It had been a long days drive: we started in Fort Worth, and planned to stop in El Paso. However we changed out minds and stopped in Van Horn. Although we planned to stay elsewhere, we saw the Red Roof Inn sign, and decided to check it out. Laura was at the front desk. She listened to our needs and made recommendations regarding rooms and rates. She was not only professional but had a great sense of humor. The hotel common areas and grounds were well kept and clean. Our room was large and spotless. WiFi connection was solid. My only disappointment was in the complimentary breakfast provided the next morning. There were fountain juices, breads for toasting, apples,a small assortment of cereals, and two 'make your own waffles' waffle-makers with easy to read and follow directions posted by each waffle maker. Syrup, butter, and jelly packets were plentiful. But no milk? A covered chafing dish had a flame burning underneath but lifting the cover revealed...nothing but steam. Eggs and bacon to go with the waffles would have made this stay perfect Subtract the incomplete breakfast, our brief stay at Van Horn's, Red Roof Inn was outstanding. Best Red Roof Inn I've ever seen. The staff under the manager, Cathy has been incredible. I co-own a construction company and have been staying here since the end of September 2023 (it is now April 2024). We (the owners) went to every hotel in town in order to find the best accommodations for ourselves and our crew. Red Roof Inn was actually the last hotel we went to. Great price, clean/large rooms, complimentary conference room, free continental breakfast, coin laundry on site, outdoor area with grills, kitchenettes with large fridge all made it worthwhile from a business stand point. Our crew have been very happy with the accommodations as well. They can cook in their rooms and send more money home to their families. Now about Cathy, the manager. She goes above and beyond and takes personal pride in making this Red Roof Inn the very best it can be. There is always someone cleaning, sweeping, mopping the hallways, dining area, lobby, etc. The staff is courteous and work diligently to make sure we are comfortable and our needs are addressed quickly. The cleaning staff is efficient and helpful. Cathy works tirelessly with her staff to provide a cohesive and positive experience for all the guests. I am a educator/trainer and I see how well she trains her staff and her patience as she does so. If you want a decent, clean and affordable place to lay your head at night, come see Cathy. I don't see why this place has such low reviews. It's pretty much a place to wash your ass, lay your head and hit the road. If you stop here you are either coming from somewhere or going somewhere because there is absolutely nothing to do around town. Check in was easy and it was nice to have a covid award continental breakfast with individually wrapped bagels and single serving hard boiled eggs for the road in the morning after check out. read more

This place was really dingy. Newly remodeled rooms consist of plastic wood flooring and a new sink/ vanity. The rest of the room was very old and run down. There were finger smudges all over the headboard, TV, remote, mirrors etc. The room definitely had not been wiped down in along time. The towels were stained with oil spots, the bathtub was chipped and very dirty. The bathtub also had a large sticker on the bottom of it to cover up previous damage. Most baseboards in the room were missing, and all the wiring was on the outside of the walls in large metal tubes. Check out the pictures I posted to see what Im talking about. I personally will never stay in a Red Roof Inn after this experience, I had no idea their standards were so low. But if your not picky about cleanliness this hotel is probably fine if you just need a place to sleep for one night. But be aware its not "newly renovated", nor is it clean or well kept. read more

The room looks clean but it smelled musty/moldy. Our bed was pretty firm, borderline rock hard. Some dead bugs on the bathroom floor. Grim lighting in the hallway & in the room. Comes with free WiFi & breakfast. Perhaps the saddest breakfast I've had on this trip--cereals, waffles, bagels, expired hard boiled eggs, rotting apples & oranges. Bland orange juice. As advertised, this Red Roof has remodeled their rooms. We've stayed here twice once on the way from CA to Austin and then on the way back. The king sized beds were very comfortable. Each room had a small couch, microwave and small refrigerator. The decor was dark wood and neutral floors, nothing obnoxious to keep you awake at night. Everything was super clean with extra white and crisp sheets. Though it's next to the freeway, it was quiet. AND it has the best road motel coffee I've had. No need to hunt down a coffee shop for good coffee. read more

Great customer service. We had a last minute one night stay and the staff was very kind and welcoming. They were very helpful, especially coming off the road after a 10 hour drive in the rain. No issues with the rooms, everything seemed clean and the room had everything we needed at least. There were partitions at the front desk to ensure protection against COVID-19 but the few staff members we saw didn't wear masks. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights to visit Guadalupe Mountains national park. Overall, our stay was pleasant, the hotel facility was ok/clean, the staff were friendly and professional as mentioned by few other reviewers here except for one i.e. the manager (Cathy Allen) who is rude and unprofessional during checkout (will spare you the details). I am giving the lowest rating possible because of her arrogant attitude and unprofessional behaviour, otherwise, my review rating would be much higher. This is the case where one person spoils the reputation built by the hardwork and dedication of a group of people. Though this town is very small, surprisingly, there are plenty of other choices for hotels in the area within a similar price range so I would highly recommend avoiding this place if you can. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I was expecting a lousy low budget experience, but I actually felt I got a lot of value with my room. I paid only ~$80 for my room and it was clean and quiet. The check in/check/out process was smooth and quick and everybody at the front desk was nice and pleasant. We also took advantage of the breakfast and felt the food was of good quality, fresh, and a great way to get our day started. No complaints at all! This was my first stay at a Red Roof Inn and I now have a pretty good impression. I would stay here again or consider any other Red Roof Inn next time I travel. read more

We were on a cross country road trip and after a very long day of driving we stopped at this hotel. It looks very old and run down, however... the room was very clean and the woman at the front desk was the sweetest, most accommodating person we have ever encountered while checking in at any hotel. While on a road trip to Austin we needed a place to stop at late at night. This was the best price we could find on our way for such a short notice. They are dog friendly which was very nice. [not having to sneak our little 10lb chihuahua] There was a lot of construction going on around the building so it wasn't super clean looking. The pool area was closed and certain rooms were blocked off. I suggest this place if you're in need of a quick place to crash. It was kind of noisy only because other guests had large dogs that liked to bark. But overall for the price and convenience of being dog friendly it was good. read more

This place is awful. My bathtub was full of black dirt. I asked if they could clean it. They rinsed it out. Now the bathtub won't drain. It has several inches of water standing in murky water. The front desk said they will not fix it. So after driving 8 hours we can't take a shower. We will never stay at a Red Roof Inn again. An awful experience. Spent an extended amount of time here and I couldn't be happier or more thankful that it was in this hotel. The staff were wonderful and absolutely amazing, the rooms were clean, the wifi was good and the place really felt nice and cozy. Got in around 1am CST (only 11pm PST where we are from in Phx) and my husband was instantly greeted by the friendly employee at the front desk (Timothy). He was nice, quick and pleasant for it being so late his time. We parked, unloaded and started to walk towards our room and noticed the parking lot was packed -- must not be too bad if everyone is here, I thought. The outside still looked to be the original building and stucco, but it has some fresh paint to make it look nicer. I made a little joke to my husband about how the rooms were probably renovated eons ago and that's how they get away with saying they're newer, but I was proven wrong when we got to our room. The hallways smelled a little funny, but it didn't smell bad, if that makes sense? I'm not in the hotel hospitality business, but it can't be that hard to have an air freshener to make guests feel more homey or welcome. The rooms, though, look SO great after the remodel! They're decorated neutrally and are modern. The furniture is new and so are the floors, paint and even the tiles in the bathroom. The bed is the typical hotel kind of hard mattress (not like a fluffy cloud like mine at home), but for being a harder mattress it really was pretty comfortable. What I mean by that is that it doesn't feel like a piece of plywood covered in sheets.. Which was pretty nice. Sheets were clean, smelled nice and the pillows were so comfy! The free breakfast is definitely an added plus, especially when you get to make your own waffles! We went right at the very end and still had waffles, cereal, muffins, coffee and juice to enjoy. While this isn't a 4 star hotel in general, it's a good 4 stars for what you're paying for. read more

My partner got eaten up by bugs from this inn. I got multiple bites but she had a bad reaction to them and they look pretty bad. The room appeared to be clean-ish but there was a dead small roach on the floor, a mildewy odor and dusty furniture. The bed was big but real firm. Real dim lighting in the room and hallways, felt a tad creepy. On the way to breakfast in the morning, there was water leaking from some AC units that made a big puddle of run off water that has turned the cement floor a huge of green. We avoided it and so did other guests... It looked slippery. The breakfast was disappointing, the only hot thing was the make your own waffle. The hard boiled eggs had a spoiled taste and the apples were rotten. They had cereal, bagels (was the best part), toast, oranges and watered down OJ (there was a weird syrup-y pulp at the end . read more

We were traveling through with our three kids and needed somewhere to sleep. It was the biggest mistake stopping here. Once we got into the room we found multiple dead bugs all throughout. Even in the bedding!! The floors, sheets and towels were dirty. We refuse to allow our children to sleep in that kind of condition so we left. I have never had such a horrible experience with red roof inns. It is not worth stopping if your passing through. read more

This place looked like a set from The Walking Dead. We knew it was under construction and some construction activity wouldn't have been a problem. This place seemed condemned. There were 4 cars at the motel - total. No activity or signs of life. The place was beyond disrepair or under construction. It seemed as if the plague had struck or the zombie apocalypse was upon us. Rather than signs of building or remodeling it appeared to be looted. There were 2 employees I saw - total. Neither of which were helpful. Breakfast in the morning was clearly leftovers they've been trotting out after microwaving every morning. There was no coffee with breakfast. When it was time to check out the one employee who was able to handle that disappeared for an extended period as we stood at the desk waiting for checkout. read more

Plenty of parking. Needed a place to lay my head for the night. Saw this place had just renovated their rooms. Had no problem parking and the desk clerk Sonny was helpful with my transaction. Got up the next morning and there was plenty of food for the hotels Continental breakfast. Closed out my room and got on with the rest of my journey. Definitely recommend this place again. I was able to use the AAA discount and it didn't break the bank. So if you have stayed here in the past and it wasn't good give it a try. The rooms were clean and felt comfortable. We stayed here on our drive from Phoenix to Alabama. After staying at a beautiful red roof inn in New Orleans we had great expectations that sadly weren't totally met. I'll give the positives first, our room felt secure, the TV worked great. There were no loud noises, and the hot water was great. Our advice for improvements, it says it's recently Renovated.....nope!!! The grounds and the rooms need some serious improvements not just paint to cover over things. Take the sad free breakfast away and use that money for room improvements. read more

The only positive thing I can say was that the General Manager Kathy went over and above helping us out by finding our cat who was hiding under a bed. She also fixed the door handle that morning. Eeew! Rennovated....it does appear so. New furnitue. Small fridge w an actual small freezer. Microwave. Iron, ironing board. Also, burn holes in blankets in non smoking room. Soiled bedspread on one bed. No mattress pads, just sheet over very uncomfortable mattress. Eeew again. Not enough blankets to stay warm. No extras available. Uneven floor tiles. Cold room on a very cold windy night; inadequate heating system. Reservation was for ground floor, but on arrival an indifferent desk clerk said.."Nope & no elevator" when I began making phone calls she found a room. Wish I'd moved on. Parking lot crumbling. These people put on a band aid or two but apparently dont have the money to maintain this large cheap motel. Brr-rr. read more

Overall is its mediocre. It's clean and, although understaffed, everyone was courteous. This was my first stay at a Red Roof and based upon this I'd have to say it could be a crap shoot with other locations. This is basically a run-down Ramada inn (Ramada's name is still on the phones in the room) that I guess Red Roof is rehabbing. The facility is gradually being remodeled, but not very well. The new paint job is bad. It's slapped on and nothing was taped so there's paint on metal fixtures. You can hear tiles pop because they are not properly laid. And like the other reviews say its heyday was years ago. The pool is full of dirt. The court yard is over grown and not maintained. Part of the Courtyard and Conference rooms are storing building materials. And the breakfast is all carbs, no proteins in the form of eggs or meat. I'm pretty sure the front desk people have to set everything up and then get back to the desk. But to be honest its value is all relative to the other locations in Van Horn. Price wise this is on par with Motel 6 and some of the local Motels. read more

We stayed here with our dog as a last minute late night stay. The staff was really friendly and dog friendly s they had dog bags and trash bins in the area. We were also able to park right outside the window to the room. There were also patrols from the sheriff every now and then to make you feel secure. The shower head was amazing and the shower felt great! The room was clean and the bed was comfortable! Next time through we would be considering here as a stay. read more
