This store is massive ans pretty crazy. Every week they have new sales on certain tag colored items. For example blue 50% off and white 25% off. Before you shop, you should know it is a CASH only establishment. This is the major sucky thing about this because you don't know how much you will need. This thrift store is filled with tons of clothes, toys, shoes, books, decor, and utensils. We found a little tike's trampoline practically brand new for $13. I mainly looked at the book section and I found a lot of books. Most were half off too. They had really great cheap finds. Last time I came and my sister found a really nice set of long boots. It is definitely worth a look. Sometimes high end items are priced way too high though so keep a look out on that. When we were checking out, the lady was super nice to me. She had great customer service skills. She talked about the books with me. We will be back soon! read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience. After discovering that my personal belongings were missing, They had been taken by an employee. The manager refused to check the cameras even to the cops!!! I called the police and filed a police report because I felt I had no other option. What made the situation even more upsetting was being told they were going to call the police on me after I reported what had happened. From my perspective, this situation was handled very poorly. I expected a thrift store that serves the community to take my concerns seriously and help resolve the issue, not make me feel like I was the problem. Because this matter is now being pursued through the proper channels, I'll let the facts speak for themselves. I hope the store reviews its policies and takes customer concerns more seriously in the future. The police officer said this thrift store is known for crime and low life employees and thieves. Then proceeded to tell me. I should never come back here because it's too dangerous so I'm passing the message of danger on to anybody who reads this. They will pray upon you. This use to be the BEST thrift when it was community thrift, since Red, white & blue has taken over it's gone downhill, prices are high especially for free donated items, plus they pull items weekly to be shipped out, it's very disorganized and messy now. Since I read reviews I also try to leave a review especially when you encounter great service by people like Mary at the counter and guys like Reese who's very helpful to me and my sister when we need something loaded in our car or something brought up front . All kinds of great items to choose from in every department. This is one of my favorite Michigan thrift stores! Everything is well organized, clean, and well stocked. Prices are reasonable with something's a bit over priced. I typically spend about $50-$70 here taking home 8-12 items. Color tag sales are always happening however I can't ever tell what is on sale until checking out since it isn't displayed as far as I can tell. The prices here are absolutely ridiculous. Whoever is doing the pricing has way too much time to sit and google every brand and mark them up to a price that's more expensive than pre owned online. This store would make more money if they didn't price out 80% of their customers because of greedy pricing. This was my first time at this thrift store. I was looking for candle stick holders for my wedding and they had a great selection! The workers moved the long line very quickly. This store has dramatically increased prices year over year. Board games were averaging prices between $2-$4 last year and now they are pricing them as high as $24. The issue is that they do not quality-control their merchandise and literally put defective items that visibly are non-functional on the sales floor. REALLY DISAPPOINTED. I wondered how Sunshine Thrift Store had fallen from a decent thrift store with some good pickings for clothes and housewares to a depressing dump with nothing but the rattiest dregs of thrifting. Half the damn store is empty space or ugly furniture that looks like it came from a deceased nonagenarian. Then I wandered down to Community Thrift Store at the other end of the same strip mall and saw where all the good stuff had migrated to. The clothes aisles are so long and teeming with stylish duds. I limited myself to one blue dress shirt though. The shoes aren't totally beat to sh*t. I got a $14 pair of Pumas still in good shape. If you see me out rocking them keep my secret and DO NOT tell people they were thrifted! Most thrift stores have a giant hoard of compact discs but it's 95% stuff you'd never want to take out of there. Not CTS! I picked up Joe Jackson's Look Sharp!, XTC's English Settlement, The Essential Bruce Springsteen (3 discs for $2.99), Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits, Supertramp's Breakfast in America, a New Order album, a Best of from The Black Crowes, a Crowded House Best Of, a Simon and Garfunkel album and a Sugar Helpless EP with 4 songs. I had to pay the same $1.99 for only 4 Bob Mould penned songs as one of the full lengths but I can't complain, what with that Springsteen set for 3 bones. I could've snagged a few more but I stopped myself there. (Yes, I still play CDs. My 02 Explorer has a 6 disc changer and my front desk at an apartment building job has me in a bit of a dead zone for my phone so I often listen to tunes on shiny silver discs plopped into a little boombox.) My sister makes these things called Joytoys where she deconstructs stuffed animals and dolls and reassembles them as crazy mishmashed creatures. I bought her a ton of raw materials here for that for Christmas. Big bags of plush toys for 3 and 4 dollars. Don't tell her if you see her before then. I also bought myself a mummy mask for next Halloween. I just decided a few days prior I'm going to be a mummy wrapped in CVS receipts next year and BOOM! there's a perfect mask for it. They also had an intriguing working rollercoaster model playset that was 3 feet high and 6 feet long for like $15. I thought of buying it for one of my cousins, but was unsure just how "working" it might be and how much of a pain to set up it was, so I passed on it. Still, a very cool conversation piece that I sent pics of to coaster enthusiast Eric S. They also had lots of awesomely cheesy thrift store paintings and a vintage General Halftrack doll (the old martini swilling baldie from Beetle Bailey) behind the counter for $25 but again I passed on all that. I ended up spending $66.60 at CTS, which I think is a record for one trip to a thrift store for me. (I might have bought furniture at one and spent more quite a few years ago; I don't exactly remember.) I got a couple of pics of a pretty evening sky when I was leaving, too. I have yet to wrap my head around WHY this thrift store is SO Popular! Went to this thrift store recently and wow, they're huge. Normally for a thrift store that would be a positive thing however it's a giant warehouse size rip off. Majority of their items are extremely expensive, so expensive in fact that you honestly could buy almost everything brand new for the same price. Clothing, decor, furniture, multimedia all overpriced. I was shocked that a thrift store could be so expensive. Was looking for nutcrackers because my fiancé collects and I can always find awesome ones to refresh... this locations cost $28 or more for a single nutcracker (small size!) would not waste a trip personally, but if you enjoy paying retail prices for used goods... this is your place! read more

Gratiot ave. has 5 or 6 thrift shops in a 5 mile span. Community thrift is the largest of all of them! St. Vincent de Paul is roughly the same size, but has much less inside of it. Community thrift is PACKED with just about anything you would want. This is definitely the place to go to look for coats; you'd be able to find something warm and leather here no problem. Pants? Last pair of pants I bought from here cost me 99-cents. They looked brand spankin' new! Though there's not as much furniture as other thrift shops, Community thrift has the absolute cheapest furniture ever. For example: I got my kitchen table from there. It's solid maple, and cost a grand total of $15! Beat that, Big Lots! Community also a lot of times has a great selection of MEDIA: records, cds, electronics in general. I once snagged a baggie full of old Game Boy games for $5, and it was the best $5 I ever spent (Final Fantasy Legends, anyone?) I have only two small complaints: 1: they close at 6pm. 2: they don't accept credit cards (but they have an ATM in the store. Still...) They still get five stars even though their hours suck. I'm a big thrift shopper and was out with friends today to check this place out. My friend raves about it, so I went in with high expectations. I was torn between 2 and 3 stars for this place, but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. For starters, the place is HUGE. VAST selection of items to choose from, and no shortage of anything. Tons of shoes, tops, pants, bags and knick knacks. Prices for a thrift store were a bit on the high side, but not so much that I wouldn't come back. Also, this place doesn't have a dressing room to try stuff on. That seriously SUCKS. I need to try stuff on before I buy it. How do they get away with this? Also, I found (and ended up purchasing) a really nice blanket from Restoration Hardware here for $8. That's right, you heard me-$8!!! Aside from no changing rooms, one of the staff members was kind of annoying and rude. When I found the blanket, I asked her how much it was since there was no tag on it. She told me that "there was no one in the back and if I came back Monday someone could price it for me." Really? I told her I can't come back Monday since I live far away. She told me to go to the register and "talk to her boss" behind the counter and maybe he could "hook me up with a price." Anyways, I stood in line and they priced my blanket at $8. Considering this blanket is no less then at least $100 in a store, I'm more then happy to pay the $$. Overall, this place isn't bad, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for it. If I'm on this side of town and hanging out with my friends again, I would gladly stop in here. The place seems to be consistently busy, which is a good sign. As a thrift shopper I like to give stores the benefit of the doubt, but anyone who's been doing this for a while knows that some places are better then medicore. I can't go over three stars out of the mere fact that they don't have changing rooms. This place really moves the merchandise. We drive 25 miles from home to go here. They replenish the shelves as fast as the ebayers can fill there carts. You never know what you might find here, very little vintage clothing but you might luck out. There are some real gems working here too. Some of the workers are really nice, caring kind of people. They stay pretty stocked with books even the Amazon book people can't make a dent in there restocking. read more

Looked up an INVICTA Calibre Watch they're also trying to sell for 399.99 when on eBay it doesn't sell more than $35-45. I told the manager about all of this and nothing was done. This is a high over priced used clothing store.... donation center who jacks up the price to scam you.... little baby adidas tennis shoes... dirty and worn down for $19.99.... really.... this is a donation center.... ok so I just pass the shoes and keep digging for different items.... very pricy for used items.... so I get to the counter and I have 2 pairs of shorts the same exact shorts... size and all.... one has a tag and one does not... the clerk said no problem I can give you the same price as the other ones.... they are the same shorts so why not... right... well the mean nasty manager comes on over and says no I can't give you this item... it has to go to the back to be re tagged.... ok I'll wait.... no mam you can't have this item.... why not it's the same exact item the same size.... mam I said NO... wow that's rude.... ok well keep all your items I am leaving the store.... the manager is a bitch... she was rude and has no customer service skills.... I am so disappointed... I had over $100 worth of items in my cart and left all the items and walked out.... the shorts were $4.99.... why not give me the second pair of the same item for the same price.???? why he rude and nasty??? I was referred to this Thrift store by a couple I met at another Thrift store. They were "RIGHT on Point"! This place has a variety of EVERYTHING & All items are in great condition. Brand name items are a lil pricey but, catch the 1/2 bargain, days makes up for it. A distant travel for me, but fun shopping there & Always finding something worth my trip. I went there with my daughter wife and grandson I had $123 and some change we add up the items it came to about $135 so my wife gave me $15 we went and checked out I gave the cashier 6 $20's 1 $10 And 1 $5 plus the change he comes back and says I only gave him 5 $20's. Hadn't been in here in a coons age, probably because the hours of this place are made for people who eat dinner at 4:30 and go to bed at 7pm. Whatever, this place is packed with stuff and at least the Men's section was pretty solid. Ladies, you have the run of the store, the Men's section is a third of the size of what you have available to you. Lot's of suits: full and jackets only. Plenty of coats: long coats, leathers and winter jackets. My whole thing was there was very little in my size that I wanted. Maybe it was just that the stuff I wanted that I found belonged to someone 2 sizes to small. :( Regardless, I will be hunting here again, soon. read more

This place is one of the best thrift stores I have ever been in. #1 it smells like Pine Sol which is a huge bonus when you know what other thrift stores smell like. #2 it is very clean. #3 They are constantly putting out new stock, discounting older stock and keeps the store fresh. #4 There is a HUGE bank of cash registers to move the line along and at a speedy clip. #5 They certainly know how to price things to move quickly. read more

Biggest problem here is that they STAPLE the price tag on the clothes. Every single cotton knit shirt I bought from here has 1 or 2 small staple holes. They charge a premium price and this is so disappointing. For what they charge, you would think they could invest in real clothing taggers. Avoid unless you are seeking play clothes. read more

If I don't like the price, put it back and look the following month. One of my fave thrift stores, and I go to many, especially the others on Gratiot. Was there yesterday, and got two Tempurpedic queen pillows for a mere $19.99..each. I know they are very expensive because I have a new Tempurpedic mattress which is also very expensive, but worth every penny. The pillows retail for $149 on line, so I knew that when I saw the pillows I had to get them, and am so glad I did. A few things that I do not like are the same as what others have posted...no changing rooms, and only accept cash. A lady who I was talking to yesterday said that there is no way she would buy any jeans, since they all fit so differently. I totally agree. They would probably sell even more if they would just provide a few changing rooms. As large as the store in, and with tons of items, it would also be such a convenience if they would take credit cards, since many of us buy a lot in one trip. Many of the items are overpriced, compared to other thrift stores, but their selection is hard to beat, so I pay the price if I really want the things. Having price tags that are not stapled to the items would also be much appreciated. Went to registers to pay for my items, which i bought a few cds, dvds and other things and was told i couldn't purchase one of the dvds since one of their own employees mismarked it. The cashier turned and threw it in a container behind her. I asked for the manager and asked what the correct price was so i could purchase it and she told me it had to go back to get repriced and it would back on the sales floor tomorrow. I was standing right there, a paying customer? Next time i will just drive by like i was going to do in the first place.
