I had an extremely disappointing experience. After discovering that my personal belongings were…read moremissing, They had been taken by an employee. The manager refused to check the cameras even to the cops!!! I called the police and filed a police report because I felt I had no other option. What made the situation even more upsetting was being told they were going to call the police on me after I reported what had happened. From my perspective, this situation was handled very poorly. I expected a thrift store that serves the community to take my concerns seriously and help resolve the issue, not make me feel like I was the problem. Because this matter is now being pursued through the proper channels, I'll let the facts speak for themselves. I hope the store reviews its policies and takes customer concerns more seriously in the future. The police officer said this thrift store is known for crime and low life employees and thieves. Then proceeded to tell me. I should never come back here because it's too dangerous so I'm passing the message of danger on to anybody who reads this. They will pray upon you. They will make you uncomfortable. It's not worth it. I rather support any other cause than here. No way I will ever be back here. I can't discuss any other proceedings because the case is still open. But just take this this morning

This store is massive ans pretty crazy. Every week they have new sales on certain tag colored…read moreitems. For example blue 50% off and white 25% off. Before you shop, you should know it is a CASH only establishment. This is the major sucky thing about this because you don't know how much you will need. This thrift store is filled with tons of clothes, toys, shoes, books, decor, and utensils. We found a little tike's trampoline practically brand new for $13. I mainly looked at the book section and I found a lot of books. Most were half off too. They had really great cheap finds. Last time I came and my sister found a really nice set of long boots. It is definitely worth a look. Sometimes high end items are priced way too high though so keep a look out on that. When we were checking out, the lady was super nice to me. She had great customer service skills. She talked about the books with me. We will be back soon!

I was pushing my mom in her transporter chair and she started to hurt so our visit was shorter than needed to really get a good look at everything. I had found the cutest angel wall decoration and really wanted to buy it but when I went to check out I notice there was someone at the counter with a lot of items and only one cashier, then I noticed there was a couple in line with a big cart full of stuff. I figured we could get behind the couple but then two people quickly came up behind the couple and they had a lot of items. Mom was hurting and with only one cashier it would be a good 15+ min. wait I theorized. I hated to do it but I put down that cute angel wall decoration and we left. They have fancy purses, clothes up the wazu, housewares, books, furniture, on and on. A riding scooter and more cashiers would bump this to a 5 star. I highly recommend a visit.

Everything was cluttered around. I went to the household items to look for some items, and all I saw was junk. There was a lot of old and rusty items stocked, which was strange. I would never take some of these items even if they were free! Most of it should not have been put on the shelf. We found absolutely nothing. We saw one cute figurine, but it was broken and they wanted $6 for it. No thanks. I do not want to pay for broken items that are not even worth $6 fixed. We walked around a bit more and to be honest we saw more junk. They had a bunch of larger household items and garage items. All of it was super old. There was dust on items. You could not even look at some because they decided to close all walkways with furniture. It seems that they just shoved furniture in one collective spot, where you can not even reach anything to look at it. The furniture was super old too. It looked like items that people place on the street or on Craigslist for free. Sadly, I will not be back here.

Sunshine is the smaller of the two, but in some cases size doesn't count. I like Sunshine because their prices are always excellent. This is the home of the 60-cent shirt! Every thrift shop in the area prices their products differently (even if we're talking about Salvation Army on Auburn versus Salvation Army on Gratiot)... and Sunshine is by far the cheapest of all. Price isn't the only thing that Sunshine has going for them. Some of the coolest jackets and shirts I own I got from there. I'm all for getting Old Navy or Gap clothes on the cheap... but to be able to snag TRUE vintage clothes at thrift store prices is unbeatable! (As opposed to paying hipster prices at a resale shop. Ahem.) They have a decent book selection, but this may not be a place to look for movies or records at; they have them, but the selection is small. Even still, there's a large selection of men's and women's tops, bottoms, coats, and shoes. What more could you ask for? Ah yes... 60-cent shirts!

The store is closed Sunday and Monday. They have daily/weekly deals. I was able to purchase a bunch of sift cover books for $1 a piece. Hard cover books were $2 each. They also had 50% off of items in this one room. I found cute foam craft stickers for half off which ended up being $1. The women's clothing was fairly priced and she told me the shirt I found was yellow and 50% off so I got it for $1.50. It was really nice and looked new. They do have boutique items that are a little more priced but not too bad. Overall, everything seemed fairly price and I really enjoyed my time there. I actually ran out of time because I had an appointment to go to. I will definitely be back.

That approach might make sense from a business standpoint, but it takes away from the feeling that you're getting a fair "thrift store" deal and can really slow down the process of getting items out for customers. What bothers me most, though, is learning that this is a for-profit-only company that doesn't appear to represent any cause or give back to the community. There are donation bins in front of the store, but there's no clear indication that those donations go to a good cause or help people in need. In contrast, many other resale and thrift stores are transparent about supporting local charities, community programs, or people in need. It's disappointing that Value World doesn't seem to do the same, especially when they rely on donations and present themselves in a way that can easily be mistaken for a charitable thrift store.

Not your average thrift store. It's more like a treasure hunt, I like the concept. Work in progress, I plan on going every couple weeks, just to see whats new! They took an empty storefront & are bringing something good to the neighborhood. Great option for those on a limited budget.
