And how blessed am I to be able to class this utter treat as my old local! It's as homely a place as ever you'd find and the beer is twice as nice. The decor speaks of times gone by, and yet the olde days meet the new, welcoming in the latest generation of real ale drinkers who sup on their Uley bitter, like a duck takes to water. And no, in real ale country we don't use sparklers. Pints are filled to the top, if you don't mind, none of that half-a-pint-o-head business in here! Yes, in this CAMRA awarded pub you can expect to find the finest brews. The antiquated sit comfortably next to the whipper snappers and drink harmoniously until close, enjoying the lamp heated sheltered garden and cosy interior. Under the steady headship of Steve I don't think I've ever spent a night in here unsatisfied with the ambience, booze and company - this place is the only place to go in Dursley town.

If you're visiting the area don't pass through Dursley without stopping in at the Old Spot for a pint. Highly recommended.

That tells it like it is. This place features in CAMRAs Good Beer and Cider Guides - with more than 5 real ales on tap and a choice of 23 ciders (oh, and about 8 excellent wines . . . . and several top notch whiskys . . . . need I say more). The restaurant matches the booze very well, serving a solid and reliable range of English standards done well. For example, there was a Perry Fish Pie, made with pear cider (or Perry), thick cut gammon with a home-made tomato pickle and pickalilli, new potatoes and a chunky salad, there was also a lovely home-made tomato and basil soup and delightfully large and succulent - yet crisp - salmon fishcakes with a potato and parsley mash. We were delighted and impressed with both the service and the food.

When we visited we thought we would grab some traditional pub lunch as we had 1,5hrs to kill. Appearances can be very deceiving and this is a true case. The food is presented in a way that reminds you of a more of a upper class restaurant and not a pub in the country. The food is beautifully presented and the quality is also spectacular. The steak of my wife was cooked to perfection, juicy and tasty and my ribs were so succulent and tender. The ribs were so well cooked that the meat just fell of the bones. Everything from the salad to the French fries was fantastic. Yes you pay a little more than in a normal pub but the quality and food is just outstanding. It seems in a very nice location - offers parking and also outside facilities.

The Green Dragon Inn - I can only imagine how warm and comforting this would be when cold out!

There is a restaurant and bar, with plenty of outdoor seating for people to enjoy when the weather is fine. By the amount of people that were here, we could tell that this is a very popular destination. There are two parts to the restaurant and bar. Both contain seating for dining and drinking, though breakfast was on the "bar" side. For dinner, we were seated in a beautiful curved and windowed dining area with plenty of sunshine and a beautiful view outdoors. Our service was attentive and friendly. For dinner, my husband had the sirloin steak. He said that it was delicious and tender. He really enjoyed the accompanying peppercorn sauce. I had the barbecued turkey. It had a tasty char on it, and it was very delicious with its umami and slightly sweet barbecue flavor. Potatoes, chips, and salads were sides. We were both full from our generous meals, but it's almost impossible to forgo a delicious dessert! I had spotted dick, which was warm, sweetly moist, and subtly spiced. My husband had sticky pudding with ice cream. Both desserts hit the spot! Breakfast is a combination of continental and menu items. We enjoyed our fresh ojs, coffees, and he his Full English while I relished avocado toast with poached eggs. Accommodations are behind the restaurant and pub. It's a two-story cozy building, with four rooms downstairs. We did not go upstairs, but there are rooms above, as well. Our room was very comfortable, with all the amenities that we would need. Our room, Midnight Court, has French doors that lead out into a patio with seating and a garden beyond. There is a farm store that sells coffees, teas, tasty treats, and a variety of unique gifts, souvenirs, as well as groceries. There is outdoor seating here, too. Parking is limited to overnighting guests, located between the restaurant and the accommodations. We could see additional parking located across the street for drop-ins. We felt very fortunate to find the Green Dragon Inn. It ticked off all of the boxes for these two American travelers looking for a quintessential inn stay.

We each selected from meat, fish and chicken dishes and they were all succulent and perfectly balanced. We ended the night and shared the lemon tart with lemon sorbet which had a lovely balance with the strawberry drizzle.

The young lady was so helpful but said there would be a wait of about 90 minutes. No problem to us as we then able to have a couple of drinks before hand. So, a TIP. This pub is brilliant so nearly always full. BOOK A TABLE. A few people turned up after us but were told they couldn't be seated. We were so lucky. The food was out of this world with pricing more down to earth. Service could not be beaten by a wonderful staff of young ladies who, luckily for us, had a great sense of humour. They needed it serving us. Lovely pub with an unusual interior décor which went with the area. A really good wine choice for such a small place. Normally it's red, white or rose. Now to knock a member of management. The board showed two dessert wines, which I love. Unfortunately these, at the time, were unavailable because the owner had gone to Spain with the cabinet key, I was told. Sorry, Richard you nearly lost a star. Just joking. Well worth the trek to find this diamond in the Forest of Dean. Trust me, you will love it but, remember, BOOK ahead.
