Where do I even begin with how awful this experience has been and the irreparable harm done to my kittens? I do not recommend this vet to anyone. I'll try to keep it as succinct as possible, but the full scope is far longer and worse. His mannerisms are rude and absolutely terrible for anyone suffering through the reality of possibly losing a pet they love.
During a crisis where my two 19 week old kittens were life-threateningly sick, Dr. Turrou made multiple comments about the inconvenience of the timing and how we had to figure it out before the holidays so I didn't interrupt his time with his family.
When his combination of random approaches and obscure testing seemed to fail and their fevers kept climbing higher, rather than trying a second moderate antibiotic he went for the big guns and injected my kittens with an antibiotic that on it's packaging says it should not be used in young animals (puppies, kittens, etc) as it is known to cause lesions on their growing cartilage and joints. The potential risks of this antibiotic include permanent lameness and blindness as well, and I was never included in this decision or even had the risks explained to me. Within hours of being given this antibiotic, my kittens took a turn for the worse and within 24 hours could not even stand up on their own as they were in so much pain. They improved when I refused to let him inject them with yet more of this poison.
Then I took them to another vet who put them on a different course of treatment that was more standard and some moderate antibiotics that are usually the first to be tried. They vastly improved within hours and have continued to hang in there and slowly improve from being on the brink of death for 9 days in Dr. Turrou's care... but they still cannot walk, their joints are inflamed, and they are in pain. He blows off any correlation to the antibiotic, even after multiple vets at much larger hospitals have agreed with me.
After all this, he had the audacity to stalk down my other vets I had taken them to, and talk to them about my kittens. Then he proceeded to excessively contact me via email, phone, and even text message (who does that?!) to come pay my bill (because that's what is important) which he charged 2-3 times the amount for basic things that two other vets in the same town charged. I paid it for now, because I want this man to leave me and my animals alone, and because I've been recovering from pneumonia myself during all of this and they are still in danger and still sick... so enough is enough.
I highly encourage you to not take any animal you care about to this doctor, especially if they are sick and in need of critical care. The fact that he had to get out a book to know the symptoms of common cat illnesses should have alarmed me from day one. read more
