There is a camera section, a grocery store in back stocked not only with a lot of food items, but also with items you'd find at a pharmacy in case you need those too - think sunblock, nasal spray, etc. They have warm foods like hotdogs, sandwiches, burgers, bbq and other items you could purchase for a quick lunch or dinner if you wanna grab and go. They also had cereal boxes, chips, trail mix, and actual foods to stock up if you're camping or need boxed dried goods as well as some cold and frozen items. It's a real mini grocery store. For sure. This visitor center has all of the things that make a visitor center great: a large parking lot,…read morebathrooms, exhibits, helpful people, and a gift shop. It's also quite large, perfect for the hordes of guests during the busy season. The layout is literally perfect. As you enter, you see the washrooms marked to your left. It's perfectly out of the way if people have to queue, and doesn't disrupt the flow of the other parts of the building. Straight ahead is the NPS ranger desk, which has excellent sight lines from the entrance. You're not going to be confused where to ask for help! The rangers were super helpful with my night sky viewing questions. There is a large gift shop to the right, and then to the left are the exhibits. The gift shop has an extended selection of things to buy, probably due to its large size. It has the usual offerings of NPS items plus clothing, etc. The exhibits focus a lot on the geology of the area (which makes sense, people visit for the hoodoos!), but also on the ecosystem and the native Americans who live here. The prices were crazy for the portion sizes! They have a cookie ice cream sandwich option for around $2.69. You're able to choose your own two cookies and whatever ice cream. I had bear claw ice cream with two peanut butter cookies. The ice cream was so chocolatey and the cookies were perfectly soft and even had some peanut chunks. Would recommend!

So we pulled a U-turn to come back & check it out. I'm so glad we did. What a gem! Pun intended! This cute lil store has everything - crystals, earrings, bracelets, rings, figurines, sculptures, glassware, trinkets, donuts, fun-flavored lattes, goats, a resident kitty named Callie who will make you fall in love with her... The women running the shop were so kind. They fueled us up with coffee (delicious iced lattes - who knew?!) & answered all of our questions about gems, jewelry, ring sizes, Callie the cat, etc. & were so gracious. The prices were so reasonable, too. I purchased two gorgeous sterling silver rings with malachite stones in them for a whopping total of $50. My only regret is not having enough space to buy more trinkets. We were on motorcycles with very limited bag space. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY. Unlike the other place, staff said hello to us as soon as we came in and were friendly at check out--though it would have been nice if they had asked us if we needed help finding anything as that would have made our visit a bit more efficient. Mom wanted a t-shirt to commemorate the trip to Utah as well as a hat for my dad that reminded everyone of where his wife went without him and she was able to find both here at prices that weren't too shabby.
