I was planning to eat so probably should have chosen a table, but on the overcast day it was impossible to pass up being cosy on one of the couches. I sat down and began reading through the menu. It took me a very long time to decide what to have but eventually I did and proudly walked to the bar to place my order. I am not sure if this is the usual practice but I waited a while for someone to come and take my order before realising that perhaps this was what was expected of me, so either that is the norm or the service was a bit slow that day. When I did place my order the girl informed me that she had forgotten to mention the special; the 200g rump steak with salad and chips was available for just $10. My decision making process and gourmet options went down the drain as I decided I couldn't go past such a bargain. It was very enjoyable sitting, enjoying my food as the wind howled outside and the clouds threatened to pour down. I highly recommend this place, particularly if you're after a nice location and pleasant surroundings.

Earlier this year I held a picnic for our Brisbane Yelpers. I could have made salads, wraps and…read morerolls myself, sure, but I wanted it to be special. Dalton Hospitality had not long catered the first Brisbane Diner En Blanc and I'd been hearing Jerome's (Dalton's fearless leader) name and praise for his food left, right and centre. Dalton Hospitality is how I became to be one of those people who have their picnic catered. And you know what? I don't regret it for a second, and here's why. Following my initial enquiry with Jerome, he worked one-on-one with me to develop a casual picnic menu for the day and within my budget. Tick. On the day he went out of his way to meet me at the picnic location to deliver the food all presented in beautiful cane picnic baskets to add to the atmosphere. Tick. I still hadn't seen the food until myself and the Yelpers started tucking into the gourmet delights that awaited. To say there was more than enough food is an understatement. We were spoilt for choice from fresh garden salads, smoked salmon salad baguettes, anti-pasto platters with brie and my favourite - the chocolate tart which got better once it warmed up a little. It had a subtle jaffa taste to it. None of us left the picnic hungry. After the picnic, Jerome arranged a time to come and collect the picnic baskets. All no fuss and just part of the service. Exceptional. Jerome and the Dalton team were so easy to work with and I know that by comparison, this picnic was a small scale task for them, however I was never made feel like it was any less important. I would gladly put Dalton to the top of any list where catering was called for!

The food was inedible. The wine was NOT what we agreed upon. Three days before out reception my husband received a phone call from the manager demanding an undisclosed amount of money to ensure our nuptials ran as planned- my husband refused as we had a contract. When we showed up NOTHING was as agreed. It was reprehensible. If you want good service do NOT use these people

Everyone knows that South Bank is the best place (read cheapest) to go for movies if you live in or…read morenear the city. What many people don't realise is that the same people that operate the South Bank cinemas have a few other locations; Hawthorne, Balmoral and Victoria Point. Victoria Point in particular is my favourite, mainly because it's closer to where I live, but also because there is ample free parking and it's a lot quieter than its city based counterparts. Victoria Point also offers a Deluxe Cinema option, which costs an incredibly cheap $12.50. It's not quite as superior as Gold Class in other movie complexes, but it's still a step up from the regular cinemas. The chairs are more plush and in groups of two. You can also order food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, to be brought to you during the movie. My only complaint is that the chairs do not recline, one of my favourite aspects of Gold Class. However, if you want a bit of a treat you won't find much better than this at such a super low price. And if you're seeing a movie suitable for children, it's a great way to avoid noisy kids or bravado teenagers. Take note that opening hours depend on session times, but the general rule is that doors open 15 minutes before the start of the first session each day, and close about 15 minutes after the start of the final session of the day. On Mondays there are no late-night sessions.

Not only do you get great value for money there is hot food, only available on the weekends. Be sure to stop at the ATM as this is a cash business and they sting you for using your pay pass, luckily there are a couple of cash machines on site.
