An old-fashioned drive-in diner--complete with waitresses zipping around on roller skates! We happened upon the Redline when scouting for a place to catch dinner before a show at the nearby Chautaqua Institution, and were glad we did. The covered outdoor dining area (complete with upholstered bench seats from cars at the booths) was the perfect place for a casual meal on a summer evening. My husband tried a burger topped with cheese and onion rings, with a side of curly fries, and was quite happy. There was probably a grilled cheese, but this VEGETARIAN stopped dead when she saw the Granny-Smith salad with dried cranberries, candied walnuts, and goat cheese served in a wrap bowl (sort of like a tortilla bowl for taco salads). SOLD. It was a delicious, and paired nicely with a side of sweet potato fries. Total bill with drinks was about $30. The whole establishment was clean and everyone was exceptionally friendly (maybe I'd feel friendlier at work if I got to wear roller skates?). If I have one regret it's that we had nowhere near enough room left for dessert, and the ice cream and milk shake menu looked amazing. This place serves up heart attacks in baskets. Don't get me wrong, it is a delicious way to have one, but the meals here are just dripping in fat topped with more fat. If you are looking for a meal that is going to satisfy every food craving you might have, stop here. The burgers are great- my favorite being the Blown Engine. My wife likes the Chubby Checker. We've never really ventured out of the burger world, but I would imagine that the other food here is pretty good. Make sure that you order the curly fries. They have about four or five types you can choose from, but the curly fries are definitely the best. Excellent seasoning and cooked just right. The shakes are off the hook as well. During the season, you can get a malted milkshake here which you just don't find on every menu. The place itself is pretty cool, with a heavy retro vibe. The booths are made to look like back seats from 50's cars. Some of the waitresses are one roller skates. Overall, this is a really fun place to visit while you are at Chautauqua Lake. read more

The wait staff is always cheery and helpful. Best of all, you can substitute any burger for a homemade garden burger or portabella. The homemade buns are also great, not at all greasy like the major chain restaurants. Most meals come with your choice of one of five styles of fries, mashed potatoes or onion rings. End the night with a chocolate peanut butter milkshake as you listen to Johnny Cash or Elvis over the speakers. Bikers get free sodas and they often have classic car nights. Visited this place on two different occassions and I was quite impressed with the food! The service is a bit lagging but it is a hot spot for this area. It is an old garage turned into a 50's style car hop including the waitresses on roller skates! The menu is a collection of all sorts of diner style treats including delicious burger creations (buns were a bit heavy) and all sorts of styles of fries and onion rings. It also had many tempting dessert creations. The food tasted great and the prices were very reasonable. The place got quite crowded and it is a neat little spot decorated like something out of Happy Days! Make sure to visit this spot if you pass through this area! read more

Fantastic diner food, great service, and a really fun 50's atmosphere that is perfect for enjoying a meal along the lake. This is a 50's theme diner complete with friendly waitresses on roller skates, 50's music, and a great menu complete with burgers and shakes. Vegetarians will be happy to know that not only is there a garden burger on the menu, but you can sub in a portobello mushroom in for any of their specialty burgers, but just be sure there are no extra meat toppings. The onion rings are also amazing. I can't speak personally for the beef burgers, but other members of my dining party raved about them as well as the tuna melt. This place can be crowded on weekend nights, so it may be better to check out for lunch, although there is definitely something romantic about eating dinner at sunset along the lake at a fun 50's diner. From the road this place looks like a drive in time left behind. That drew us in. In reality, it's fully updated acrossed the board with the exception of the core structure. Outdoor seat is excellent and there's counter service and a few tables inside. One thing that does stick out is the menu. It's the not cheap "burger and hotdogs place" it probably once was. For what it is it was a little pricey. Dinner for 2 adults and 2 small children ran us just under $40. We had a burger, chicken fingers and 2 kids meals. Service was great and was on roller skates. Although it's no longer a cheap "hole in the wall" restaurant, we did enjoy ourselves and I would go back. I'm glad places like this still exist at any price point! The Redline isn't the be all end all of burger joints. But it you're in the area, it's pretty dang good, and probably as good as it gets for miles around. The location is open and breezy but with enough cover to keep you dry if a light rain shows. You'll listen to Patsy Cline, Elvis and friends under decor that's retro without being overdone. We noticed that the kid's menu is available for ages "1 to 100" for those with smaller appetites. This was perfect because we got smaller cheeseburgers and fries for under $6. This was our first visit to Redline. It's a cute establishment. The decor is 50's and it is clean and has plenty of open air dining space. We sat at the counter directly in front of the soda machine. The waitresses (who were all friendly enough) would stack their trays in front of us. Whether they had other patrons food on them to be delivered, or if they were dirty. I found this unsettling. I don't want dirty trays placed inches from my plate. We literally had to move our plates to the very edge of the table so we could eat. I was disappointed to see a Hershey's self serve shake machine at a 50's diner. Whaaaat? Part of the lure of a 50's diner is malts and shakes. Handmade shakes. Not shakes that you can buy at a gas station. We'll go back and giving it another try but we won't be sitting at the counter again. read more
