We also didn't get our food at the same time, my chicken katsu was entirely cold by the time it reached the table, and I never received part of my order. Our waitress never once checked up on us after we got our food, and our drinks were never refilled. Worst of all, no one apologized for the long wait or for messing up our order. I had checked out the Red Bento in Pullman through Yelp hours before going there with my wife to celebrate my birthday yesterday. I was surprised to find only relatively negative reviews. I called to make a dinner reservation anyway. I was told there was a new menu adding many Chinese dishes that began that day. We arrived at 6:15 and was seated at a booth within minutes of our arrival. It was starting to get busy as we checked out the extensive menu of sushi, Japanese, Korean and now Chinese dishes. I settled for my usual Chicken Teriyaki dinner with the Red Bento special fried rice. My wife who is more familiar with asian cuisine ordered Udon soup with tempura shrimp. We had our orders in ~15 minutes. Our server, Jessica, was the manager and she informed us that the restaurant had opened last summer and had some rough spots in getting the operation to run smoothly, they were now much better at meeting customers' expectations. Our food was delicious, hot and servings were generous. I mentioned that it was my birthday and Jessica provided a mango moichi dessert at no charge. The only suggestions I have to improve my experience is that the music at times was played loud and with a fast tempo, not conducive to conversation and a bit distracting. The music would be low or off and suddenly a song would start that was a bit jarring at times. It was also a bit cold for me although we were sitting 2/3 of the way into the seating area in a booth. Just a few degrees warmer would have been nice. But overall, it was a very pleasant experience and we are already planning our next meal there soon, maybe with our neighbors who like to go out once a month. read more

Whenever I went to this restaurant, I had stomach problems. I've never had this problem with other restaurants in Pullman. At first, I thought it could be my body/heath problem, but my friend also had stomach aches when we went to there together and today is third time that I have stomach ache. I guess they're using bad meat for cooking because I was okay when I ate a veggie dish here. The waiters or waitresses also looked unorganized. They interrupted my eating too many times to ask if food is okay or to take out empty dishes even though I didn't finish eating.
