My girlfriend and I did our first red door experience at Emeryville - Survive. Having done multiple rooms with the red door at San Mateo, we came with high expectations. Boy, was this a let down. First of all, the game started 15 minutes after we arrived (8:10, started around 8:30), we were told to just wait outside without any explanation on what we are waiting for or how long we would have to wait for. Second of all, the game master couldn't be less engaged with introducing us to the room. It's the equivalent of just telling us to "escape" the room. There's no story, no background on the room, it's just escape... Lastly (not sure if the person came to get us is the same game master), the game master that greeted us after we finished were also less than enthusiastic when showing us the puzzles we "skipped" because of the supposedly linear non-linear puzzles. Without going into details, 2 of the puzzle are completed without going in the correct order, which made some of the clues red herrings. Not the same caliber as other red rooms we have attended, pretty boring to be honest. read more

Happy to see that Red Door has a location in Emeryville as I've only been to the one in Concord. Our group of 12 and was split up into two groups for Declassified and Survived. Mostly great rooms here, the only one we were disappointed in was the Enchanted Room since it is a smaller version of the Red Door Escape room of "Once Upon a Time". Other interesting room was the lost treasures which is built to be more like a video game rather than an escape room. My very first escape room and I gonna be honest, I kind of sucked. LOL! My daughter and I went here and we did the relic. With unlimited cues again . However, the staff were awesome. Jazlyn was amazing with her kind words of encouragement. Will def come back with my son and try the other rooms. It is a good exercise for team building! Game: The Relic 3/5 Game Master: 3/5 Staff 4/5 This is our 3rd Red Door location. We have completed all the 60-minute games at San Mateo and 1 game called Survive in Vegas. Las Vegas's Red Door also had 1 room only games just like the Emeryville location. Even though it was 1 room, it was still an amazing game and really fun room. Check in and booking on the website was easy. When I called the previous day on the phone, the staff was also very helpful by phone. You can buy 20% vouchers for next time after your game. We decided to attempt their hardest room here with the 2 of us, The Relic. We gathered ourselves for about 17 minutes and solved a few things before we asked for our first hint. We got really stuck on one very meticulous puzzle and could not move on but the game master did not notice that we didn't solve it yet and when we press the button 3 more times after, he continued to give us the next hints as if we solved the initial one. This set us back 15 minutes because there were items we needed earlier that we couldn't acquire from the puzzle we were stuck on. The two lanterns provided were flickering in and out or not bright enough to see the number locks well. On a different puzzle, it also took 2 tries to have our game master understand where we were in the puzzle solving. We did end up escaping because once we actually got the hints that we needed, we solved everything quickly after with a few more hints. Not the best designed room, I can't recommend it. It ruined our experience when 1/3 of the game we were stuck because the game master was either handling multiple rooms or not paying attention to what we were asking. read more

Came here on opening week. Our family loves escape rooms and have completed many throughout the Bay Area. This is our first time with the Red Door company. First, check in was curt and not friendly. What's more, we had a coupon for 20% off since we were scheduling same day, and they refused to honor it. Before our game began, we were asked if we wanted hints. We replied that we might, but would let them know by hitting the button. However, we were given clues at every turn. It was hard to ignore the clues as they popped up with a bell on the screen. The game itself (we played Enchantment) had some interesting puzzles, and the room was decorated nicely. But we found that most of the puzzles were not intuitive and some were quite confusing. It's over $150 for a family of 4, so the game isn't cheap for all these hiccups. I think we'd wait until they offer a real coupon and honor it before trying this company again. read more

Zee was amazing, helped me booked my nephews bday adventure to end his special day with a mystery. Zee was super friendly, great customer service, explained everything thoroughly and even though we didn't solve the mystery we booked another adventure because of the great experience we had with both staff- Zee and the facility. Things that would've helped improved our experience would've been a better working lock as the letter lock was stuck even after inputting the correct letter combo snake. We were told "do not use excessive force" in the directions and it turned out after 20 additional minutes trying different alternative codes asked for a clue and found out we had the correct code but "didn't pull hard enough" to unlock it. Also Better ventilation as it was hot in the escape room and better lighting, it was pretty dark and we had to take out our phones and use our flashlights read more

First time experiencing an escape room and having the team makes all the difference. I went with coworkers for team building, and we were split into 3 groups of 3-4 people per room. I think that is the right amount of people to work on the puzzles and clues because the spaces were kinda small but full of things to decipher and put together. We ended up escaping with 36 seconds left on the clock. It was really challenging and I definitely would try another room in the future. read more

We generally love Red Door Escape rooms. We've completed almost all of the Bay Area/Sacramento locations games (except for Emeryville), along with a handful in other states. This was somewhat disappointing. Rev, our game master, was doing his best as the only employee covering multiple games, and he was a lot of fun, but the room itself was a let down. There were multiple elements in The Relic that were not properly maintained: the lantern was a bit dim and finicky, one puzzle was opened when we entered (apparently a loose element, which was a known issue), and two elements that required use of specific senses were not maintained (I'm being deliberately vague, so I don't ruin the puzzle for someone else, but we were told one would be refreshed and the other was due to other game players messing around with things). I understand this can be a lot to maintain, but careful maintenance of puzzle elements and a good reset are crucial when their accuracy is necessary for the completion of a room. Whether we won or lost is up for debate as we did correctly analyze some items - but they were incorrectly labeled, which led to us not finding the right solution in time. That was such a let down. These are the sorts of errors we would expect on the first week or two of a new room, not a year into a new location. (It would also have been fun to have this puzzle expand into additional rooms, not nooks, but I imagine the building just doesn't have enough space.) The experience overall was kind of a bummer, since we love Red Door Escape Rooms in general and were so excited at the prospect of new stories to play. read more

Tara was extremely helpful, kind, and welcoming from the moment we arrived, taking the time to explain everything clearly and making sure our group felt comfortable and excited for the game. Had an absolute blast. Reserved 2 rooms (bc 8 total kids + 2 chaperones) for my daughter's 10th birthday. I think for all of the kids, this was their first room. Reserving was very easy, I could sign waivers for the minors all in one go (thank goodness), and very clean and well done. Tasteful hints that were appropriate level for these 4th graders. We did Enchanted and Lost Treasure, both were a great level, good clues, good interest, and the birthday kid is still raving about how fun it was. Parking at Bay street is easy in teh garage. I honestly really love Red Door Escape. The other locations escape rooms were really good. I didn't want to write this review but I feel like it's something that should be mentioned. We just finished the Lost Treasure escape room. It said it was a good room for gamers so I scheduled it for me and my siblings. It had a minimum of 3 players which was different so I thought there would be a lot more puzzle/interactive work. The "escape" room was more of an arcade game rather than an escape room. There wasn't any physical puzzles really. Only hitting a few buttons. One person basically had to sit and drive the whole time. There wasn't any physical puzzles, placing, throwing, or interacting with physical items for the whole room. It definitely wasn't worth the $120. I wouldn't recommend the Lost Treasure room. From what I heard the other rooms aren't as great either. I would highly recommend going to the Concord or San Mateo Red Door Escape Rooms instead. read more

I've done many escape rooms and completed all the Rooms in their Concord location. I loved the room itself and how detailed it was, I did have a poor experience with my room host. Me and my partner made it very clear we wanted no clues/hints. Throughout our whole game we were given 15+ hint not allowing us to experience the room and figure it out on our own. We were given all the answers to the locations of the codes/keys which ruined the escape effect. Although we had a poor experience at this location we will be giving it another go in hopes we have a different host! read more

I have done dozens of escape rooms in many different locations--I know what makes a good escape room. This review is for the Survive room. There should be a warning for loud, sudden noises, and that the room is very dimly lit throughout the entire experience. Adults with sensory issues will have difficulties with this room. Additionally, it is a pretty poor room in terms of its puzzles. It is only challenging because it is very dim and has only one flashlight provided to the team. There is a unique twist where you must be on the quieter side or trip a pause in the game. You are in one room, no additional rooms appear. For the price, it is not worth it. We also did Prison Break at this site which was better, but there are many more escape rooms in the bay area that are superior. I would never recommend the Survive room to anyone, but this place is good for beginners or kids. read more
