I've gone to concerts my entire life, and whether Outdoors or not I've never been to a venue or smoking was allowed just because it was outside. This is not an event center. This is just some grass and pavement with the stage. Everyone was smoking cigarettes all around us and because I've never heard of an outdoor concert allowing smoking, I didn't even think for a second to call them and ask if that was allowed and if it's not, then they're employees or security did absolutely nothing to stop it. Literally we were in a circle of cigarette smoke and I'm allergic to it so we didn't even get to stay for the second opening act. Total waste of time and money and their Protocols are absolute bullshit. They're more worried about not having to hire people to look in people's bags to make sure we don't have drugs and weapons then stopping people from harming everyone around them with their disgusting toxic second-hand smoke. It's the stupid worthless venue and will never ever waste our time there again read more

Buying tickets is a nightmare. If you choose to not have a smartphone (many people are ditching them) you basically can't attend concerts or events. I purchased tickets for my son only to find out we could not present printed tickets. You have to show them on a mobile device. I attempted to get help through the phone number and the call went to a call center in India where you can't understand the person. Utterly useless. I won't be doing this again. read more

I have tickets for a concert on Friday. The temperature is supposed to be 114. They have not rescheduled the concert even though it will start at the hottest part of the day. They are going to get people killed or put in the hospital because of the heat. They have no way to call them before the concert. Update. They have pushed the concert to gates at 6pm and concert at 730pm. They called me back and were really nice on the phone. They say the entire lawn area has shade. I still think it should be rescheduled for safety but it appears they are trying. read more

The Mothers day Brett Young concert last night was such a bad experience. There were 3 food trucks and two tents for beer. I waited in line for an hour trying to get my toddler food since we couldn't take food or drinks of our own. When I finally got up to the food truck window it was a 30 min wait to receive food. The event was poorly planned for food and drinks for how many people were there. The indoor concerts we have never had an issue with maybe because tickets are limited but this was an awful experience for my Childs first concert.... We all deserve to be partially refunded. Next time you have an event like this you need to list what food trucks will be in attendance so that the community can plan accordingly, or let people Bring their own food and water. After that hour wait for 3 waters since the order would take 30 min I didn't order food for that reason... it's ridiculous! I missed most of the concert with my kid on mothers day because of their poor planning. read more

Worst experience at any concert venue I've ever been to. My friend passed out (not from alcohol) and NOBODY would help me! The staff were actually yelling at me to move her to "the other side of the fence". Like what the actual f&@(!! No water was offered, no help at all. Amy Grant was great last Friday night. My seat in the "S" row was not to far from the stage. The seat itself is small when one is not of average size. The security people and ushers were very friendly. Parking is right next to the auditorium. My only complaint is that the auditorium only offers snacks and drinks, no real food; and be prepared to buy a sippy cup to prevent spills in the auditorium. read more

Whatever you think of the exterior (I believe the style is called Brutalism), I really like the venue. The parking is easy (and free), its not too big, you can get close to the stage and really see the performers, and the sound is pretty good. My one complaint is the the lobby is small and they do not let you take drinks into the auditorium unless you pay an extra $5 for a sippy-cup. It would be nice to have a larger area to socialize before the show. We recently attended a concert at the Civic but we have been to several different types of events over the past year. read more

The absolute worst venue that I have ever been to attend an event in my entire life; including eight states. I attended a concert, was treated disrespectfully, a volunteer committed battery upon my person. No handicapped access or help with a situation of emergency. No emts or paramedics. Cops were rude and useless. They thought it was FUNNY. No help for handicapped/disabled/post heart attack patient. In fact? Treated punitively by PD and volunteer staff. Who consist of inexperienced, rude, uneducated people. They were mostly women. Phone confiscated and put in lock box. My phone? Who are you? I purchased a ticket and was told that there was no obstruction of view? Not true, as railing did obstruct view, section 104, seat 6 is an obstructed view. Luckily a nice guy switched with me. Poor Bob as the confiscation was blamed on him and his rule is: Use of cellphones, smart watches, cameras and recording devices will not be permitted in the performance space. If you cheat; you are removed in all other venues. Redding Civic Auditorium violates privacy, confiscates what does not belong to them and blames Dylan. "Stand up" Civic Auditorium and do not place blame when it lies with you. Drinks, food and shirts outrageously overpriced and punished if handicapped if a person needs restroom. You are forced to wait until end of setlist song to be seated. This is NOT a Bob Dylan thing. It is the auditorium blaming him for there own incompetence. It the end? The only thing the was awesome was Dylan's performance. This was the best of four in a year! I would never attend this venue again. In the end a woman selling drawings of Dylan- screamed that I was a liar. This was witnessed by an employee who assisted and felt that the woman was way out of line. Never with I return to this City, let alone, Venue. Zero stars if able. Horrible, Horrible place. Julie, allow comments and feedback as you are a deceitful General Manager of this venue who is waaaay too dishonest, along with your Box Office Manager: Holly. This Civic Auditorium had no handicapped assistance. Is staffed by inexperienced, unpaid volunteers. ZERO STARS and you win the prize for the worst experience in my entire life. You violated my civiil rights, an employee committed battery, my right were violated as far as a handicapped person. I would NEVER recommend this place and I, nor anyone i know, with ever return. What a wonderful venue for all types of events from shows to concerts to expositions. Given Redding's size, we are very lucky to have an auditorium of this size and quality. The seats are comfortable enough for a couple of hours of sitting. The venue is always clean (including the bathrooms). There are more women's restrooms than men's..... which is as it should be. The parking lot is ample and the egress is easy. The sound quality and light shows are always first class. The ushers are friendly. And the price of the events are affordable. More people should come out to see live performances, but then it would just be more crowded. Let's keep this a hidden treasure instead. read more

The recent (Nov. 2011) B.B. King concert held at the Redding Convention Center was a complete rip off. I have been to hundreds of concerts in my life at many venues through-out the state. B.B. can barely walk, play or sing any longer and it was a huge disappointment to see this scam of a concert. The back up bands body language showed complete disinterest, and B.B. had to be helped into his chair, like someone in a rest home getting from bed to a wheel chair. I love B.B. and have seen him several times, but COME ON! Your finished dude! I am sorry, but he should only be showing up for guest appearances......not charging $75-$100 PER TICKET to see him for a couple of songs and tired repetitive nonsense. I LOOKED AT THE TIME AND IT WAS 8:50PM AND IT WAS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF! If the Redding Convention Center continues with this kind of entertainment, no wonder they are having financial problems...We should have been given refunds. New management said to take over in Jan. 2012.........................I will spend my money at the Cascade or drive to the bay area.......thank you very much. read more

Redding largest entertainment building. Has improved immensely over the years. My only reason for the three stars is I've been to many concert halls. Civic Center Still needs a little work but, it could be one of the great ones. Caught Chris Tomlin last weekend preformants was an excellent concert. Stage strobe lights were not bad. Seatting in the midsection up from the stage. Technician still need to adjust the beam to not shine above the all seating. Compared to the Sonoma State University concert hall. On Friday night Tommy Emanuelle Christmas performance was excellent concert. Family sat in the balcony with an eight-year-old child. The beam from the stage strobe lights made me sick and I had to leave the concert early. Other than that Technical issue, building was perfect. I came here for Bill Johnson & Randy Clarks school of Healing and Impartation in January 2012 and I had a blast. This was a great venue for such an event. Lots of great area out in the lobby, good seats everywehre. Good temperature. I do wish that there were more places for us to hang out between sessions, but that was more having to do with the way the event was run, rather than with the venue itself. read more

Unfortunately, I crossed paths with a very unstable usher. I'm a soft spoken person and to have a usher in my face, yelling aggressively was UNBELIEVABLE! I'm sure I'm not the first! She's easy to spot or smell. Red spiked hair and smells like she bathes in Pacholi! If I had the time, or energy that night the police would have been called and I would have pressed charges. Instead I had to trust that the folks managing the civic have already let her go for assaulting another patron. And take heed Civic Auditorium; if anything like this happens to me again at your venue. I will not only call the police, but I will sue! read more

I bought tickets to see Jim Gaffigan this week. I was excited and looking forward to a night out. Fortunately Jim is hilarious. The civic center itself was a disappointment. My seat was so close to the front wall I couldn't even see Jim. They placed his microphone back 15 feet from the stage edge so our entire section was unable to see him. So fortunately there were T.V. screens hung in the opposite corner....however, the 10 foot long speakers hanging from the ceiling blocked the screen! What a huge design flaw. I feel the tickets for these seats shouldn't have even been for sale. I might as well have watched him from home. The crowd totally overwhelmed the air conditioning so after the first 10 minutes, the balcony was airless and hot. One gets accustomed to hot in Redding, but this was ridiculous. Jim Gaffigan is a funny man, but next time I will wait for the TV special and stay home. read more

had tickets for the Joan Jett concert and i am disabled, the volunteers had me move 3 times from my handicap seAts, than since i am not wheel chair bound they made me set in the upper bleachers had to leave early and did not get to enjoy our concert could not sit in those chairs because of my disability. The head of the volunteers is a real old bitch and is rude, disrespectful and should be fired. i should sue her for the way I was treated. being very sick i have never been so insulted no respect and i fought for her freedom. Went here for a country concert. Seats are very small. Not much leg room or elbow room. Event staff was very rude. They wouldn't let you bring drinks into the event, not even a soda or water from their own drinking area in the fenced in area outback. You could only have them in the small fenced in area outback. Not much selection on drinks either. I also chew along with a lot of other people at the concert, since it was a country concert. They wouldn't even allow you to bring in a cup or empty water bottle to spit in. They rather have you just spit on the auditorium floor. I told one of the event staff that and he just said " I guess so." I've been to concerts at many different places from casinos to big outdoor venues to big event centers. Redding civic auditorium has by far been the worst place I've been for an event! read more

My granddaughter and I were excited to see ILuminate tonight, but due to the seating it was sad and miserable. I have never been to this Auditorium before and based on the seating chart I thought I was getting pretty good seats. Turns out we were in the nosebleeds seats getting a side view of the stage. This particular show MUST be viewed head on in order for the effects to be seen, when viewed from the side it was just mediocre dancers with lights on costumes, you cannot see any of the effects. I think both the producer of ILuminate and Redding Civic Auditorium ripped off anyone who sat in the side balconies. The saddest part was we sat there hearing people who were able to view the show appropriately clap and enjoy, while we are sitting there feeling bad that we are missing it. I stayed because I was with my granddaughter, otherwise I would have left after 15 minutes. A couple in front of me did leave, and the man said on his way out "I would never sit in these seats again, even if they were free." The money wasnt the issue, before the show started i went to the box office and said I wanted to pay for better seats, I was told that there were not any other seats. I found out later that wasn't true. The entire experience was so disappointing. read more
