Jamie arrived on time and was ready to work immediately. While rekeying, Jamie even explained how the mechanism of the locks worked - it was really neat! He was extremely nice and remained professional the entire time. And he did a fantastic job for a great price! He thoroughly checked all my locks and knobs and went above and beyond what was expecting - he noticed one of our knobs was acting janky so he wiggles and jiggled and fixed it on the spot for no extra charge. I had high hopes for this. I called last week when my key broke to get my fob replaced. The man on the phone said he'd do it as long as I brought the parts. I bought 2 called on Monday to make an appointment per his request. I had an appointment set for Tuesday at 9:30. I called to say I was running late and he said he was too but he'd call me when he was in town. I awaited his call and nothing. I called again at around noon and left a message and I STILL haven't gotten any type of response. I wouldn't even mind if he had said that he wasn't interested in doing it anymore but to avoid or ignore me when I was 100% willing to pay is ridiculous. I'll be going in person to see if I can actually talk to someone and hopefully change the review UPDATE: Wow oh boy I wish I could remove even that one star. My mom went to see him and he brought up that I left this review. Instead of, you know doing something to fix it. Reed's Key Shop is a humble little shop in the Montrose neighborhood, situated on the Commonwealth "curve" (it'll be on your right side, since the street runs one way). I managed to forget my keys in another city, and didn't realize this until I was already seated on the plane. I'm brilliant like that. Luckily, it wasn't catastrophic, so I was able to preamble ( I forgot my car keys too) to Reed's the next day to order some spares. The shop is a small, cramped place, with barely enough room to position your arms akimbo to do a chicken dance, but from the looks of their packed to the ceiling shop, you can hand them just about any type of key or lock and they can take care of you. The day I was there, I believe it was the patriarch and one of his sons at the helm. They were charmingly hospitable and reminded me of just why and how much I love my neighborhood. Best locksmith / key shop ever. I've been going to Reed Key Shop for about 15 years as they've moved locations twice. I used to own a rental property so I needed a good dependable locksmith regularly, and I've always gone to them since. Mr. Reed is extremely knowledgeable and professional, very honest and fair - just like his father was when he ran the shop before. I won't go anywhere else for lock/key work. I usually take locks in to him to get re-keyed and get keys cut, but he'll come out if needed too. His prices have always been lower than other locksmiths, and I have complete trust in his service. When I've called other locksmiths before, I never got a good feeling about having them come out to my house and work on my locks. read more

So, I bought my own rekeying kit and disassembled my lock from the door per the instructions. Well, things were going fine until my wife's somewhat grumpy morning attitude made me lose focus and bam! I pushed something too hard and parts when flying all over the place. And these were small parts that practically require a magnifying glass to find. Even after finding all the parts, my lock was disassembled to the point of no return... Here's where Reed's Key Shop came to the rescue! I called the shop and explained the situation. As soon as I told him that I tried rekeying the lock myself, he immediately said "so you need me to put it back together for you?" Heh. So I went to the shop with a bag of parts and 10 minutes later he had everything done! He even rekeyed the lock for my new key! I recently had trouble with my truck tailgate lock and went to the nearest locksmith I could find, Reed's Key Shop. When I told the owner of the shop my issue he grabbed his can of WD-40 and came outside to help me. Although we weren't able to get my tailgate unlocked, he offered advice and let me work on the issue in his lot. As I was taking apart my tailgate another employee stopped over to see if he could help despite the owner's previous efforts. He must've had the magical touch because he was able to unlock the tailgate with no issues. He sprayed the lock and cables with WD-40 and recommended that I go to the Ford dealership as it is not a key issue, but a lock/cable issue. All of this occurred on a relatively hot, sweaty day in Houston where they had no problem leaving their A/C to help me. O, and they didn't charge me a thing. read more

Convenient, fast, locally owned locksmith in The Heights. I found the owner to be very friendly and he was able to quickly rekey 2 locks and make several copies within a few minutes. He's also very reasonable with his rates... which begs the question of why you would want some random person or automated machine to make copies at one of the big chains when you can have a local locksmith hand copy keys in a matter of seconds (my copies were perfect).
