We chose this hotel because it was only and 8-minute drive from Mount Rushmore. We were planning to stay for the lighting ceremony and wanted a short drive in the dark. The Roosevelt Inn was clean, quiet, and had updated rooms. We had two rooms: a king room with balcony and a two-queen room. The king room had more space and a larger bathroom with a walk-in shower. The two-queen room was more cramped (not surprising) and had a smaller bathroom with a tub-shower combo. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast, which was included, included cold cereal, oatmeal with several toppings, eggs, sausage patties, and potatoes. There was also a machine that made pancakes. There were also several types of bread to toast. The juice machine had a couple different juices and the regular and decaf coffees were good. A lactose-free/non-dairy milk would have been nice. The hotel also had a swimming pool, a game room, and laundry facilities. It was walking distance to several restaurants including Halley's, a pizza place, Subway, bagel place, coffee, and a wine bar. read more

Adored this old hotel at foot of Mount Rushmore in Keystone, SD. We stayed in Room 414 and this was much nicer than the Best Western we had stayed in the previous night in Lusk, Wyoming. Room was extremely clean with a huge bed, two sinks, microwave, tv and refrigerator. A jacuzzi tub/shower was in the bathroom. Also - there was this really cool step up seating area overlooking the room which is quite comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Keystone, meaning it's walkable distance from everything you would need for an overnight stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and if I ever return to this area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! read more

The inn is right on the corner of 16A and Cemetery Road a few miles from Mt Rushmore so very easy to find as it has the look of a historic inn with the white balconies. Lobby has some seating on one side and the breakfast room on the other. We had a family suite this time as this was the only room available when I booked and it wasn't too much more pricey than the chain hotel we stayed at in Custer the night before. We are right next to the elevator but it wasn't noisy. The room is spacious with two queen beds, a living room, big couch, several upholstered chairs and a couple of side tables. Microwave and fridge and even a fireplace. Ceiling fan in living room, aircon in bedroom which also had a balcony. Wifi is fast enough, shower is hot and strong. Staff very friendly. Also convenient as it's across the street from the Keystone Mall which has various dining options. Hot water/coffee machine in the breakfast room and real mugs are provided. Breakfast it a notch up than our previous chain hotel versions on this trip - real scrambled eggs as opposed to powdered kinds. Sausage patties are good. The bakery items are not the most exciting - buns with some kind of icing smeared on top didn't look very appealing. Breakfast room can get quite crowded between 7-8 although there are a bunch of tables out on the porch which would be a better place to sit anyway. read more

We found the Roosevelt Inn to be well located and appreciated the breakfast options (there were 3) served from 7:00 to 9:00, as well as some housekeeping services. Another hotel in town screwed is over and we won't to the Roosevelt to stay. Boy are we happy we did! The rooms were newly furnished with a beautiful remote controlled fireplace. And the continental breakfast was very good! They are also one of the few places in town that accepts dogs. We had to pay a little more but it was worth it. The next morning we woke up to a dead battery and Jesse helped us for nearly an hour to get us on the road. Without his help we would've spent many hours in Rapid City trying to get things fixed. My experience with the Roosevelt Inn has been nothing short of absolutely lovely. I had a travel delay that would land me after check-in hours. I called the front desk to alert them and no problem! They checked me in there and left me with a group of items at the check-in desk for when I arrived, including a comprehensive map of the property and my key. I was placed in an easy to access room that was bigger than my 2 bedroom apartment in NYC. Sheets were clean, as was everything else. TV was easy to figure out, and heater was already on, so the room was perfectly set up for me to pass out after 17 hours of driving. Breakfast the next morning was so far beyond what I expected. Yes, the standard cereal and cold toast, but egg and cheese patties! And French toast! And sausage patties galore! Fresh oatmeal, fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs and more. It was everything I needed in a hotel after a long drive. Parking was easy, although the road out is scary AF at night (watch for a bajillion deer hiding out after some of those tight corners!), but that's not the fault of the hotel. A quick trip to Mount Rushmore from here and I'm on my way. Thanks for a great stay! read more

Yes this hotel is old and dated, but it is very clean, very comfortable, and very close to everything you want to see here in keystone and Mount Rushmore. The beds are very comfortable and I really appreciate the two queen beds and two twin bed set up. Everybody slept so well here compared to the fancy hotels we stayed at where there's a pull out sofa with mattress that looks like it's about to fall apart. The breakfast is solid and has a good selection and hot food. I love the pancake maker. The staff here is super friendly especially Bob. Overall, I would recommend this place to anybody who wants to visit Mount Rushmore. read more

The Roosevelt Inn is a ok place to stay. It's clean the rooms partially updated but the bathrooms (at least in our room) has seen better days. I was looking forward to a jacuzzi bath in our room as the nice lady at the receptions has promised only to find a tiny bathtub with some jets to blow some air in. We'd rather go for the room with the balcony to have at least some spectacle to watch in this off-season dead place. This should be more like 3 1/2 stars. It is a nice looking lodging, probably with a deep history but there is not much information posted on the walls nor reading materials to keep its patrons intrigued. Our room was clean and soac with a refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker. Unfortunately we got a room on the first floor, behind the kitchen and all the noise and the smell from it woke us up 6 in the morning. It would have been fine if it was one of the days on our trip when we had to wake up early, but it wasn't. I'm not sure if it's because the room was an ADA room but the bathroom door was on a spring that did not stay open and kept closing which was uncomfortable for us to use. Breakfast was good with sausages, scrambled eggs, French toast, hard boiled eggs, selection of breads and cereals, yogurt, and juices. I have a feeling if we had a room on the second or third floor, I could have rated it 5 stars. Who knows? read more

Love the outside of the building. We chose a balcony room which we enjoyed in the evening. Beds and linens were very comfortable. The service including breakfast was good. Our shower curtain was missing when we arrived one was brought to our room upon request. The exhaust fan in our bathroom was terribly noisy and the light was on the same switch so no matter what you had to suffer through the fan noise. Location and proximity to Mt. Rushmore was perfect. Not sure if we would stay here again which is a shame this hotel has so much potential. read more

The positives are that Keystone is about as close to Mount Rushmore as you can get and the price was right. The breakfast is fairly extensive and there are a lot of tables to sit at. I enjoyed the Roosevelt theme---all the quotes throughout the hotel, the sitting area in the lobby and a display in the breakfast room. The negatives are that we only had sound on our TV (no picture) and when I said something to the desk in the morning, I was told that I needed to turn it off and on until it worked. I also mentioned that the ceiling fan in the bathroom had about an inch of dust on it. Other than that, the room seemed clean. We had a room with an alcove upstairs that had two single beds, which was cool, but we didn't need that space since there were only two of us. There were a fair number of people staying at the hotel, but if we had stayed in the summer, when it was more crowded, my review might not have been as favorable. read more

Definitely loved this location for our stay in the area. It was perfect for getting to the attractions we planned on seeing. The staff was very helpful with any questions we had and the included breakfast was enough for us to have fuel in our system until lunch. The breakfast consisted of biscuits and sausage gravy, pancakes, fruit cups, yogurt, cereal, danishes/pastries, coffee, juices, and milk. There is a gazebo for eating outside if you wish or just to relax. The game room seems decent, but we didn't use it while there. There is also a laundry room to use if needed, but be prepared with coins. You can't see Mount Rushmore from the hotel, but if you make your way out into the street in front of the hotel, you definitely can. This location is perfect! read more

Originally booked our room because they are pet friendly and had great reviews. Ended up leaving our fur babies at home, but kept our reservation. So glad we did. Our first floor room open to the front and was quite nice. Very comfortable and priced right! The hot breakfast was tasty and served in a very safe manner during this pandemic. The staff were very nice. The inn offered breakfast and coffee. I stayed in the suit that had a living area and bedroom area. Upon first glance it was nice and very roomy. It seemed clean and there were plenty of towels and bathroom amenities. Throughout the day I noticed a smell of cats. My sinuses started to get a little irritated, but I thought 'surely it's not cats'. I'm not allergic, but the smell in the room was off. My friend on the floor above notices the smell in her room. The next day we contemplated leaving. A cat had sprayed the nice chairs in the room and I found cat food scattered about. I let the housekeeper clean while we were away. They didn't make the bed. The sheet was balled up from me sleeping. It was just the top blanket that was nice and tucked with the pillows adorned. The air conditioner wouldn't cool the room. It was snowing outside and I toyed with the idea of just opening the balcony door. They did have a neat game room. PAC MAN, pool, and a shooting target game. read more

By far one of the best service I have ever had in my life hands down. Staff is extremely fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel like at home and comfortable. Lost my keys for 2+ hours until I finally found them and they threw in a little bear for us for all the troubles. Continuing to ask if there's anything Roosevelt staff could do on top of my missing keys. Helped look as well without any asking. I also wanted to switch rooms since I did not want to be by smokers next to us on the balcony and the staff switched our room to the very end without any questions. First time to the area and the reviews and photos were good. However we were very disappointed and forfeited our last night without a refund. The room was labeled as non-smoking but the room smelled of cigarettes badly and had an ashtray on the balcony. The bathroom was so small you had to straddle the toilet to shut the door. No iron,ironing board, etc. in addition we are senior citizens and they put us right across the hall from a game room which had screaming wild kids. If you're just looking for a bed and don't want any luxuries then you might like it. We ended up moving 20 miles away to Rapid City with an incredible room for half the price. read more

The Inn is so cute. Friendly staff and nice decor. Our room was very nice and had a teddy bear on the bed as advertised. We visited during an October snow storm so only one restaurant in town was open. The drive up to the parking lot was precarious. Beds were clean. The game room was very nice. Something that most hotels don't have. The only downside was the small selection for breakfast. As one dissatisfied hotel guest noted "this breakfast is all carbs, there is not protein." I made Reservation through Bookings.com for 3 room 4 nights each. Got all my conformation everything is good. We drive from Washington State to meet Family from Wisconsin. We Try checking in they only have 2 of the 3 rooms and are sold out the rest of the week. The lady at the Front desk tells us this isn't the first time this has happened and yet they still do Business with Bookings.com. so now im stays a mile away from the rest of my Family for our Vacation. Stayed here for a night in the off season for tourism so it was very quiet. Appears to be a family run hotel, everyone was very nice. When we got to our room I noticed the door would not secure they quickly moved us into and even nicer room that was available. The breakfast in the morning was quite nice, consisted of small cheese omelettes, sausage links, waffles, toast or bagels and an assortment of cereals along with juices or coffee. About the only negative I can come up with was the parking situation. During the busy season this could be problematic. I would suggest driving up the hill and around back for more space to load/unload. Would say again if in the area, pricing was reasonable for what we got. read more

We stayed in the Standard 1K room, which for some reason was the exact same price as the Queen for the days we needed accommodation. I am not complaining! The room was a good size, with the bed and usual television and dresser, side-table combination, but also a raised nook by the window with space for a table and two chairs. I happily spent time in this window-seat with a good view of the interesting touristy shops in the area while reading a book or tapping on the laptop. The bathroom had a large tub with jets that unfortunately we never had time to try out. The room also had a fridge, microwave, and DVD player. There is a helicopter tour business right across the street that made me hesitate a minute before making my reservations. I shouldn't have worried, because I didn't hear any noise before ten o'clock in the morning and it was interesting to watch the helicopters landing. I recommend the mini-golf shop across the street, next to the wax museum, because the gentleman that runs the shop gave us really really good advice for seeing nature in the area. The next morning we used one of his recommended routes and saw bison grazing by the side of the road, one of my favorite moments on the trip. Another attraction is the Big Time Pizza shop, independent but attached to the Inn. read more

The bathroom vanity had very little counter space to keep personal toiletries, and there were no shelves or hooks. Dresser had broken handles. Elevator didn't work. The parking was horrible. We went to the night time lighting ceremony for Mount Rushmore, and by the time we returned about 10 PM, there were NO spaces left in the small parking lot. Thankfully, we checked in before going to the Rushmore lighting & a late night dinner. One of the bedspreads had something on it, and the hide-a-bed bedding had not been cleaned. (It was obvious.). I reported it the next morning & staff thanked me for letting them know. I did not make a scene about it. Overall a decent place, and serves its purpose being CLOSE to Rushmore. Here are the facts: Rooms are musty and small. The bathrooms are small enough you cannot close the door when utilizing the facilities. Hot water is iffy. I watched a woman wait for an hour for someone to show up to check them in. The coffee and hot breakfast is not guaranteed in the am - which is fine since the coffee could clean a toilet. The positives: Great location near Rushmore. Somewhat affordable but still 3x their daily rate for sturgis bike rally. Opinions: Id honestly camp in a tent before I stayed here again. My husband and I went on a vacation in Keystone (May 1-5, 2017) not realizing it wasn't quite the season yet and it was fantastic. Joel and Gabriel at the Rosy Inn were terrific and helped with anything we needed. The renovations so far are beautiful. The price is fabulous, especially for a tourist town.
