I made an appointment a week in advance through their online booking, which was super helpful to view the stylist bios and pricing before committing plus it sent me a few timely reminders via text. I arrived roughly 15 minutes ahead of my appointment and scored a parking spot right out front. Sammy was with another client so I had a short wait while she finished up and reset her station. After a quick chat to establish a game plan, I was off to the wash and back in the chair for what felt like the quickest haircut of my life. I swear it was about 30 minutes from chat to checkout! I really appreciated that she styled my hair how I'd be styling it at home so I was able to get a good sense of the cut before I left the salon. Again with curly hair, this makes a world of difference! Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Moods. Whatever happened in previous Yelp reviews, that was nowhere to be found on my visit. The space was inviting and the staff seem to be very experienced. I also thought my haircut was very affordable compared to other salons I've been to. Just as surgeons maybe shouldn't perform their own surgeries, I know when to let someone else cut my hair. 9am on a Thursday I walked in to Moods to a friendly sign asking me to put shoe coverings on (and mask up of course!). I liked this a lot. COVID has butchered the salon industry, so anything that a salon can do to up the sanitization game is huge. Moods Salon was spotless. Then I met Amber. Stylist roulette handed me a beautiful, friendly and enthusiastic ray of sunshine. (No really... you cannot ignore it.). From just a haircut perspective: once I stopped talking about "my hair" (we ALL do it..) she chimed in that she had originally attended barber school and was just shy of finishing when she transferred to cosmetology school to finish up. Oh Universe! Her skill showed this truth. I sit here writing this with the best grown out haircut I've ever had. We walked in on a Thursday evening to a clean, welcoming salon. We were immediately greeted and they were instantly ready for us (no appointment) once we picked our pedicure polish colors. We sat side by side in nice, seemingly new chairs with massage remotes that actually worked, clean and welcoming decor (neutral colors and not overdone like many salons) and the two friendliest pedicure-givers ever. Right away they got us drinks to make us comfortable. I had a man named Tien and my friend had a lady, we didn't grab her name but she was delightful too. We talked to Tien the whole time, about everything - his background, our lives, etc. He was so welcoming. They didn't rush our pedicures like some places, and took time on the massaging while we relaxed. After the pedicure, we went to the nail dryers and Tien brought us a stack of magazines in case we were bored. When we were done, we were genuinely thanked by the other woman. I paid a deposit ahead of time and when I arrived she was not ready. She cut and washed my locs to prepare for reattachment and she seemed to run out of hair and created some locs in a texture that did not match my hair. I had to travel for an event so I made the best of things with a plan to fix it with her another time. I scheduled to return for a retwist and repair of the locs that were unraveling and she requested a deposit as usual. I got an automated reminder from Booksy the day prior so I thought everything was happening according to plan. I drove 2 hours to her shop at Ste 23 at the Sola Salons in Chandler and no one was there. In addition to teaching in their classroom space, my students used several of the healing rooms. Each was nicely furnished with a soothing color painted on the walls. Lovely relaxing music wafts throughout the center, and the students found that during their practice sessions they were able to deeply relax in the very nurturing environment. They also have a nice gift shop where customers can select from an array of healing crystals, aromatherapy oils, healing jewelry and more. The entire center was very clean, and quiet. I was on a very tight travel schedule and unfortunately I was unable to personally schedule a massage. However, I heard several very satisfied customers exclaim that their massage was "the Best ever!" If I am in the area again, I will be sure to schedule time for a massage.
