I visited from Bellingham, WA with my family and picked up a few albums, including what I thought was Creedence Clearwater Revival - Pendulum. When I got home, I discovered another Creedence record was inside. I reached out to the store by email, and their team couldn't have been more helpful -- they quickly found the correct album and mailed it to me free of charge. That kind of service is what I look for and it shows how much they care about their customers and the music community. Beyond that, the store itself is fantastic -- a deep and diverse selection, friendly staff, and a great vibe that makes you want to spend hours flipping through the bins. If you love music, Beat Street is absolutely worth a visit. I'll definitely be stopping by again next time I'm in Vancouver!

If you have time and patience to hunt through the bargain bins you will no doubt find something to appease. And really, for a dollar, you can't go wrong with whatever you pick up. I was going to let it go, but a friend has told me of a similar experience at Zulu Records a couple of days ago, and so I decided to come forward here. I had inquired about going upstairs to browse through the discounted records, and was told that there was probably "nothing for me" in that section (whatever the heck that meant...I can draw some conclusions) even though he had no idea of what I would be looking for. Keep in mind this isn't the first I've heard of this. I won't be going back to this store. I suggest visiting the Main Street (Neptune and RedCat Records) and downtown vintage record stores (BeatStreet) instead. The ironically named "Zulu" may have a decent collection of LP's but the service from management is ghastly.

A gem of a place, with a super knowledgeable and friendly proprietor. He certainly knows his vintage punk, and had a few punk offerings of that ilk in the store. Heck, he knows Joey Shithead, as well as members of the Dishrags! Not really a store for new records as it is a used record shop, but everything is in great shape. If you walk up to the front doors and still think you have made a mistake as the doors are locked and you need to buzz in.... just walk down the few stairs and go in the lower door on the left. You're still nailing it. Good for you! Located in the basement mall, it's the coolest little place. Great vinyl selection, reasonable prices, and solid quality. I was disappointed by the items on display though as I could not find any of the records I was looking for. After collecting records for almost 50 year, I have become very selective :-) A lot of their vinyl are in the cabinates and "in-the-back". Although the location of this particular shoppe is not convenient for me, I dropped in as I was in the neighborhood. It is seldom that I get this far east of Vancouver and seized the opportunity. The people who run the store were friendly and gracious in that they allowed be to rummage through the "not yet cataloged", newly acquired items, Thankfully I did manage to find 3 items of interest, original pressings of "Small Faces", "Deep Purple", and one other. Although I considered these items expensive, I believe that I paid what they were worth. Like everyone else, I like to get a better deal. They were kind enough to play the Small Faces on their system, it was a little beat up and I needed to verify it's value. However, their sound system was ... amm .... er .... gee ... really bad. The speakers seam to be located at the back of the store and it sounded like the music was being played in a tunnel. A lot of bass was heard, that's about it. All I could determine was that the record did not skip :-( A shame, really, as they have spent a fair amount on the reset of the shop. The quality of the sound needs to be improved. It doesn't cost much to put some quality speakers throughout a store. Would I come back??? Purely on speculation? No, it is a long way to go! I would come back if they would be willing to work with me and put aside the items I am interested in. Well, I have heard about this place and that they sell records and CDs and etc. I have never went inside. I decided to go in and see for myself. Outside looks like one of those old ghetto shops on Commercial Drive that looks like they have been here forever. Yeah maybe they have been here forever. I mean at least 20 years. Or even more. Inside was very well organized and bright. They have some pretty cool records for sale. Unfortunately, I am not one of those music advocate/ artist. I mean I do understand the music quality is better on records. To me I would not care much if I listened music on a CD or radio or ipad or ipod vs the highend record player. They have pretty good stuff here.

Both in VG+ condition, so, good prices as both of these records would have been more in Seattle even in USD. Staff was friendly and helpful and the store was organized pretty well. So, it appears to be time for another update…read more I spent about 90 minutes in the shop rummaging through 100s of LPs sitting on the floor. It looked like what was left from a lot of titles which probably cost the store owner very little. As I continued searching (for anything of value) I did manage to locate 3 records of interest; a John Lennon, a Leonard Cohen, and another one whose name escapes me, now a couple of months after the fact. The records were interspersed between 100s of titles which were essentially worthless. The 3 items of interest were dirty and in need of a good cleaning. When I showed these items to the owner he said, "I didn't even know I had these". "How much for these please?" I replied. To my surprise Nick priced each record according to the median on Discogs. After 90 minutes of searching, for 3 dirty items he didn't even know he had?! Needless to say, I really expected to get some sort of deal. I left empty handed and unhappy. I seams that this store is more interested in making money than they are in keeping loyal customers. There are other, better places to purchase records in the Vancouver area. Great to see a store like this open in The Heights!…read more Mostly factory sealed vinyl in the genres of: Punk, Hardcore, Indie/College, Metal, Rock, Hip Hop. Has a small but growing section of used records as well. Store also carries Stereo Equipment and a wicked supply of mounted Show Posters. The guy running the place is super helpful, I've been in twice and both times a superior experience. I enjoyed the music related conversations we've had, was helpful when I need to return a damaged record and remembered who I was, so that's a bonus. Also, they have a loyalty/reward card as well.
