(It is really 3 3/4 stars, just not quite 4.)…read more I wanted to love this place: good reviews, not a chain, and a location that worked for me. And there are positives: It has a nice retro vibe, and it is cute, clean, and seems well maintained. However.... Room 9 smells like an old stale ashtray. When I asked the person who checked us in if we could have a no smoking room, he said that room 9 was a no smoking room. It was midnight, I was tired so we took the smelly room. Later I woke up and started the air-conditioner because the room had become very warm. Turning on the air-conditioner caused a massive blast of stale tobacco air to fill the room. It was so strong I was nauseated. (Note: Thirty years ago I was a heavy smoker. I have a pretty high tolerance for the smell of my formerly beloved cigarettes, stale or otherwise.) And.... The guy at the desk told us his "credit card machine was down" and we would need to pay in cash. I offered to pay by card in the morning. No, didn't think it would be working then. I didn't really buy it. Never got a receipt for the cash. Maybe it was true, but to be honest I felt scammed. The guy was nice enough, though quite insistent that we pay in cash. My apologies if it really was a one time thing. Overall, I do actually recommend this motel, but before you make a reservation or check in, get confirmation that you will be able to pay by credit card and that your room is not saturated with stale tobacco if those things are important to you.

I wanted to stay somewhere quiet, and out of the mainstream of tourists, vacationers, and without the Cedar Point crowd. This was the perfect place. I really enjoyed the stay. Don't let this small, quaint motel fool you. The rooms are well kept, clean, and spacious. They're updated and comfortable. They have pillow top beds, with plenty of pillows. Flat screen TV's (mine was mounted on the wall). Plenty of room in the dresser. My room had a refrigerator and microwave oven. Bathrooms are clean and modern, with marble tiled showers. I was very comfortable at the Plaza Motel. Mr. Das, the proprietor, is a very nice man. I quickly felt that he was more of a friend, and like I'd known him for a long time. We had many great conversations. He is very attentive to the cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the motel. He had cleaning routines that I haven't seen at much more expensive hotels/motels. Overall, I'd recommend this motel to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced, clean, cozy place to stay. I think our society has gotten too used to pricey, trendy, big name hotels, and has forgotten about these money-saving, privately owned, nostalgic motels of days gone by. If you're in the Clyde, OH area, and want to save money, be treated like a valued customer, enjoy a truly quiet and comfortable motel, and take a trip back to yester-year, before the times of the huge, expensive, corporate hotels, spend a night, or a week, at the Plaza Motel. There's also a neat little diner right down the street, and an East of Chicago Pizza right across the street. Thank you, Mr. Das, for a great stay, and your hospitality. I'll be back.

Absolutely the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed at. Had to switch rooms three times... All…read morethree rooms were disgusting. We ended up leaving and driving 2 hours to another hotel that had vacancy in Pennsylvania. Unclean bathrooms, stains in the bed, dirty smells.... That could only be described as smoke with a hint of feet, a single hard boiled egg, and years of mushrooms growing in the air vents..... Will NEVER return to this location. Newly renovated? They did a TERRIBLE job. There are mistakes all over the place. It looks like whoever they hired was blind. Renovated part of the room, but the showers look like they're from 100 years ago. The showers were the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in a hotel. To the point that I was scraping Lord knows how many years worth of soap scum off of the shower walls with the hotel key that was black and brown... Oh and then there was the pubic hairs all over the toilet. All three showers had soap scum on it, mixed in with years of shampoo and liquid skin flakes. There was trash in the trash can, we didn't get a picture of that one unfortunately..... We did get the picture however of what I can only hope was barbecue sauce all over the mattress.... Though we know it wasn't..... But in our heads there was a barbecue eating contest going on in the room and somebody spilled it all over the bare mattress for some reason.... Even on Google it appears that the owner only replies the five star ratings.. never replies to the negative reviews I would like to add that we tried to stay here after a 12-hour drive as we were moving across country. After the third gross hotel room we went back down to the front desk and immediately checked out Due to a bunch of events in the area and then in Cleveland having half the city with no power we ended up having to drive two plus hours at 2:00 in the morning to get to Pennsylvania around 5:00 5:30 a.m. before we were able to settle down and get some rest. Since we had to continue driving for another 2 and 1/2 hours the following hotel we stayed at the next day was not enough miles away from the one we stayed at on this night, so instead of being reimbursed from my employer for the stay (moving cross country employer was paying for the move) I had to pay out of pocket which was another unexpected expense. How do we been able to stay at this hotel I would have had no problem..... However I don't know when my last hepatitis and tetanus shot was so we chose not to.. Do yourself a favor don't stay in Ohio at all if you can avoid it... But definitely not the Fremont area... definitely not this Holiday inn. If however you decide you would like to stay at this Holiday inn I would definitely bring hand sanitizer, maybe a bottle of two of bleach, something toward evil spirits away like a cross, a hazmat clean suit, and definitely would make sure you go get updated vaccines like tetanus shots after..... Unless you're fully immune than you're probably okay. My dad always told me whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger however we weren't taking the chance... Not today Ohio....

This place books up so you better plan ahead!…read more We booked this place a few weeks ahead of our trip and luckily had a room for two nights instead of the three over labor day weekend, but our fault for not planning ahead! The ROOMS We stayed in the Stables, in a room with two queens, we just ended up pushing them together in the middle of the room, which worked fine! The room itself is huge, nice big bathroom as well, with a big jacuzzi tub, so that's fun! The decor is nice and nicely diplayed. TV could be bigger to fill the wall, but is a fine size and we didn't really come to stay in the room & watch TV much anyways. I like the thoughtfulness of the two mini dasani waters in the mini fridge! That is super helpful bc the faucet water tastes very earthy. Not enough outlets, I will say that much. Need a power strip or something b/c the outlets near the beds are just kinda far from the bed and the outlets closer are used by the bedside lamps. So just kinda an inconvenience, but not a big deal. The TV and coffee maker also can't both be plugged in a the same time, so again, not enough outets it seems. The TV itself ... needs replaced. For the love of technology that thing is ancient! The remote didn't work well at all, it was the kind that has a million buttons and you have to figure out which buttons turn on the TV and which buttons turn on the actual service that allows you to watch the TV lol oh sheesh. Plus YOU CAN'T STREAM! We had to use our laptop to watch what we wanted to b/c the TV said it needed an ethernet cable to get hooked up to internet. So I did feel like I was at my grandmas house in terms of the TV technology, watching dish available programs like NCIS and the Drew Barymoore show.. -___- This was my actual one main gripe about the room and stay itself. Like the bathroom mini toiletries available. They def seem high quality, so that's nice! Like that the room comes with mini travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion and a few makeup remover wipes as well as has larger size shampoo, conditioner and body wash attached to the shower wall. The towels could use some fabric softener, they were definitely stiff and rough. Toilet paper was angel soft, so that could be higher quality. Very rough. So it seems like some little details are thought of while others might be overlooked. The Stables themselves are in a quite good location actually, I do prefer how it is a bit away from everything and has super cute little seating area with string lights behind the building! WITH a little walking trail that circles around and up to the pool house. The CASTLE The Castle itself is super cute, I love how there's tons of paved walkways around the entire grounds. LOTS of beautiful plants and flower beds all around the grounds. The aesthetic is just beautiful. The lobby has coffee, tea, snacks and drinks for sale as well as some small nick nacks and toys as well. I DEF took advantage of their reasonably priced mini wines and sodas to grab for the room. AMENITIES Great amentiites, not too much not too little. Not too many amenities to make it a kid-palooza, which keeps it nice and quiet at pretty much all hours. We were here on a Labor Day weekend and it seems like everyone gets out and about to go hiking and do other things throughout the day time. We chose to stay on the castle grounds the entire stay, which was nice to not have to drive anywhere. Love that there's pickle ball courts, lots of paved walkways to get some exercise, nothing is tooooo far away from each other to feel like an actual workout lol. I love that there's a pool and hot tub on site for all cabin use. The mercantile shop attached to the grill is a nice touch! Also love that they sell lots of quirky nick nacks + local beers in single cans + the local wine as well! Maybe if there were just like one or two more little things to do on the grounds it would be perfect for those that really don't want to have to drive anywhere once on site. Maybe a few oversized yard cames somewhere, a lawn chess or ... some other little things to keep the castle dwellers occupied in the quiet time on the grounds. The Copper Mug itself was really awesome, so they'll get an extravagant review separately! But very happy with them, especially as the only restaurant available on site and most likely the best thing within anything close to a short driving distance. Overall Great stay! Few recommendations for little upgrades, just to put the cherry on top of the "luxury" adjective used in the description. Overall great place to stay, we will be back in the future to stay in the castle itself!

I really wanted to like this place as the grounds are beautiful…read more On the positive side, the staff was great and did what they could. The person working the front desk was friendly and looked like she was doing 3 jobs at once. The bartender was fast efficient and made great cocktails. Some of our concerns go to more managerial issues. As an example, the heat in our room did not work and our room was as cold as the outside. Being middle of January we were literally sitting in our rooms in hats, gloves and coats. The staff did bring up some space heaters to help raise the temperature, which eventually worked. The wine pairing dinner we attended was just ok, but at 70 dollars a person I would expect more than using small plastic cups for the pairings. The food itself was really good, so my compliments to the chef. If the room price was more reasonable and not 450 per night I would be less critical. The cost just didn't match the expectation
