I ate here years ago...it's nice to see that it is still around. I remember the lamb vindaloo was fantastic...very hot....but very good.

One of the best places in Surbiton for a curry, I miss getting take aways from there.

I have heard a few people describe this place as the best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Whilst I…read moredon't think I've eaten in enough to warrant corroborating that statement, I can say I ate here recently and it was pretty damn good! What I particularly like about Shahi Tandoori is that it is split into two quite separate spaces, one side is the restaurant and one is the takeaway. This is genius! There's nothing more annoying than people wandering through while you're eating to pick up their order, letting a draft in and spoiling the ambiance of the restaurant. Well Shahi has it covered. Food-wise, the side dishes are all great...I particularly like the Bombay Aloo, the Sag Paneer and the Onion Bhajis- delicious! I can also recommend the Vegetable Balti and Chicken Tikka Masala. Since this place is just around the corner, we often pop down to pick up a few side dishes to go with a home-cooked curry and they never look at us funny, despite our paltry order! I like them.

You can never have enough good quality Indian restaurants (so says I), without doubt Shahi Tandoori…read moredeserves to be added to that category. It's located in an odd place at the bottom of Ditchling Rise, because of the location you might never have come this way, I really would recommend it though. 'Shahi' is a little bit cheaper then the more central Indian restaurants (and take aways, they do both). The food is also of a very good quality; I had the rogan josh and passanda, both of which I could eat 7 days a week. The area isn't the nicest, the decor is a little dated, but it's a fantastic place filled with Indian charm (and food).

Ok, where shall I start?!…read more After just coming from lunch there, about an hour ago I am still dizzy. The MSG is still affecting me from the chicken. It hit us about 10 minutes in to lunch. My wife and myself watch our diet: we stay away from sugar, wheat, starch, preservatives, except VitC (ascorbic acid), E-numbers and aggressive lectins such as in eg potato. It means that we have great skin, have stable personalities, clear vision, high vitality... all the perks of being exceptionally healthy. Most of the time, if the restaurant we are visiting has a capable team in the kitchen, these factors can be met with incredible ease! If a restaurant (like Joy) does not aspire to making marinades, preparing sauces, cutting fresh veg, then they can hardly be called a restaurant. ...since the art of cooking is essentially why a restaurant even exists! Our experience today showed clearly that these topics overwhelmed the staff considerably. The single one positive was the effort made by the waiter that finally understood what we were talking about. The downside of that was a recommendation for chicken and lamb tikka and vegetable curry that was really lacking any substance of flavour. I didn't dare ask how long the veg had been frozen for! I mean seriously!! Rice flour to make pappadums?! Wheatflour in the sauces!? Sugar in every sauce!? (all explained by the staff after questioning the kitchen!) This is by no means a good standard of food preperation in any way. Any chef that knows what he/she is doing does not cook (main courses) with wheat or sugar period, let alone chemical additives! I really feel that the previous reviews dramatically distort the quality of food and services on offer. Definately a "no-go" if you want well prepared indian food. The one-star is because we liked the water, the clean glasses and warm plates.

The food has always been very good, wide selection to choose from. Its not the cheapest for…read moretakeaways, but we've never been disappointed. Can be a little slow with delivery.
