Diane, the owner is amazing! This was my first time at the salon and I was very excited. I came in with long hair, mid back length and asked for an inverted long bob. I figured cutting off at least 5" in the back. Unfortunately, the gal that originally cut it didn't quite understand what I was asking for and cut it way too short, at least 7" and it looked like a regular bob, which is not what I wanted. I waited and spoke with Diane, the owner. I was a mix of sad and angry. Not to mention, on the verge of tears. She listened to me. Her suggestions and comments were very calming and soothing. She put my mind at ease and said she had some ideas. I waited till she was done with her current clients and calmly sat down in her chair. She cut another inch or so off the back and blended it to give a great style. Granted it is much shorter than I ever wanted but it looks great and the hair will grow back. I went to red bird to get a grey cover up and trim for the first time and it was a totally relaxing and comfortable experience, so I decided to go back for a balayage after 6 weeks. The scheduling was very reasonable given the time frame and I was SO IMPRESSED by the results. I have very dark hair and Whitney was able to bring out the perfect caramel pops in a natural way. It's not often I have ever walked into a salon and actually had the desire to go back. However Red Bird has changed that for me. I can't wait to go back. Diane actually listened to my desires and was confident in her skills to follow through. The coziness of her shop makes you want to spend all day there. I'm a busy mom and I was done with a consult, head massage with cinnamon essential oil, hair wash with a warm towel against the back of my neck... (Could have fallen asleep!) And haircut in 45 min. Finally... I was fully prepared to get the usual lecture for home coloring my hair... Not only did she Not criticize me for it, she said it looked Fabulous! Was she telling me a story... Super disappointed. I am new to the area and was excited to try this salon since it had so many good reviews. The first sign it wasn't going to go well is that I was the only client there for most of the time on a Saturday and ended up being there for close to 4 hours with no reason to be. I got there 5 minutes prior to my appointment and was told the stylist was just finishing up, I assumed with another client but when she finally called me back (calling me by the wrong name) 20 minutes after the start of my appointment I was surprised to see no other clients. They also made it a point to tell me the owner was at a hair show in Las Vegas multiple times, at both the appointment and including in a follow-up voicemail I received today and in a live conversation on the phone. I'm not sure why I needed to know this except it does help explain the subpar experience I had. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and told her I was trying to go lighter for the summer. I don't have damaged hair or do a lot of crazy colors and the base color on the picture is close to my natural color. I've had the look in the picture in the past so I know it wasn't something unreachable. She did all over color and a few highlights and left the color on way longer than I have ever had color on at any salon, close to 2 hours. It's extremely dark and the highlights do not go. The second sign this wasn't going well is when she took the foil from the few highlights she did out of my hair and said they have a guarantee if I don't like it to come back within 7 days. I felt like they have one shade of highlights...bleach. The highlights do not start at the roots and do not go to the bottom of my hair. They are very random streak in the top layer and the bottom of my hair is very, very dark. She also cut my hair. Thank goodness she didn't cut much off because she didn't seem to know how to cut my layers. Although it doesn't look like I even had it cut and I paid money. During the haircut she focused more on trying to sell the products instead of on my cut. Two days after I had my hair done there was still color coming out in the shower. I've never experienced this from any salon color. Fast forward to today. While I appreciate they took the effort to call to check in I am surprised at the response I received when I told them I was not happy with the color. The receptionist told me again the owner had been in Las Vegas during my appointment but asked if I would like to see her this week for a correction. When I said sure she offered an appointment over two weeks out. When I told her that wasn't this week her response was that the owner had 7+ years of experience and because of this is really busy and fully booked...why offer to fix my hair same week if she can't fit me in? She also recommended for the time being I should just really try to scrub it out when I was my hair...Anyways, I was told she would look into what options they have and I would hear back. I was under the impression I would get a call back today. That conversation was over 7 hours ago and they are now closed. I would not recommend this salon. While they are friendly, the experience was far from professional, the stylist are very young and inexperienced and now I have horrible hair color a week before a big military ball. I'm sure they would like me to come back in and get it fixed, but I don't want to endure the hour and 15 again. I have had a difficult time finding a stylist that i genuinely trust. So I went out of my comfort zone and tried red bird salon, they called me the same day and I had an appointment later on that afternoon. My hair dresser was Maggie, and she did a MARVELOUS job on my hair. She listened and was attentive to what I wanted. She took her time and I could not be any happier with the outcome of my hair. I go through spurts where I want long and short hair, so I went from having really long hair to shoulder length. She went over ways to style my newly short hair. And we went over length according to army regulations and how to pull it back. I would come back in the future. Despite my last review of them never keeping an appointment time I made another appointment. It was scheduled for 6pm and at 4:05 I got a call canceling my appointment! LITERALLY 2 hours before my appointment. And they were just gonna keep it at that. I was not having it. They ended up fitting us in with someone else at 6:30 and at 5:45 called asking if we could come at 6 instead. The cut was fine, it was for my 4 year old. But I won't be giving them a 3rd try. Wow this was the best service from a salon I have EVER had. I've been to a handful of high end salons and this one topped all of them. The atmosphere is cozy and calming. My stylist Sara, was extremely professional and easy to talk to! They have very reasonable pricing and offer quite a lot of complimentary services. I had a paragon dip done for free because I was getting color done. I also had a haircut that was done exactly how I asked. They gave me this really sweet first time client gift too! I almost didn't try this salon because of some of the reviews. I'm so glad I gave this salon a chance! The salon itself is unique and clean. The services were affordable. But the real gem was my stylist, Whitney. She was friendly, professional and made the whole experience phenomenal. She talked about products (like almost all salons) but didn't push them on me. She listened to my ideas for the haircut and offered ideas about what would look best. Then she walked me through how to style the cut and explained what she was doing to style it, which was so helpful. I ended up getting a fantastic cut and got my eyebrows done. My only critique was I wish they used something after the eyebrow waxing to get left over wax off. I didn't really notice until later that day so I didn't ask if they had anything besides aloe. They also include little extra things to make you feel pampered: scalp massage with essential oils; gift bag and 20% off for first time client. I was nervous to go to a new salon after relocating to Clarksville. However, I found Red Bird Salon on Yelp and thought to give it a try. My experiences (I have returned many times) have been wonderful! The owner, Diane, somehow remembers everyone. The stylists are really great, in both skill and personality. I have had cuts, colors, and even have taken my two girls to get their hair cut there as well. I even invited my sister (who lives overseas) to enjoy their services while she visited, and she now wants to go there each time she visits. This is going to be long.. I had a military ball to attend, and had a particular hairstyle I wanted done in mind, so I decided to check yelp. I wanted somewhere that seemed moderately expensive, with good reviews. I came to a few spots, but decided on this one. I messaged the salon on here asking if they can do vintage waves and that I need to be done by 430, so I can come in any time to get me out by then. They told me 2:45PM, so I was there at 2:40. The salon is really pretty inside. The waiting room is separate from the stylists, which I liked. The salon is beautiful. My stylist, Ashlyn, was extremely friendly, and sweet. She sat me down and showed me the waves she was working on, and I told her the waves were nice, but not "vintage waves." I pulled up a few pictures and showed her what that was. She sounded confident. Washed my hair, used products that sounded ideal for my hair, and then sat me down to work. She tried, but couldn't get my hair to do what I wanted. She got her manager, the owner, to intervene, and it still wasn't working. So we went with a side swept look, as a plan B. It was cute, but I wasn't happy. At this point, it was 5PM, I needed to leave, and I was over it. They were extremely kind and friendly, the salon is adorable, and only charged me $40, which is why I gave the 3 stars. I heard vintage waves are difficult to do, so I would have preferred someone more experienced in them, or honesty from the start. I watched a YouTube video and was able to do a better job on my own the next day. Would I come here again? Probably not. I've seen color treatments they've done on other clients and those looked really good, so maybe that's more their thing.. read more

I have been going to see Ashlyn the past few months and LOVE her and Red Bird! Everyone is super nice and makes me feel right at home when I get there. I keep Ashlyn on her toes! Every time I go in for my appointment I am changing my color or my cut and she is always excited to try something new! I really like that she takes the time to go over colors with me and what would and would not work but always explains the "science" behind it! One of my favorite things to do while I am there is to get the paraffin hand dip! When I get a color and we go to rinse I take my dip and relax while she wash's my hair. I don't trust very many people with my hair and have been avoiding going to a salon for about 3 years since we moved here from across the country. The salon itself is tucked away behind Papa Murpheys. I got my hair cut/layered and am very happy with the results. They really listen to what you want and take your hair qualities (texture, thickness, wavy...etc.) into consideration when they are talking to you about what you want done. Worst experience ever. Stylist ended up doing exactly the opposite of what we had discussed. I was there for 3 1/2 hours, which I have never experienced in my life and have been having my hair highlighted for over 20 years. I went in for basic highlights and came out with Mousy brown hair and still had awful roots. It was a very costly waste of my time. **** I'm not sure what was articulated to you about our "consultation" but I made it very clear that I still wanted to be bright blonde as I have been for years. I never once asked for low lights or to walk out of the salon with brownish, stripey "highlights" and STILL horrible roots. It wasn't just a miscommunication issue it was plain inexperience. I also made it clear to you on the phone that I appreciated your suggestion for me to come back and attempt to fix what had been done to my hair, however, I was leaving to go out of town and also coming back to have someone work on my hair that was already over processed didn't make me feel comfortable at all. When I was able to have my hair fixed it took two professionals collaborating to try to figure out how to undo some of what had already been done and then bring me back to blonde without frying my hair. They were speechless when I walked in the salon and had no idea how I could have walked out with my hair looking that way without someone speaking up and saying anything to me. When I was checking out at the front desk The lady working could tell that I was visibly unhappy and asked me how I felt about my hair and I told her that honestly I was not happy at all and then it looked horrible and not at all like I had explained that I wanted. That would've been the perfect opportunity for her to have let me speak to you. I never even knew a manager/owner was present in the salon while I was there. I had told the stylist I was unhappy. I told the front desk I was unhappy. And all I was told was "Aw, I'm sorry." Just unacceptable. read more
