Just had my first session for a large back piece/cover up with Christina. She's an amazing artist and just a cool person. Everyone I interacted with at the shop was friendly and professional. The place is super clean, and they play good music. Please understand that this isn't one of those shops that you can just walk into randomly and get a tattoo in a couple hours, it's by appointment only. These artists are top notch, and their schedule reflects that. With that in mind, I did see them helping people find the right artist, even if it wasn't in their shop. To me that says they care about people and the art of tattooing. 10/10 would recommend! read more

To say I would recommend this tattoo shop to anyone just isn't enough. Every bone. in. my. body. recommends this place. I researched pretty much every tattoo artist's portfolio in Savannah before deciding on Ben Kelly at Red Ocean (It's always a bit risky handing your body over to a stranger and letting them permanently ink something super-special onto your skin forever-and-ever) I was blown away when I saw my finished tattoo...... The quality of tattoos and customer service this business is putting out is by far the best in Savannah. I will be back and I will definitely be recommending this place to anyone that's looking to get inked. Also I've had this tattoo for a week and so many people have complimented it/asked who the artist is/ commented on the amazing detail. What they say is true, you get what you pay for! Ben Kelly exceeded expectations with my thigh piece. Line work, shading, attention to detail, and the raw artistic ability have meshed perfectly together to make an absolute beautiful homage to a late family member. I am absolutely in love with it and will happily recommend him to anyone wanting beautiful quality tattoos. As for the shop itself, Ben and everyone else I met in the shop were polite and friendly providing just a genuinely comfortable atmosphere. I came to Savannah from Texas for vacation and contacted Jas before my trip to see if I could get in. She was awesome and came in on her day off to accommodate my schedule. I have her pretty much free reign to do whatever she wanted and I was not dissapointed! She is a very talented artist! As well as a super nice person, and if you are lucky she will sing along with the radio for you. She worked on me for about five hours and it was the most enjoyable tattoo I've received. I highly reccomend visiting her portfolio and letting her create something for you! I am ready to fly back to get more work from her! read more

Wow. Just wow. I found this tattoo parlor and was amazed by the artwork done by the artists. I gifted my boyfriend with a tattoo for his birthday and decided that after a bunch of research, this was the place to go. He went in and met with an artist and showed her a picture of what he wanted and what he liked from the picture and booked an appointment for a month and a half out, and they agreed that she would contact him with a price quote and sketch via email. Well fast forward to two weeks before his scheduled appointment (a month after the consult) and he hasn't heard anything from her. He tried calling- straight to voicemail- and emailing- no response. He decided that he still wanted to go in and see if he even liked what she had drawn up. We drove 45 minutes last Thursday to the shop just to have it not meet his expectations. This could have been avoided if she would have been in contact with him like she said she would be. We explained to her what he liked and wanted to include in the design from the original photo, and she said that she would "try to get it done that day, but couldn't make any promises". We had a feeling it wouldn't get done. It didn't. She asked if we could come in a different day but he had work so she said she could come in on her day off if she had to. So he rescheduled for today and once again asked her to contact him with a sketch beforehand so this type of situation could be avoided. NOTHING. She sends him a pic of her hardly changed design with none of the changes he wanted included THIS MORNING. The day of his rescheduled appointment. And sends him texts full of guilt trips (See attached photos). Once again the sketch did not meet his expectations and she has the audacity to blame him for this, stating that he "didn't address any of this in person the other day"- we did. This type of behavior is incredibly unprofessional. You should have pride in your work and treat your clients with respect. Not cover your own ass and play some blame game. She only refunded him half of his deposit. Disgusting and pathetic. We will never be returning, which is so sad because these artists are truly amazing, but it left a bad taste in our mouths. I'm just sad because the other reviews are so wonderful and I truly wanted to love it. read more

I went in December for my first professional tattoo and covid was still a big concern bc the vaccine wasn't really a thing yet, no one had masks on. The artist was rude to me and the other artists who weren't even doing my tattoo were talking about my tattoo and were also being rude. It was not a good environment I had such bad vibes. As a woman I was pretty uncomfortable in there. My artist kept trying to convince me to move my tattoo to a different spot even though I was 100% set on where I wanted it. He kept acting like I was stupid. I get it if it would have looked bad where I chose but it actually looks great and is a great spot. My tattoo is good but the service there was not worth it. Also the artist didn't have change for cash so I had to tip like 50% bc it was all I had. Don't recommend especially for people who are first getting tattoos read more

To start, I never like leaving a bad review just because. So, I start, I went in on the "consult hour"..talked to Ben the owner about getting work done...He said go look at our book, I said I know what I wanted to get done, as soon as I showed him what I wanted to get done he was immediately standoffish, he him hawed about the design I wanted, and I'm thinking, just say yes I'll do it or no I won't, just be honest, he had 2 artists look at it, one female artist said, that's easy, the other said, " I recommend a different body part, he said if I do a hand tattoo I want it to be more intricate a work of art"...then Ben said I get the whole " my body my choice..and he said well we have the right to refuse" and yes I get that totally but just be more forthcoming about it, a hand tat isn't a big deal, He responded with OK there's a Tattoo code, I call bullshit on that, it's a tattoo, not a code of honor.. So basically you're telling me if somebody walks in and looks at a book picks a random tattoo put it on their body forever, that is more important than somebody coming in with a design that they know they want? So to end, if they want to put art on your body is that they want and that you don't want but you may agree upon they're all about doing it, Very pretentious, I would not recommend, there are much better options read more

I went in for a consultation before Christmas and spoke with Ben Kelly. I told him what I was looking to get done and that it needed to be a coverup from an old tattoo. Ben took my ideas and spun them into something I couldn't have imagined. He is truly an excellent artist. The art work is amazing. I couldn't stop laughing and smiling when I saw his ideas put on paper. I've very impressed with his skill and Ben was amazing the entire time we sat down (4hrs).
