Bring snacks at your own risk... they'll be watching.... and NO, they're not afraid of humans so they'll be following you around!! If you've got kids, they'll be spoiled with a splash pad and 5 separate playgrounds to conquer. There are jogging trails for anyone pretending they're going to exercise, sports fields for every game imaginable, tons of picnic tables, and enough trees and grass to make you question whether you're still in the desert!?!?! Whether you're looking to walk off last night's buffet, let the kids burn off enough energy to sleep before 8 pm, have a family picnic, or simply escape the neon madness of the Strip, this place delivers!! It makes a big difference when you have little ones or wanderers and want a bit more peace of mind. There are options for both bucket swings and regular swings, so it works well for different ages. The splash pad area is pretty spacious and gives kids plenty of room to run around, although it's not enclosed. There are quite a few trees around the park but they aren't really positioned in a way that provides much shade where you'd actually want to sit/can sit comfortably. The women's bathroom had multiple stalls, which was nice, but there was no changing table or hand soap in the bathroom. The bathrooms just gave a very worn look/feel to it though. Also not a big fan that they were a bit far from the playground and right in front of the parking lot. It gave me a bad feeling. I also saw there's a disc golf course here, if anyone is wondering (pics provided). The biggest issue for me was the amount of trash scattered around. There was everything from random litter to cigarette butts in common areas, which took away from the overall experience. With better maintenance, I feel like this park can be a favorite in the future.

"Shoot the Gap!"…read more Nestled in what I think was supposed to a wash for extra rainwater to avoid flooding, is an eighteen hole disc golf course that weaves in and out of a private neighborhood. The person who designed this course is obviously insane. This course tough. A lot of the baskets can't even be seen, so you need to rely heavily on the signs at each tee before you take your shot. Some of the holes are around blind corners, hug the wall, and few are even directly behind trees. Trees! There are so many trees on this course, that after you play this course I'm sure you'll have dings and chips out of your brand new fancy disc's. A few gripes about this course... - Terrible signage. If you've never been here before, you'll get lost. - Located in a neighborhood. Literally the course goes through houses and backyards. At one point you have walk a quarter mile down a street to get to hole fifteen. - Dog poo. This course follows a walking trail where the surrounding neighborhood takes their dogs to go #2. Even though there's a doggie poo bag station every twenty feet, people still leave steamers all over the place. I stepped in two... two!, fresh piles of recycled kibbles n' bits. What are the odds? - Dirty looks from old folks. ** Shakes fist ** "Stay out of my yard!" I personally really liked this course. Mostly because I've never seen a course through a neighborhood before. This is NOT a starter course by the way. If you come here for your first time, I can almost guarantee you'll lose a disc in a backyard. Have fun fighting the neighborhood dog for that one. PROTIP: Bring water and extra discs. Just incase one goes flying over a neighbors wall.

This course is a bit confusing especially towards the last 5 or 6 holes. The signage is pretty spot on, but if you've gotta see the pin before you toss, you may be in for a lot of double takes. Once you finish hole 12 or 13, you have to take a walk down the street. About a 5 minute walk to get to the rest of the course. Not much out of bounds on this course. This is a great course because if you have a left hook or a right hook, half of the course is in your favor. Figure the rest out ;) See you on the course!

I love coming here for a peaceful stroll down the walking paths, admiring the beautiful desert trees and flowers. Early May, 2024. (Arriving on a Sunday, leaving on Monday). We spent two days, including one night…read morecamping, in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (NRA) which includes Mount Charleston. Administered by the US Department of Agriculture's Forest Service, the entrance is just 17 miles from Hwy 95 on Rte 157 or 45 minutes (and a world away) from the hustle and bustle - and heat - of the Las Vegas strip. Sunday. We started at the Visitor Gateway, where there are helpful staff and maps to help you to plan your stay. In addition, there is a gift shop, clean restrooms, an amphitheater, picnic areas, and trailheads to the Pack Rat Route and the Escarpment Trails. Next on our itinerary were a pair of scenic drives. From the Visitors Gateway, we traveled a short distance on Rte 157, until intersecting with Rte 158, which took us up the windy mountain road. We passed the entrances to The Resort on Mount Charleston, various trailheads, picnic areas, and campgrounds. We stopped at the Desert View Overlook, walking the short interpretive trail and taking photos. We continued in Rte 158 until we intersected with Rte 156, which we took left to the Lee Canyon ski area, passing picnic areas, campgrounds, and trailheads along the way. We then turned around, and went back down the mountain. Upon again intersecting with Rte 157, we took it to its terminus at the Mount Charleston Lodge. Our final destination was our campsite at the Fletcher View Campground (reviewed separately). Monday. We returned to the Visitors Gateway, and did the two "more difficult" hikes that originated there -- the Pack Rat Route (only 0.4 mi) is short, paved, and very steep. If you do it as a loop, the trail is somewhat washed out towards the end. Pack Rat connected to the 2.4 mile Escarpment Trail, which takes you above the cliffs and to some wonderful mountain views. Both of these trails are for hiking only. No bikes or horses. Some things to note: *The Visitors Gateway provides a good map of the area which I've posted a Yelp (in Spanish). It shows trails (including hiking, cycling, equestrian, and interpretative), campgrounds, picnic areas, restrooms, etc. *The map also highlights the trails in the NRA, with ratings of easy to moderate to more difficult to most difficult. It also provides distances, but not elevation changes. *When we were there (May, 2024), at least 6 trails, including the popular Mary Jane Falls Trail, were closed due to storm damage.

I was pretty much alone because it was 100 degrees, only one other disc golfer and a pair of regular golfers in front of me. It was fun and actually a bit challenging as you have to hit it straight and avoid a lot of overhanging trees. Greens are in good shape and pretty slow rolling. I finished in an hour and went to their little bar and had a Natty Light. It was a great way to spend an hour and I will be back for sure.
