They specifically recommended the garlic knots.....well....we were not disappointed and quickly saw what the garlic knots hype was all about. They are a standout here. They have great patio seating which is perfect in the summer. We had one sausage and one pepperoni. The sausage was nice and spicy and overall a nice surprise. I got the large Caesar salad and it was pretty small and did not fill me up. The salad had about five croutons, a tiny bit of dressing (I had to ask for more), a weenie bit of Paresean cheese, and came in the size bowl that would usually hold a small salad. And, this salad was not listed under the 'sides' but under the salad section. I added the roasted chicken so the salad was $16.50 and hardly came close to filling me up. Do better--its not gonna break the bank to add more of the ingredients. Ya just gotta try harder. No reason to go back to this place. Maybe the pizza is better. PLUS, after looking at my bill I see that 20% tip was automatically added but no paper bill was presented for me to see this and the server mentioned nothing. I keep coming here each weekend, hoping the experience changes but it's always terrible. I keep getting the same waiter, a gentleman with glasses, and he's so dismissive and snotty it makes it hard to enjoy treating myself. I genuinely believe that because there is an automatic 20% gratuity added that he does the absolute least in being helpful. He served me cold Irish coffee today and I asked why it was cold and he disappeared to the back without a word and when he came back I asked again why, thinking he didn't hear me, and he dismissively said he was brewing more and it was cold because of thermal dynamics. He never once said "I'm so sorry it was cold--I am happy to brew more" it was just silence and then dismissiveness, for no good reason. Also he was at the table up front folding napkins and a customer came in asking for a to-go order and he told them to look in the red box for it (I guess that's a heating station?) so weird and rude when he himself should have gotten up to assist the gentleman and look in the box himself for him. Finally I was disappointed recently when I asked for my app and pizza to come out separately (shouldn't even have to be said of course) and when they came out at the same time he dismissively said "Oh so the kitchen was too efficient?" Very difficult and very not okay to have to deal with this as a paying customer who is just looking for a nice night/brunch out. read more

After a mediocre meal (good quality has gone downhill) in a place that has become run down and could use a good cleaning, we got ripped off by the deceitful waitress. Unbeknown to us, because we didn't get a paper bill to review, there is an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill. When we went to pay, we only saw the total, and I left a 21% tip on that, which then became a 41% tip. We asked the waitress why the credit card machine started so low at 3% for a tip. At that point, she should have said that's because it's for extra tipping as we already add a 20% tip. Instead she said the owner is trying to fix that. What should have cost me $38 cost me $51. A beloved neighborhood staple! Great wood-fired pizza with a delicious crust. Solid for brunch as well, with hashes and avocado toast. They reliably have a ton of seating, especially since expanding the outdoor space during COVID, with plenty of shade in the summer and a fire pit in the winter. But they do take reservations as well. And they provide free bug spray for outdoor seating! Bonus points for that. Staff has always been friendly and accommodating in my experience. Happy hour goes until 6:30, which is pretty sweet. Also, so glad that they recently added vegan cheese to the menu. It makes the whole menu super friendly to anyone who doesn't eat dairy! read more

Red Rocks Pizza has been one of my go-to local pizza places for a long time, but recently the new bartenders and servers have become hostile and rude. Particularly, the blonde guy with glasses. He's such a toxic person, it's really unacceptable for a neighborhood pizza place to have someone serving customers with that kind of attitude. Recently, I went in for a pick-up order and decided to have a beer while I waited for my order to be made (pretty common as far as pizza places go, right?). I told him what I was doing and you'd have thought that I said I was going to burn the joint to the ground. He was so upset that I was sitting there waiting for my pizza to be made. It wasn't busy, there were maybe 6 people in the entire restaurant. The bar had other 1 person sitting there. All the other seats were empty. When I sat down he glared at me and didn't come over to ask what I wanted to drink. After I asked for a beer several times he grabbed a glass and begrudgingly poured a beer and slammed it on the counter in front of me and turned away. Not one other word was communicated to me other than him shoving the handheld payment system in front of me. I drank my beer, and got my pizza and left. Nobody needs that kind of treatment and stress on a Sunday at 6:30pm, and quite frankly establishments and servers that are rude to their customers don't deserve my money. Not in this economy. Sadly, I'll never return to Red Rocks Pizza again. read more

The funghi was good but I would probably opt it to try something else next time. It really makes the crust stand out but it's pretty thin and delicious. I engulfed it. I was here with a group of about 10 people for a birthday celebration and I must say the staff handled us perfectly! I got the bottomless brunch (ifnyou get more than 3 drinks is economically worth it) which was pretty decent. You have the option of partaking in all of the breakfast cocktails which is pretty cool because it doesn't limit you to mimosas. We came here for happy hour, and I'd say this place is alright. It's a neighborhood joint, so it's easy to get to and has outdoor seating. It's definitely family friendly, so I can see why it is popular! We ordered some happy hour drinks, a Caesar salad, and two of their happy hour 9" pizzas (a sausage pizza and a pepperoni). The drinks had a bit too much ice, but that first sip of a Campari & soda while sitting in the sun was really great. The salad was pre- dressed and a bit heavy on the dressing, but overall was fine. It was also a good, shareable serving for happy hour. My husband and I both felt like the pizza was a solid neighborhood option, but maybe not our top favorite. It's a little bit greasy, but the bottom of the pizza had a nice crisp to it. Either the gayborhood moved to Columbia Heights when I wasn't looking, or this restaurant is mysteriously a mecca for twinkie things. Not a complaint, just an observation. You won't find me complaining about a little extra calorie-free eye candy over dinner. As many others have already mentioned, the pizza rivals some of the other established pie offering in the DMV. I actually preferred the more crusty bread foundation of the pizzas here over the chewiness that 2 Amys is so well known for. Having just had Matchbox pizza for lunch, I was in a pretty decent position to compare the two and conclude that they're reasonable comparable in quality. My Toscano pizza with mozzarella, enormous and thin slices of salami, and giant juicy black olives was packed with flavor and held together well, regardless of whether I ate with fork and knife, or just picked it up with my hands. The crust was a little bit salty in a yummy sort of way - possibly brushed with olive oil and sea salt? I'm hazarding a guess on that. Priced at roughly $12, it was plenty for me; in fact, I offered a slice of mine up to a dining partner and still left completely satisfied. Plus, they offer a rockin' beer list, both draughts and bottles. It was the first time that I'd seen (and ordered) a Chimay Triple. A little bit too creamy for my taste, but yummy and intoxicating nonetheless. Anyone heard of Smuttynose before? A first for me. Can't say I'd go out of my way to return here, considering that its competition is far more geographically convenient for me, but if invited, I'd be hard-pressed to turn it down. Especially for a seat out on the little patio on a nice day. Seems like Columbia Heights warrants a little more of my personal exploration time. read more

Great little patio on the street corner. We tried a couple different style pizza including the Isabella and the pepperoni. Both were cooked perfectly and tasty with a nice crust that you can tell was a better flour and cooked in the wood-burning brick oven. The Isabella has artichoke and some other items and was just OK, not sure why the flavors did not wow me. The pepperoni was good and what you would expect. Definitely a staple happy hour spot We've been here for happy hour so many times because they've got indoor and outdoor seating, they have some good drink specials and the pizza specials are interesting and good and a good size to share. Finally came here for dinner and it was definitely on par with our previous positive experiences! Have to say I have high expectations for pizza and Red Rocks really delivered! Their crust is soft and a little chewy and they don't overload it with toppings. The topping combos are also pretty unique and we haven't had a bad one yet. read more

But honestly, the shining star here is the eggplant rollatini appetizer. I went to RedRocks while visiting a friend in DC in August, and it was fantastic! We sat on the patio because covid, but also the patio was spacious and on a great corner for people-watching. The staff was super attentive and friendly, and everyone wore masks. They were quick to fill waters, clear plates, and check on drink orders. My friend and I each had a couple cocktails, all delish. I've forgotten the name of my favorite (procrastinating reviewer!) but it had tiny little flowers in it and made for a great photo op--delicious also! We had our nephew down with us for his 10th birthday weekend with his Uncles. This was the place we wanted to take him for his first night. We ordered wayyy too much pizza-but it was delicious! His favorite was the dessert. He got the cannoli-LOVED it. Very good. The four stars is due to him not caring much for the brown/black on the crust from the oven. I told him that's one of the reasons I LOVE Red Rocks. I even pointed out he loves his marshmallows burnt crisp for S'mores when we went camping. His response: "Well, I'm ambidextrous!" I'm not from DC nor live there but wanted to check out the Saturday Brunch scene and was recommended RedRocks from a friend who lives nearby. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at RedRocks (mainly because of my group) and could see myself going again for brunch since I'm better prepared from this initial experience. I went with a group of 6 and we sat outside since the weather was nice. There wasn't a wait around 11am so that was great. They have $15 bottomless mimosas but the menu states there is a 2 hour limit, not sure how strictly this is enforced though since we left about 2 hours after being seated. The service was decent. I don't remember the name of our server but they were obviously busy and trying to keep up. We didn't have to wait too long for refills for our mimosas but there were some miscommunications about our meals. Almost everyone in my group ordered the breakfast panino and it was delicious. That being said, I felt that the price of the meal was alright but could see why people think its overpriced (brunch meal items ranged from $7-$13). The breakfast potatoes were a bit bland, they really didn't stick out flavor-wise. Honestly, the main reason I'd recommend the panino is for the avocado, bacon, and toasted baguette. I love all of those things and they couldn't really be cooked wrong which is why I enjoyed the meal. On a side note, my eggs were a bit more done than "over medium" and personally it would've been better over easy. Honest disclosure: my taste buds may have been affected from the several glasses of mimosas I had before our meal came out. Downsides: An issue that was not addressed with our server was the additional surcharges for substituting items. I am not a fan of goat cheese and therefore asked for substitutions to which the server said mozzarella or cheddar. I chose mozzarella and was never told there was an additional $1.50 charge. Personally, that seems to be a bit much considering I was just substituting a small amount of cheese. My friend, however, ordered the RedRocks Hash and wanted sausage instead of bacon but wasn't told about the additional charge of $2 (or $2.50--I'm not exactly sure but it's one or the other). I see this as the fault of the server because they should always inform customers of additional charges like that. There was also a miscommunication about payment where I was overcharged by $20 but that was quickly rectified so at least I didn't have to struggle with a manager over that issue. I will say that I liked their range of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals and their mimosas were good. I may go back here the next time I visit my friend just to give it another try, but I don't see myself coming here for anything other than brunch--specifically because it is hard to mess up bottomless mimosas and breakfast food. read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday morning. The food was good: I got the deluxe with lemon ricotta pancakes, prosciutto, 2 eggs and hashbrowns. My friends got pizza and bruschetta and more Deluxe. The breakfast piece was good but I thought the portion of the hashbrowns was a little bit small. The pizza was thin and liquidy so if that's the ones you like, you'll like these but if not, you're out of luck. The service was really slow. I really enjoy this restaurant. I've been here several times over the years. Traditionally, I order the pizza here, and I have very good memories of each visit. While the restaurant is a slightly farther walk from the Metro line (Columbia Heights (Green)), it's located in a neighborhood with a number of offerings. The location has a nice outdoor seating area that is frequently full during the warmer months of the year. Today was the first time I've been to RedRocks for brunch. I ordered the roasted beet salad (okay) and "the deluxe" (good). While the beet salad wasn't what I had hoped for, I greatly enjoyed the crispy hash browns, the two fresh eggs, the fluffy French toast, and the thick bacon. The food is reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly. As brunch can get a tad busy here, I would recommend either making a reservation or arriving right around the opening hour. read more

Happy hour menu has surprisingly very few pizza options. The margherita pizza was actually quite nice, super thin pie with fluffy crust and good balance of sauce and cheese. The burrata salad was lack luster, didn't have the cherry tomatoes and cheese balance I was hoping for. Also no real liquid or dressing to combine the two except for the oil on the garlic bread, but with a salad like that, who needs the bread really. The olives were served hot, which was both perplexing and also somewhat off putting, as well as drenched in oil. Also sitting outside we were frequented by bugs which was seemingly not an issue the staff really cared to mention or handle when we sat outside. Would recommend sitting inside if that would be an issue for your meal. read more

One of the best neighborhood spots you could ask for! Great outdoor patio seating when its warm out, and warm and cozy inside during winter. The staff here are always great, and food comes out quickly. I haven't got a pizza here I didn't like but my favorites are funghi and verde, and if you want to grab an appetizer, I'd def recommend the garlic knots. I went this past saturday for Brunch and it turned into a day party. I can say that I had an amazing time. Unlimited Mimosas for $20/person I got the 3 way meal on the brunch menu and it was around $14. It was 10 of us and they charged the typical 20% gratuity. There is 3 levels here. and the rooftop is nicely put together. the DJ is on the top floor , but the music is loud and they play rap and hip hop. I would definitely go back. A couple of my friends kept recommending RedRocks to me so my expectations were set pretty high. I expected thin crust pizza dripping with sauce and olive oil, but instead I got a personal pan pizza that was dry and bland. I ordered the pizza with meatballs; the meatballs were good but that was the only thing I liked.
