As an…read moreout-of-town'er working in Fairbanks over the summer, I used their tenting sites to car-camp in my Toyota 4-Runner while waiting to move into my rental house. At $25 you can't beat it, especially considering the astronomical hotel prices in Fairbanks. To that end, the campground served it's purpose in my "just to get by" situation. Unfortunately the shower facilities were closed during my stay because they were being renovated. I wasn't happy to discover the closed-off showers & restrooms because it was't mentioned on the website. As a matter of fact, the website still touts the showers as an available amenity, and the reservation confirmation email includes the entry codes for the digital combination locks on the shower building doors. It wasn't until my attempts to get into the shower building when I learned that they were closed for renovation. (The combo code was no good). That irked me, but it was't a deal-breaker. I had access to showers at my work as well as a local gym, so I adapted and kept on camping. This probably won't be the situation for other campers though, so the campsite owners are leaving themselves wide-open for confrontations with rightly-infuriated customers. Don't worry about trying to use the Wi-FI. If you do happen to be in an area of the campsite where it actually connects to your device, it does little more than infuriate you with an unusable snail's pace. Then it kicks you off and tells you that you have the wrong password. Then the password magically works again just long enough to disappoint you with its slow uselessness. But hey. It's a campground. Don't get on the internet. Build a campfire and swat mosquitos like mother nature intended. The main area of the campground, (mostly RV sites and a few tent sites), is clean and quiet. The double-letter tenting sites are in a separate section, much closer to the road. I skipped around the different tenting sites from evening to evening just to check things out. I prefer the single-letter sites that are in the main campground area, but the double-letter sites aren't too bad either. They all served their purpose of giving me a quiet place to park so I could get a good night's sleep. If the place had been much more than $25 for a tent site, I doubt I would have stayed there very long.

EVERYTHING!! Less than 6' in many spaces. Some spaces, like the ones we always get put into) are so (narrow with single trees in between, that you can't use your awning. The hookups for water and sewage are weird for our setup and cross over, it's not well thought out. And there is very limited room for an extra vehicle if it's not a compact car. I always struggle to fit my truck in our spot without blocking the folks next to us. Or sticking out into the road. I hate being rude, so I am really particular about making certain I'm not in anyone else's space. The staff have always been helpful for us, no complaints there. All said I would not stay here unless A; you're the type who don't like camp fires and privacy OR B; you're only staying so you can see the sites and have a safe place to sleep at night.

We had an appointment for 2pm-3:30pm. In reality we were a couple minutes late and after photo ops/changing it was closer to 2-4pm. Allow yourself closer to 45-60 minutes driving from Fairbanks in winter when it's slippery and icy roads. As of February 2025 the Google GPS was accurate although I would recommend screenshotting instructions just in case. Going back home I had trouble finding a signal until a little further down. I really appreciate they had extra gear! I didn't find snow pants at Walmart. But they had snow bibs, parkas, snow boots, gloves etc. There was another small group of 4 at our time slot. But each tour is 2 people. One person gets to sit and the other can stand up to "drive" in the back. We started off with a short oral history of Alaskan huskies and dog sledding in Alaska. Then we had 10-15 minutes to play with the dogs. Most of them were very friendly. If you gently call their name they'll come out of their house for pets. Some were a little shy (pandemic pups or naturally reserved). Then we were shown a demonstration on how to stand on the sled and use the drag mat and the brake. Next was a demo on how to harness the dogs. Our tour guide was Jesse! He was awesome. I really enjoyed talking to him. He was very patient answering my questions about his dogs. After we personally harnessed one dog each Jesse took care of the rest and chose the order of the sled hook up. We stopped about 2-3 times for photo ops. During the first stop (about the halfway point) you get the option of switching from the sitting sled to the standing driving sled. Not very strenuous. But lots of fun! Highly recommend the snow pants in winter. I took a two steps off the path and ended up calf deep in snow. The dogs start barking and getting a little impatient when you stop too long. They really are well taken care of and love to run! Jesse unharnessed the dogs at the end of the tour. We were able to go into the cabin to take off gear. There's also merchandise, hot cocoa, and please tip your tour guides. They even include Venmo QR codes which is perfect for our increasingly cashless society. Highly recommend Black Spruce for dog sledding in the Fairbanks area!

The Alaska Club - Terrible Customer Service and Dishonest Practices…read more My experience with The Alaska Club has been nothing short of awful. Their customer service is unprofessional, relentless, and completely dismissive of member requests. After signing up, I was repeatedly called by their sales rep--even after telling them multiple times to stop contacting me. It got so bad that I eventually had to block their number. When I joined, I signed a contract stating I would pay $76 for my first month and had a two‑week trial period before committing to a year‑long membership. The agreement clearly stated that if I canceled within those two weeks, I would receive my $76 back. I canceled well within that window. What followed was four months of emails and phone calls just trying to get the refund I was promised. I finally received the $76, only to check my account later and see that they had taken it back. After everything, they still pulled the money from my account. This business operates with misleading practices and zero accountability. The constant calling, the runaround, and the refund fiasco make it clear that they do not value their members at all. Do not join. And if you're already a member, leave now.

Muzzy's dog sled is one of the best and exciting trips my wife and I ever had (we had other dog…read moresled tour before). We mushed through more than 100 miles of scenic Alaskan wildness in five days. Our five day dog mushing trip is definitely the experience of a lifetime. I recommend Muzzy's based three reasons: the owners, the dogs, and the route. Eric, our guide, is an amazing instructor and has made us feel like family. He is the main reason that we chose Muzzy's over other options. Right from the start when we spoke to Eric over the phone, he was very patient to address all our concerns. During our trip, he had also proven to be also very knowledgeable, instrumental, and down-to-earth. Jan, Eric's wife, is also an amazing host. If you want to learn how to shoot aurora pictures along the way, you should get a photography class from Jan beforehand. Jan offers photography classes and has won numerous prizes with her pictures. Muzzy's dogs are very friendly, gentle, and smart. Even though my wife and I had dogs before, our previous dogs were not as gentle as Muzzy's dogs. Every morning and evening, my wife and I helped to prepare food and feed the dogs. We spent more than six hours every day with the dogs and quickly had grown to love them so much by the end of tour that it was difficult to say good bye. The scenery along the route was phenomenal. During the trip, we camped overnight on a frozen pond, stayed in two rustic cabins, traversed on ice covered rivers, and even traveled to do grocery shopping at local stores with our dog teams. It was funny to see how other tourists keep taking pictures of us at those local stores. Suggestions: * Listen to Eric's instructions carefully in the beginning and ask questions. You do not want to run yourself and your dog team into ditches * If you are not an outdoorsy person, you probably want to tell Eric that you want to stay in a cabin instead of a camp. Camping overnight over a frozen pond was initially a shock to us who were not used to camping. However, it then became the most memorable experience and we learned to love it.

Eric was an awesome instructor, he had me harnessing and handling the dogs quickly. I am a huge "dog person" so getting to interact so closely with the dogs was a treat. Eric got us bundled up in their outer gear (wear polypropylene or wool base layer and a warm -not cotton- midlayer/my fleece "sweats" worked great). While on the sled Eric explained the techniques of mushing. After an hour or so he let both of us try our hands at driving the sled. AMAZING! Muzzy's is a family run business, you truly get individual attention and care, unlike some of the big sled dog places that herd you in and out. We felt like family! We will be coming back to Fairbanks and Muzzy's!
