Compared to the Goodwill next door this place has some of the best items and better finds. There's a lot more antiques, unusual finds and variety with great prices. Their clothes are fairly price though they're meant section is lacking. I found a couple of great hats here as well. Great place for a thrift store enthusiast to kill time for about an hour or so. Prices are WAY too high. They forgot they're a thrift shop. They're trying to be a boutique but it's not happening. Oh man. I came in based on someone's suggestion, looking for a triple slow cooker for a birthday party. It was WAY bigger inside than I expected by looking at the store front. I glanced around at the kitchenwares and kids' clothes. Everything seemed overpriced for the condition, probably because they were advertising a 50% off sale the following weekend. There were tons of single, lost shoes around. I think I saw maybe 3 matching pairs. As I walked further back, everything was literally just thrown around. I can't believe they keep the store like this and expect people to want to shop. Definitely won't be back. Try the many Savers in the metro area for good deals and organized stores. read more

This is the best Red Racks. It is cleaner than the others and it seems to get nicer stuff. I just purchased a baby changing table for $8. After a touch of paint it looks brand new. I stop in here occasionally when I'm looking for furniture or home goods. I haven't bought clothes here or at any other thrift store, so I can't give any reviews on clothing. read more

I CAN NOT BELIEVE THE PRICING and not just one store but all of the Red Racks in the KC Metro area, its simply ridiculous.. This is why all of the furniture in the stores has been there for over 12 months. $800 for a faded leather broken down couch? $80 for a chair that look like the dog donated. $200 for a desk that isn't even real wood. T.V.'s hahahaha you can buy a New 55+in tv for what they want for a 32in with no remote or power cord. This is why they only move clothing. I will not be donating to them anymore.... Salvation Army and Goodwill are the places to donate and shop. The same items and I mean the same items are next door at Goodwill (in Blue Spring anyway) for a tenth of the price. For instance. A (1) wine glass at Red Racks is $2.99 (that's more than new in most cases) The exact wine glass next door at Goodwill is $0.69 Something is not right here. Then the manager is training a new employee and he says and I quote "Well if I think its worth anything I pull it" WTF does that mean.. I thought the point of a Nonprofit 501 (c) 4 organization was to help people.. You are ripping people off, They should just go to Walmart, at least this way you have a warranty, a fare return policy and you will pay the same price but its new. I will be doing some digging into this. I wonder what % of there profits actually go into the community or to the veterans for that matter as well as what kind of salary they take including board members. I ran a nonprofit and I would have been ashamed if I priced items the way they do. I've been shopping at this location and the one in Independence for several years. They used to be fairly overpriced, but nowadays their prices are about average for a "chain" thrift store. I look primarily for movies and occasionally music CD and clothes. Their inventory appears to turn over quickly, so I can usually find a handful of good stuff with weekly visits. The only thing I dislike about the store is that it seems to be severely understaffed, causing large backups at the checkout. Usually one or two employees are tasked with operating both the registers and their "Showcase" area. Yesterday was particularly bad, as it took over 15 minutes of waiting in line before I was able to pay for the 3 movies I found. I won't count this against their score, though, as stuff like this is usually an issue with their corporate folk having no perspective of what's necessary to assure smooth day to day operation of their stores. read more

Today I had the worst experience of my life at this store. I have number n Buying tons from them over years. One month back they had very rudely spoken to me that I should not leave my carton unwanted stuff. Since then Ii have complied and been leaving nothing behind. However. Today I had a cart with things I left in the back furniture area as I went to get another one. That is my routine. I go to the back. Sort it out what I want and them put back the rest as they were having issues if I left as I said above. No change. I come back to the back and my cart is gone. I also use a chair and get my own pics and don't bother these people. One young lady follows me and rudely says you left this chair you going to buy if. She could be my daughter. Then a heavy set middle aged lady joined her. I mad every effort to explain to them my system and that for the last month I have been putting everything back. They continued to be rude to me. Your cart is in the front. Sort there. Why. I like to be in the back and take my time. Indirectly they were accusing me of theft which I have never done. Spent hundreds of dollars is what I have at this store. I finally had enough and walked out as I could not take the humiliation any more. So when walking the heavy wet lady now threatens me that if you don't walk out or come back I will call the police. This is nonsensical and humiliating to be treated like that by a place that I have been patronizing and spending money on every week for years. Well I walked out and I'm never going back again. Other places to go everywhere. This store has a history for testing employees and customers poorly. Some of the girls in the front are like daughters to me and good friends but clearly the two protagonists today the young girl in the white and the middle aged lady were higher ups and felt they could insult a customer with no consequences. Well I don't care any more. I don't need them. They needed me. More. I would simply say that if you are considering this store please be careful. If you a good customer they will find a way to be rude to you. They had an excellent person in Ron who was making serious positive changes and they threw him out too. Very ego driven people. WITHOUT QUESTION one of the most overpriced thrift stores in the country. Downright ridiculous when items have been DONATED!! A moldy, old, train case for $50. A large faux painting for $80 that would be $9.99 anywhere else. Clothes, furniture, shoes, jewelry, everything.... is easily 200-500% higher than you would find next door at the Goodwill! Otherwise, I could go to Kohl's clearance rack and get same thing new at same price or less! The store on 23rd Street close to 291 highway prices the items "donated" to them extremely high. You can hardly push a cart through this store because of all the merchandise backed up because they are priced too high. It's like they are selling gold instead of used items. I am a long time thrift shopper and red racks has always been one of my favorite thrift shops to visit. I love the fact that the proceeds go to veterans. Plus they have a fantastic variety of stuff and it's all in great shape.So please don't take what I'm about to say as a insult against the company as a whole, because my issue is with the new manager/managment. This place should have zero Stars, they're way overpriced for their second hand junk. They have found themselves having to have frequent 50% off days because of their outrageous pricing. And even then their prices are barely down to what Goodwill charges normally . I have seen multiple items that are priced like brand new. Once there was a StairMaster in there which sold at the exact price that I paid for my brand new one only two weeks prior. This is ridiculous, who do they think they are! The next thing I can't stand about them is they double staple the tickets to every item and when you try to pry the Staples out you end up just ripping the cloth or destroying the item. On glassware and furniture they write the price on it with a big black marker, this is next to impossible to get off. They have completely taken the fun out of thrift store shopping and I for one will never go there again! read more

I recently moved back to Blue Springs after living in another town for two years. I used to love to visit red racks! but the last few times I've visited, I walked out without making a purchase. I was very disgruntled about the price on items. They do a lot of 50% markdown days but their prices are doubled what they used to be. Inflation does not go up by 50% in two years (we're all doomed if it does) They are price gouging and it's awful to see. I will not shop at a DAV Red racks again. It's dirty, and charities should be just that, charity. P.S. This is an example... a Christmas tree was listed on its tag as $140. Need I remind you that that's a used Christmas tree that someone else throughout. I can go buy brand new one, or a few new ones for that price another example, a small love seat for $65 grease stains and all. Red Racks is another DAV thrift store only it operates under a different name. The store itself is HUGE their clothing selection has something for everybody. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the prices are fair. Their furniture section is unbeatable (though a little pricy for a thrift store). read more

I have been going to Red Racks for several years now. I fully support the veterans because I too come from a family of veterans and I am a wife to a vet as well. But my experience there on Friday 5/20/2016 was the worst I have come across. I was with my 13 year old son and 1 year old daughter. The "manager" there was rude to my son and complained that he was being "smart" with her when he stated he was simply "trying to take care of his baby sister while I look for items that I needed." (If that is her idea of a kid being smart, then she obviously needs to surround herself with people that have higher than a one digit IQ). She has stated we could leave, which we did, but on the way out, several other customers that overheard the conversation stated that she has always been rude and there has been several complaints about her in the past. I have already voiced my opinion to several of my other close friends and they have also told me they have had problems with that same manager!! It is pretty frusterating because I believe in their cause, but I will not be returning back to that store. read more
