Often the care they receive are minimal, with narrow two track dirt paths and stonework that is in disrepair and grass that has been inexpertly maintained. Which is probably why I find visiting the Fort Custer National Cemetery to pay respect to the departed heroes I have met in my life a celebration of what is good and decent about this country. The national cemetery is an amazing place that honors our deceased Vets. It is exceedingly well maintained, it is open to the sky, and it's a place that we drive to at least twice a year to remember those who have left this plane of existence and to leave stones on their graves to let others know their loved ones have not been forgotten. (And I do wish that our vets were as carefully cared for before they passed, but I suppose that's another review.)

I've been here far too many times in my not that many years and it's of course always a most somber…read moreoccasion. I've been here both for visitations and for funeral services, and they seem to handle both well. They have a room in the back where loved ones can tuck away and have a bite to eat and regroup before heading back out to the visitation room, which my friend found a welcome break from a very claustrophobic visitation (her dad was very treasured in our community and their family a large one so turnout was intense). Parking is a little limited, but fortunately the street spots nearby are not metered, which I hope the city will continue to offer as downtown sprawls ever-outward and parking becomes more and more a paid luxury.

I call and was overjoyed that your good business were on top of the modern "communications game" in affording the service which I easily tapped into to be a part of Aunt Ollie's great send off. Many large old trees provide shade, the grass is nicely tended, and the roads are easy to navigate with plentiful places to park a car while visiting. Fascinating old stones and monuments mix with newer memorials for a very interesting environment, and the staff is very helpful and informative should you have a chance to speak with them.

Earlier in the day, I called to inquire whether a family member was at the funeral home so I could assist my grandmother in sending a Red Cross message. Later, I called again to confirm that the family member had not yet been handled or transferred, as I had been informed otherwise by a relative. I'm not sure if this lady is having a bad day or what, but regardless of the circumstances, I believe it is wrong to speak to or treat grieving individuals, especially service members, in such a manner. Based on this lady's demeanor, I am glad my relative is not at this funeral home because a business is only as good as its worst employee.
