I've been here both for visitations and for funeral services, and they seem to handle both well. They have a room in the back where loved ones can tuck away and have a bite to eat and regroup before heading back out to the visitation room, which my friend found a welcome break from a very claustrophobic visitation (her dad was very treasured in our community and their family a large one so turnout was intense). Parking is a little limited, but fortunately the street spots nearby are not metered, which I hope the city will continue to offer as downtown sprawls ever-outward and parking becomes more and more a paid luxury.

Earlier in the day, I called to inquire whether a family member was at the funeral home so I could assist my grandmother in sending a Red Cross message. Later, I called again to confirm that the family member had not yet been handled or transferred, as I had been informed otherwise by a relative. I'm not sure if this lady is having a bad day or what, but regardless of the circumstances, I believe it is wrong to speak to or treat grieving individuals, especially service members, in such a manner. Based on this lady's demeanor, I am glad my relative is not at this funeral home because a business is only as good as its worst employee.

Many large old trees provide shade, the grass is nicely tended, and the roads are easy to navigate with plentiful places to park a car while visiting. Fascinating old stones and monuments mix with newer memorials for a very interesting environment, and the staff is very helpful and informative should you have a chance to speak with them.

My family and I used the services of Whitley Memorial Funeral Home in Kalamazoo to cremate my…read moremother. We waited 2 very long, and very hard weeks for her memorial service because the funeral home told us it would take up to 10 days to get her remains back to us. We bought a little blue earn and requested it to be sealed so we could take it to the memorial service which is tomorrow. Today, we received her remains back in a small, plastic black box. I at first assumed the urn was inside. I was wrong. When I got home and opened the box, there was a clear plastic bag full of my mother's ashes. I was in shock. The grief I felt seeing my mother in that form brought me great misery. We were told they could fix it, but not in time for her memorial. We waited this long for her Memorial so we could have her there with us. Now it won't be possible. I would not ever recommend this place to anyone.
