You don't need to spend a lot of time here--this isn't a park or museum--but it's a striking visual landmark that rewards a quick visit or drive-by. It's especially photogenic on a blue-sky day, and it definitely adds a cool, modern vibe to this part of Denver. It won't be for everyone--some see it as just a big yellow tower--but if you appreciate public art, architecture, or hidden urban gems, it's worth checking out. Bonus: there's usually not a crowd, so you can enjoy it in peace.

The definition of "Articulation" in the dictionary is: "This describes how sculptural figures (and other forms) are jointed:, either how the differing parts of a body merge in a single form, or how separate sections come together." The top portion of this is very yellow sculpture is visible from I-25. I had it in my list of things to see in Denver. After passing by, we got off the freeway and found it outside of the Denver Design Center. This very wall, located here in Denver, is not an original. Herbert Bayer re-designed this 85 foot tall sculpture. He was commissioned to build his first one in Mexico City for the 1968 Summer Olympics. Too bad I didn't know about this when I went to Mexico City back in March of this year! The one in Mexico City is smaller, standing 60 ft tall. Bayer said he wanted this to be viewed while driving by rather than standing next to it. I did both! The sculpture is constructed of 32 pieces of pre-fabricated concrete elements each measuring 41′ x 5′-2″ x 2′-7″. A refueling mast taken from an aircraft carrier runs through the middle of the wall, holding the sculpture together. Two million pounds of concrete were used to create the 85-foot tall sculpture. This wall was dedicated in 1985. Bayer died the same year at the age of 85. This Articulated Wall belongs to the Denver Art Museum. Here, they have about 8,000 items of Bayer's works. They rotate his works. You can even see a miniature sculpture of this wall there. A nickname for this wall is "Fry Stack". Funny thing is that there was really a French Fry eating contest in front of the sculpture ... for art's sake! So, remember, seeing this while driving past it in your vehicle is the intended way to view this sculpture!

I happily happened upon this year's Highlands Street Fair, held annually on the third Saturday in…read moreJune. 32nd Ave was closed between Perry and Irving to accommodate 4 stages with live music on each, a huge inflatable slide for the kids, a classic car show, beer, margarita and food vendors, and all the quaint shopping you'd expect for the area: cool t-shirts for the alternative/indy pregnant woman, purses made of Brazilian magazines, art, jewelry, hippy clothing, etc etc. And, as you'd expect, SAFER (http://www.safercolorado.org/) had a fairly strong presence. I don't often walk that area, and doing so made me see all the awesome local shops and restaurants that are there! It's certainly worth checking it out next year! Good for all ages fun! The Highlands rock!

A sort of Denver-Dickensonian vision unfurls in my head with the snow falling, and carols are being sung by small children's voices Then I realise my cabbie has been talking to me this whole time. This is a pretty basic sculpture that is part of the University of Colorado-Denver's Art Walk. It…read moreis the work of Maria Cristina Carlini who created the piece some 13 years ago in 2010. There is metered street parking nearby, within a reasonable walking distance. Being that it is located on a college campus there is also a lot of school parking available, but it requires a permit to park. It is a huge steel sphere that is broken, blown open or artfully cut to resemble the earth's continents. It is severely rusted, but that just adds to its mystique if you ask me. This is definitely not a destination piece, so fortunately it is located on a campus art walk with many different and unique pieces to check out. It kind of reminds me of the World Trade Center Sphere that survived the attacks of 9/22, but on a smaller scale. I am on the fence with this sculpture. It really does not draw me in, nor does it have an interesting backstory that I can feed off. It is also very plain and basic in my opinion, but that is just me. Anyway, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. With that being said, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

I have often dragged along my non-science friends and they enjoy it just as much. While there is some jargon thrown around, for the most part if the speaker sounds interesting to you, he/she probably will be and you'll be able to keep up. It is too bad that they meet in the Mercantile room though. I went once when it was downstairs at Wynkoop in the Impulse theatre...it was so much bigger and had a much better layout. But if you get there early (around six) you won't have a trouble finding a seat either way.

The Mercantile room at the Wynkoop has more eggheads per square inch than can possibly be healthy. There's a diner and most everybody has a beer in hand. I have heard some really fascinating talks there. The Wynkoop is awesome. The only real negative that I can comment on is that the setting isn't big enough for the huge crowd that this attracts. It is standing room only by the time the speaker takes the mic. If you get there early you can stake claim to a chair at one of the tables. If you get there maybe 15 minutes before then there is still some carpet space for you to sit at. If you get there on time, you're gonna stand the whole time. Do SomeThing Good, C

Pet friendly, kid friendly, flat trail with little to no challenges or worries. It does state to…read morewatch out for wild life such as coyotes and rattlers, but I haven't seen some just yet. It might sound boring, but that doesn't mean you won't spy a cute little squirrel or bunny!! This is one of those peaceful, quiet trails that you go to get lost in your own mind and thoughts. It's full of a God worthy sunset/sun rise and the walk may go on for a while. I don't think anyone would get bored, as there is something for everyone. Full of loud, chirping prairie dogs in the summer! It is an actual open space trail, so you won't worry about the 6 feet distance. You can find the trail on the All Trails App, and it is currently rated "Easy." I've seen lots of baby carriages and pups on leashes, and plenty of joggers. This trail will go on for a length of 4.1 mi, according to the All Trails App website. "There are benches, gazebos, and a restroom available along the trail."

This section of trail just opened in October and leads from Reunion South heading northbound through the future park area and Second Creek Open Space area, under 104th Ave, and connecting to trails leading to Brighton and other areas. There's no parking allowed near this trailhead currently so you'll have to be local or have a friend living over here, but it makes for a nice quick hike. The open space portion has a lot of prairie dogs and basically follows Second Creek. Overall, not too bad Commerce City! Most dog owners even clean up after themselves!

Great place to toss a disc, set up a v-ball net, have picnic. Don't let the location fool you. This locale is a very solid 3. Hey Beavis, I just said "Brest". Huh, huh - huh. The secret-sauce of this park is it's the greatest place to catch a killer Glendale fireworks show on the 4th. I don't think I've ever used the words "killer" and "Glendale" together unless there was a homicide involved. The City of Brest Park is one of about 10 such sister parks in Denver. Brest, France took huge knocks during WWII, and kids from Denver saved up their pennies and nickels to help out. Not unlike the disaster zone that is Colorado Blvd., the City of Brest park takes a pounding if you dare to venture to the east side, or hang on on the south where there's the endless construction near S. Cheery Creek. As if it were a pissed off skunk, I avoid Colorado Blvd near here if at all possible. Park on S. Garfield or S. Harrison to put you smack dab in the middle of the park, and be surprised that this park fails to suck.

It's a little bit hidden from the road and there's a fancy quiet neighborhood behind the park. We were looking for a good place to watch the Glendale fireworks this year and thought we'd take the advice of other Yelpers and try City of Brest. The great parts are there is plenty of parking (we parked at Central Christian Church) and plenty of nice grass to spread out. It didn't feel crowded at all. The only downside was that you couldn't see the low fireworks very well because of the trees. I will be back, though, because of the convenience!

I have always loved to people watch. From my school's campus…read moreto the mall, watching the random people, we call the general public, is quite entertaining. however, NOTHING was more wild than interesting than those who chose to walk the streets of the People's Fair. Miss Laura L (aka my sister!) and I had a cute yelp booth, perfectly stationed directly next to the kettle corn ( yummmm!) and the beer cart ( perfection!) and seemed to attract a fun yet odd crowd. Here is just a few things we laid our eyes on: 1. sunburns galore. me included. boo. 2. sweaty brows. ew. however, our yelp fans and wrist bans came to the rescue! 3. tons of children with painted faces. awkward. 4. overweight men and women carrying turkey legs, funnel cakes, margaritas, and cigarettes. (some had them all.) 5.angry drunk people. one specifically who demanded my bottle of water, which was not a prize our wheel o yelp offered. after her yelling at me, i said "thanks" and turned away, before she tripped and moved on to the next booth. blah. Fabulous fun=people watching, visits from yelpers....who brought beer, and over 1100 sign ups for our newsletter. YAY!! i am one happy yelper :)
