The front desk and other staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping is by request but you can also easily ask for items at the front desk like trash bags, toilet paper, etc. The pool was fairly nice (water was pretty chilly and the tile outside the pool was very slippery when wet) but the hot tub was closed for maintenance sadly. We really wish there had been an outdoor area with a table or lounge furniture to be able to sit outside in the morning or evenings. We stayed in the more rustic rooms with outside entry. The door never seemed to latch/seal well and was loud. Beds were comfortable enough but moved a lot and the A/C worked overtime to keep the room cool. We didn't hear much from other rooms or from outside. The towels are very small and it should be standard to include a few more (especially for a two bed room). While parking is limited, it's convenient to be able to park outside your room for the most part. Hot water was good for the most part--there was one night where the shower would not stay hot but I think maybe a lot of people were using it at the same time. It was nice to have breakfast included but it doesn't start until 7am--this was too late if you want to get an early start to any of the area parks. It would be nice for it to start at 6:00 or 6:30am. While there's a coffee maker in the rooms, it's a small cup and would be nice if coffee in the lobby/breakfast area was also available earlier (before 7:00am).

Could it use a refresh/update inside? Sure, but what other place at their price point couldn't? Would we have liked a microwave in the room and breakfast? Sure, but we knew that's not what they had and that was fine. Each time we were in the office, it was a pleasant 15 minute affair with small talk, local information and just amazingly pleasant staff. Took 2 steps out our door, looked left, and could see the presidents' faces in the distance. The AC worked well, the beds and refrigerator were fine.

BE AWARE that this is an OLD property, as most/many of the hotels in the surrounding area are. So, you're not going to get a large, sprawling lobby, elegant decor, shiny new furnishings, etc. The air conditioning unit is a bit noisy, but it works. That being said, it is evident that the owners have invested themselves in making the most of what they have, with comfortable bedding, the addition of mini fridges and microwaves to the rooms, and a coffee/tea bar in the lobby stocked with fresh coffee all day. Most importantly, the rooms are CLEAN! Everything is in good repair and clean, and that's what matters most! This place offers a comfortable and enjoyable stay for your trip to Mt. Rushmore. And yes, as many others have mentioned, you can view Mt. Rushmore from the property, which is a nice bonus!

The Roosevelt Inn was clean, quiet, and had updated rooms. We had two rooms: a king room with balcony and a two-queen room. The king room had more space and a larger bathroom with a walk-in shower. The two-queen room was more cramped (not surprising) and had a smaller bathroom with a tub-shower combo. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast, which was included, included cold cereal, oatmeal with several toppings, eggs, sausage patties, and potatoes. There was also a machine that made pancakes. There were also several types of bread to toast. The juice machine had a couple different juices and the regular and decaf coffees were good. A lactose-free/non-dairy milk would have been nice. The hotel also had a swimming pool, a game room, and laundry facilities. It was walking distance to several restaurants including Halley's, a pizza place, Subway, bagel place, coffee, and a wine bar.

Ashley and Reeva (super nice gals) couldn't have been more accommodating. I'd go back again just to visit with them. Nice walk to downtown. Great cocktails at the Red Garter Saloon and dinner at The Ruby Rose. Enjoyed everything about the trip except the bugs. At least they didn't bite
