I prefer to call it by its past moniker: "Olympia". This review will be written in indirect Greek…read more First, a history lesson. This park used to be a quarry until it was filled with water. It was also a recreation center at one point, closing down possibly in the seventies. As teens, we believed an urban myth that the Philly rock station WMMR sponsored a concert here, and the attendees went crazy, trashing Olympia in the process. What really happened is that WYSP, a different rock station, held a "Ramblin' Raft Race Riot" in the early eighties. (You can see how the word "riot" incites some people.) Anyway, it ended up being privately owned, but that did not faze us from entering its abandoned grounds. So, now Burlington County owns this park. I am glad it has been protected from possible condos, but I am not so sure if the county is going to improve this park like they have promised. All I can say is that when this park went public, it lost some of its spirit due to cars on walking paths and humans that think that nature embraces empty forties. Parking is just off of 130. You can walk, fish, swim, boat, and birdwatch here. There are two lakes- one huge one, and a smaller, longish one with mini islands here and there. This smaller lake is bound by Route 130 on one side, but you get used to it. There are paths going around the lakes in a general fashion. In the late eighties the people who lived on the residential road bordering the south end of the lakes used to claim that their street was "private". Feel free to boogie down this street. I don't take kindly to liars who come out in hastily put on robes, ex-cop or not. Paths also go to areas in general woods, and open areas. The rest of the park is bordered by Beverly Rancocas Road, and an industrial park. Go past the industrial park to get to Crystal Lake. Somehow, neither of these manmade entities ruin the atmosphere. Docks could be here and there, depending on their state. Getting down to the water is easy, anyway. You might see remnants of the rec club's past glory. Friends of ours once built a sweat lodge near a set of cement stairs. I used to sit on these stairs and read for hours. This is also where my dog, Daisy, flushed out a rabbit which a barn owl swiftly scooped up. I enjoyed seeing the blue flags coming up every year and eating persimmons right off the tree. Blackberries are biannual and delicious. There should be a giant, cement "compass" still there, serving as a weed garden. You may also see: snakes, turtles, baby turtles, turtle eggs, turtles laying eggs (no crap), snapper shells that you hide until someone else finds it, stuck woodchucks in abandoned wells (no crap- we saved it), egrets, herons, swans, owls, turkeys, an albino goose, weird rocks that seem melted in the orangeish sand area, and many varieties of mushrooms. I never saw the eagles. Watch out for the aforementioned well. It is not deep and it is covered with nature, but someone can still get hurt. And dead animals. I once found two deceased German shepards- together- sometime in the early 2000's. It's a haunting image. It is funny that the police dog training building is right down the street from that depressing scene. You can hit the Rancocas, at the way back, heading south. You will see old, cement structures that once supported creek industry. Daisy almost floated away on a mini iceberg here. I also pet a rabid bat back there. And just watched the creek there, reflecting on life as the sun reflected on the creek. My special haunt is a secret no longer. Glad that some people will come to love it, too.

The guides were nice but in an emergency, which we had where two boats emptied their passengers, it was a little hairy. All in all a great day on the river. Super fun!

Unfortunately, our recent trip with a group of six was extremely frustrating due to the organization and scheduling. Our original time slot was changed because there were not enough groups, which we understood. However, our new 10:20 time slot was expanded to accommodate additional groups, and we were then required to wait an extended period for a very large group that arrived late. As a result, we did not begin rafting until after 12:15, and the safety review had to be rushed because of the delay. Throughout the trip, our group was repeatedly forced to stop and wait for the late group, who frequently fell out of their raft and struggled to follow the safety instructions. I estimate we spent close to an hour collectively waiting along the river. Even the group scheduled after ours eventually passed us, and we did not return to the bus until shortly after 5:00. I want to emphasize that Olivia, Bailey, Kristen, and Sid were excellent guides and did their best under difficult circumstances. My frustration is entirely with the organization and scheduling of the trip. Additionally, while this was outside of anyone's control, we paid for Class II and III rapids, but the river flow that day was approximately 820 CFS, making the experience much closer to Class I and II. I hope you will take this feedback seriously, as this experience was significantly different from the positive experiences that led me to book with White Water Challengers again.

Disappointed and Frustrated with Booking Experience…read more I was really looking forward to celebrating my 21st wedding anniversary with a romantic sunset cruise and was excited to see that Sea Philly had availability on the actual day. I booked through their online system and paid in full -- the money was taken from my account immediately. Unfortunately, I received a phone call shortly after telling me that the date I had booked wasn't actually available, and that the company managing Sea Philly's bookings "messes up all the time." While I understand that mistakes happen, what followed was even more disappointing. I was told a refund had been issued, but five days later, I still hadn't received anything. When I reached out again, I was told by the owner, Georgette Luna, that the refund was now "out of their control" and being processed by the bank. What was supposed to be a special and romantic experience turned into a stressful and frustrating one. I hope others have a smoother experience, but I felt it was important to share what happened. Proceed with caution if you're booking through their current system.

We headed out to Petty Island, which is where we anchored up and watched the sun set over the city. I won't spoil the story of the boat itself, but it truly is one of a kind. Beautiful, wood, old-school/Italian style cruiser. It was very comfortable with plenty of space. I felt safe the entire time. Also a nice feature is that it is BYO. It was a…read morevery straightforward set up - check in and get your life vests, take their shuttle bus to the starting point on the river, get whatever style tube you paid for (we chose tubes with backrests and one cooler tube), and get out on the water! We slowly floated down the river, listened to music on our small portable speaker, swam around, made a short stop along a rocky bank at the edge of the water, and got to the end point after just over 3 hours. We got the shuttle bus back to the Twin Rivers office to drop off the life vests, then went back to our car in the parking deck right across the street. Very simple, and lots of fun!

Unless you are medically unfit, you can do this. Exceptional customer service sums up the team at Jim Thorpe River Adventures (aka LOC). They are extremely well organized which makes for a great trip. Everyone from the moment you enter LOC until the very end was polite, professional and wanted to make sure you have a great time. Some tips to follow: you only need to arrive 15 minutes before your group time, this allows ample time to get situated. Buy their pre-made lunch, it is well worth the 10 bucks, bring extra water on the raft (especially in the summer). Use the bathroom before you get on the bus (and be quick). They give you a dry bucket for your lunch and items, yes you can bring your phone in a dry pouch. Wear a hat and a sun shirt, it is hot and sunny, without much shade. Jump in the water when you have the chance !! If you are a "full figured" person it will be difficult to re-enter the raft, be aware. The trip down river is very safe and well organized. The guides are VERY safety aware ! If you are nervous and listen to them, the team will get you down the river without a hitch ! A few suggestions: don't go on a busy holiday weekend, it can get crowded on the river, the safety briefing takes a long time and you a sitting in the sun (remove your vest and drink water), during July and August I would imagine the water is very low and slow (if it is a dry summer)...best only if you want to have a relaxing rafting trip. I was having trouble starting and bough down and just rough running engine with less than 200 hrs. He did appropriate diagnostic work and when completed the Johnson 115 purrs like a kitten. He also went through my trailer and gave me great fixes which include new bearings for the wheels. He is replacing the impeller on next Monday as well. Very professional and focused upon the task! I recommend him highly for any boat, car, and truck repairs. He brings his shop with him in an inclosed trailer. Call him before you think of someone else!
