The lake was really cool and my kids enjoyed seeing the ducks. I had no idea we had a lake like this with a park in the city. Overall a really cool park that really needs updates. That leaves it A-ok in my Yelp book.

The 3.4 mile Rails to Trails greenway is definitely one of most enjoyable trails I've trained on…read more You can easily start this trail at Black Creek Park (or cut off .4 miles and start at Fultondale's Bark Park), both with plenty of parking and bathroom facilities. The trail was completed as part of a city project, turning an old rail bed, from which the ties and rails have been pulled up, into a fully operational walking/running/biking and hiking trail, which leads to a flat, albeit curvy trail. Also, be aware of the ravines, if you're not a strong biker or have a fear of heights, this might not be the path for you. If you went over the edge of this trail, you wouldn't be unscathed. But, on the plus side, it is an absolutely beautiful path, gravel and running all along Black Creek. Mostly shaded with large trees and rock walls throughout. The trail is dog friendly, and although you won't find doggie bags, you will find trashcans at every .5 mile. Also, you'll find mile markers every 1/2 mile as well as benches (and even an old blue shed at mile 1.5). The trail has no accessibility once you're past the Bark Park and no bathrooms or water fountains. I ran all the way to Shady Grove Road, which was .4 miles past the last mile marker (mile 3). When you reach the end, there's no signage and only a tiny area that has been cleared for parking. You could access the trail from here as well, but you'd have to know where it is to find it. I did notice that A "trail" continues on the other side of Shady Grove Road, but it's dirt path and technically isn't part of the Rails to Trails path. Maybe the city will continue to improve upon this in the future? Regardless, this is a very pleasant trail: gravel, miles labeled, safe, mostly shaded and with bathroom facilities at the start.

Near the 3 mile mark, one stream of Black Creek ends in a beautiful body of water seen from the trail.

We rented our paddleboards for $15/hr and went right for it. They also have life vests available to borrow if you need. Kayaks were also available for rental as well as diving gear etc. This is a well run, organized and very pretty diving area, would definitely recommend for an outdoor adventure!

Rules state that outside food and drink are prohibited, but I don't think anyone would approach you over it, after all, you are in your own, personal, vehicle. The main section of the park is completely fenced in and has a small picnic shelter with tables under it, a decent paved 2/10 of a mile walking trail, a restroom facility, benches, and a couple of picnic tables. There is a bunch of shade in this area and green space in the center where you could hold a picnic, play catch or relax on. You will also see a borrow a book box and a story trail in the are as well The are also has a playground area that is on a bed of wood chips and has traditional swings, toddler swings, tire swings, a medium sized jungle gym with a slide, A fire truck themed jungle gym with a couple of slides, a merry-go-round, and a jungle gym with monkey bars and rock climbing. The equipment is in decent shape and looked like kids would have a lot of fun here. Because the area is fenced in, it is popular for those with dogs. Even though they have many signs posted to tell you to keep your dogs on a leash, I saw a few people that did not while I was there. This is a very nice park that has a lot to offer. I love the shade that it has. Even though it is located off of a busy road, I still found it peaceful. This place is a diamond in the rough and you should really consider coming here if you are looking for a park to visit.

It is super dog friendly, so be careful where you walk, but that's really the only semi-negative thing that I can come up with. As long as it's not freezing or raining, the park always has at least one person in it. And, with Green Central Station right next door now, you can rent picnic stuff or crochet to enjoy in the grass. My absolute favorite thing about the park is that it houses Do Dah Day every year! Even with a shorter hike, we were still able to experience and enjoy the park and its trails. My favorite part was Cambrian Overlook. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and worth every bit of bravery it took to snap a photo.
