Record stores are my kryptonite. Whether in Vancouver or in another city, I always find comfort in visting a record store. Often it's just for browsing music, listening to the tastes of their staff, or finding deals or rarities that I want to introduce to the rest of my collection. Red Cat has enough selection to make you immediately want to leave and put more money in the parking meter. I stumbled upon some great finds and was also able to buy the concert tickets I needed from the great selection of upcoming shows. read more

Very cool record shop. In town for 48hr, hitting all the record stores, this is one of the best I hit today!

Our favourite record store in town. Red Cat has a great selection of new and used records, as well as an impressive array of concert tickets, a few record players, some T-shirts, CDs, tapes -- you name it. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and much less intimidating than your usual record store cashier. Unlike most Vancouver record stores, Red Cat's prices are reasonable and consistent, and their used records always play well. Make sure to check out their wall of staff recommendations, and if you can't find the record you're looking for, just ask a staff member -- they're always happy to order in whatever's not in stock. The few times I was there the owners were never overtly rude, they just seemed like they were way more interested in whatever it was they were doing on the computer and that is ok. i noticed that the records are clean and so forth but the selection is rather poor. i say that not to be overly critical but to encourage you guys to start focusing more on quality vinyl. all those records that have been sitting in the rack for years collecting dust should be blitzed out so you can start making room for actual good records. Great local business. I used to live just up the street from it when it was on the other side of Main and was there all the time. Now I make the drive to Mt Pleasant to buy tickets, most recently for the upcoming Drive By Truckers show at the Commodore; less charges than if you buy from Ticketmaster. (yeah, yeah it's a long drive but it's the principle)The record store is a bit of an antiquity these days and the big chain places are deathly Ill but cool shops like this will, hopefully, survive. read more

I will never shop here again. The selection is cute for a place that calls itself a record store, but the customer service is horrible. I purchased an album for $40 and after realizing I picked up the wrong album, because mistakes happen sometimes, I was offered me $24 for it. I had an album I would have selected instead, and would have been happy to take a loss, but not a $16 loss on an album I purchased less than 24 hours ago. Remember this for your Christmas shopping, if you buy something for your loved one, and they open and listen to the album and realize that it's not exactly what they wanted (because it's Christmas and mistakes happen), they'll end up losing almost 50% of the value and won't be able to exchange it for the album they actually wanted. read more

Fantastic shop for used and new records. Incredible prices- less than you will find elsewhere on Main St- and genuine, friendly staff. Zero pretension, great vinyl. New stock daily- worth a stop every time you walk by. Never hesitate to ask for help/recommendations/special orders! The team is awesome!!! read more

Great selection, friendly staff, and fantastic customer service. I bought a bunch of records from Red Cat and unfortunately one had a bad track that skipped repeatedly. I couldn't find my receipt, but I brought it back in and they exchanged it, even opening a new copy so we could check to see if it had the same issue on their turntable before I left. I won't hesitate to go back to Red Cat and will definitely recommend them to anyone! read more

RedCat has been a go to for me for the last 8 yrs. Though its hard to believe that I've been collecting for 30 yrs, whenever I need a place to get rid of some vinyl I've found in my experience that redCat is the most fair purchasers of used vinyl in town. The Staff have seemed to be long term people who aren't in your face but knowledgeable and willing to help and work with you right away. They'll order what you need if they don't have it. Look up what you are looking for on the spot and have a great variety of music in they're stacks. Mostly new vinyl will be found there. They chose well from my stack and the other sellers of used so they have a moderate but stacked New Arrival section whenever I enter. Its never too big and it rotates well. The staff are numerous and knowledgeable about obscure and interesting music. There may be larger used stacks in Vancouver, but I find RedCat has the good balance of all aspects. The have good listening stations and a nice flow to the room. I'm thankful for developing a relationship with sucha great store. it's taken some time but a mutual respect is apparent and I enjoy going there. Whether for selling or asking for an odd title. You can garranteed a fair price either way and a good experience. read more

Red Cat is by far and beyond the coolest record store ever. The in store selection is fantastic and the staff are top drawer. They are more than helpful when it comes to hunting down a long lost gem and are happy to research and score any special request that your heart desires. Last year a low lifer robbed a 100 plus disc Grateful Dead collection of mine. They couldn't help me get the Boots back but they have helped me find most of the official releases. And yes; I send my friends there ! read more

So I went online to buy tickets for Titus Andronicus. The tickets were $16 bucks and the service charge was $6 bucks a ticket! I thought about how the band is driving across North America from New York With another band and their charging $16.00 and ticket web is getting $6. Bullshit I thought. So I called around and Red Cat said they had tickets. I live in Nvan but I felt very strongly about being exploited out of $25.60 in service charges especially when the band I was going to see has an album called Local Business and I'm sure they don't support these bastards. So in the interest of community and principle I drove over the bridge to main, had a slice of pizza at Uncle Fatehs [review later] and ended up at Red Cat Just as they Locked the door and were leaving!!!! I explained my situation, begged her to open back up and sell me 4 tickets. The lovely young lady I encountered didn't look thrilled but she obliged and opened the place back up and sold me the tickets!! Thank you so much, wish I had time to look around your shop as I know its lovely from past visits . Buy your tickets from local record shops, its saves money and its just the right thing to do!!! read more

Though I have to ride 15 minutes to get there, and I have closer record stores to my house, Red Cat on Main is my go to record store. For a smaller store it has an amazing selection of old and new with very reasonable prices. I never leave without at least one new record in my bag. Friendly staff as well. read more

I ordered 2 cd's and it has been more than 3 months and still no delivery date or phone call in regards to when my order will arrive at their store. doesn't sound look like business practices or customer service to me. Ended up ordering the same product off amazon which arrived at my doorstep within 2 weeks of placing the order online. Will not be coming back to this store again. read more

i used to live about three blocks from red cat and spent a lot of time and money there. awesome, old school independent little record store with loads of local stuff and cool, laid back staff(buddy r.i.p.) this is the kind of record store you can go to with no intentions whatsoever and just browse through their stuff until something jumps out and changes your purchasing plans, lots of used vinyl, bought my three favourite beatles albums on vinyl there for a very reasonable price, well worth stopping in if you're a music guy or girl; the complete opposite of HMV... read more

Best record store. Dave and the other staff are friendly and helpful. They have a great selection and their used and collectors vinyl is always in amazing shape and well priced. They also have an amazing selection of new vinyl. read more
