It was a cute experience. If you're looking for one of those recliner seat places this isn't it. It's more old school authentic, a vibe I feel that places are really missing these days. Show your tickets, order your food and take your seats. Straightforward. Theres also a nice area outside for sitting with umbrellas if you want to come early and eat outside, with a view of the park. Our movie was a little lame but hey we picked it, dang. It is a relatively small theater so definitely order your tickets early. During a particularly cold, snowy January week, we made a crazy last minute decision to visit Bar Harbor. Awesome idea! However, we soon discovered that there is little open around here mid-week this time of year. Reel Pizza to the rescue! As our innkeeper recommeded, we made our reservations on-line earlier in the day - carefully choosing a couch right in front. Since we'd decided that we'd make this a dinner & movie date, we arrived a bit early to order & settle in. The couch we'd reserved was a bit battered & grubby, but I supressed my germphobia & roll with it. If you are picky, you may want sit in the standard movie seats instead. We grabbed a couple folding tables from below the screen to hold our dinner. A buzzer would alert us when our food was ready. The movie started & with in minutes, the buzzer went off. Our Play it Again, Sam pizza was loaded with delicious toppings. A large pie was more than enough for two & far exceeded usual movie theater grub! In addition to the standards sodas, a few good craft beers & a cider & wine were available to accompany the food. We also threw in an order of nachos. The cheese-y, plentiful side proved to be far too much for us with the pizza & was more typical snack bar stuff. We loved our wintery foray to the area and Reel Pizza gave us a fun evening plan when the town was mostly dead. We can't wait to do this again! read more

The theater was so charming! It has couches you can sit on which looked fun and cozy. The place felt clean but did have an older vibe to it. The food smelled good and the drinks and tickets were all reasonably priced. There was an intermission too which was great, especially since we were seeing a longer movie. We have a vacation tradition of trying to catch a movie at a local theater wherever we are. Sometimes it doesn't work out due to proximity. We honestly weren't sure there'd be an opportunity to take in a film on a recent trip to Acadia National Park--but, Reel Pizza Cinerama in Bar Harbor to the rescue! We purchased tickets for a Saturday night (in advance, it can definitely fill up, particularly in high season). No need to grab dinner before or after--they have great pizza options in-house! Their pizza options are truly a cut above what I've seen at other similar theaters. Their seating options range from quirky to modern comfy. We sat in the more modern seats that have a nice counter in front of the seats so you can easily enjoy your dinner. The first couple of rows are sofa seating (like, literally living room sofas). They also have a collection of TV trays at the front so if you're sitting on the sofa, you can still have some place to put your pizza. The pizza set up is streamlined and efficient. When you arrive, simply line up at the counter and order your pizza, popcorn, etc. They'll give you a buzzer that will notify you when your pizza is ready. We got there quite a bit early as we weren't sure if we'd need to wait for the pizza in the lobby (we've been to a theater where this is the case). Fortunately, we didn't need to do that and were able to tell them we'd like our pizza closer to showtime and they happily accommodated. Another cool thing is for all their films, they insert a good ol' fashioned intermission! It's about 10 minutes, affording you the opportunity to go to the bathroom, refill your popcorn etc. I wish all theaters did this! All and all, a wonderful experience at this local gem. This place is a gem. We expected gas station type pizza but NO WAY! It was AMAZING!!!! So many different pizza options, we had a hard time choosing. We landed on a buffalo chicken, pepperoni and some sort of chicken panini (I can't remember the fun name) and they were all really, really excellent pizza. Take away the movie and I'd come just for the pizza. Speaking of the movie--great price to watch a movie! Cheaper than at home!! Good beer selection as well. And the service was so friendly. This is such a fun place! With delicious gourmet pizza; they even have a whole wheat crust option!! Also freshly popped popcorn, fresh cut fruit and wine among other libations! What?! And a movie! Some seating is typical with an added counter-type table, and in front rows are couches with TV trays! So much fun for families! Wonderful atmosphere with a relaxed have fun vibe! We had a rainy day and chose to go to a late afternoon show to see the new Tom Cruise Mission Impossible movie. So, welcome to Bar Harbor, Maine - the summer playground to the smarter, more low-key part of old money America. Sure, they got Asian bus tours going down Main street all the time, but if you are in town past 6p you are likely staying at a B&B (or AirBnB at someone else's summer home), so huzzah, congratulations to you, more things to do. But suppose you don't want to barhop or go on moonlight walks down the shore path? Then what? Well, there's Real Pizza Cinerama, anointed the "best movie theater in Bar Harbor" by tourists...which is funny because there's only 2 theaters in town. Okay, the general walkthrough - mostly second run movies, although they do try and get first run stuff (they showed Inside Out upon the second week of theater release), $6/ticket, cheap concession, comfy couches for your seats (that is, if you call first dibs on it). They got DIY trays to hold your pizza, and they got pizza fixins', utensils, plates and pitchers of ice water with cups for you. Awesome, nice to know that the owner does not try to nickel and dime you. (That being said, he does put in intermissions every 30 minutes to sell more stuff...which is actually fine). My only beef is that they offer only 2 movies each week, 2 showings a day, so if you want choices...not gonna happen. They got pizza on hand. Not spectacularly great pizza, but definitely serviceable (I am almost tempted to say that they are also the only pizzeria in town...but they are likely not). Think "one notch above Dominos/equal to your local Vinnie's" So in summary, cheap tickets, decent pizza, cheap concessions, generous offerings, comfy seats, clean, situated next door to the only national park on the east coast. After reading the description of this place, I insisted that we go, regardless of what film was playing. Pizza, beer and movies are three of my favorite things in this world. This theater is definitely unique, old school box office, art gallery in the lobby, and a fun concession price list. Here's where the problem lies, and what docked them a star. Put in a queue. A formal one. The individual acting as the bouncer/line-enforcer did so sparingly, including to my wife who was waiting for me to go to the restroom. As the two previous screenings let out everyone surged to the right and it was incredibly uncomfortable for 10 minutes. We did enjoy the pizza in the theater, and the seats. There were some couches open but I couldn't convince my wife to sit in one. read more

Overall the pizza had a nice flavor and the looks from the pictures were deceiving, it was actually a very good pizza. Needed a rainy evening activity for the family and went to see Incredibles 2. Very unique experience in an old building/theater. We were last family to get into 5:30 pm show and had the couch at the immediate front. Ordered 2 different pizzas (and some adult beverages for us). Pizza much better than expected. All in all very fun experience. Now some advice: Being a very rainy day the rest of town seemed to have similar plans and line was very long. We arrived 45 minutes before doors opened at 4:30 and again were the last family seat s for first show. Arrive early and be dressed for a long wait in the rain. I would not have chosen as close as we were and was a bit uncomfortable looking up at a sharp angle. Again, last family in so I was not complaining. Getting food is quite chaotic in such a small space but ended up being part of the charm. Food ready by the time movie started and was enjoyable. Intermission part way through for bio break and fill up of drinks. Fun evening and reasonably priced. Just be prepared for lots of waiting. read more

Please open one up in New York, preferably in my town or in close proximity to it. You have my word I will be there every week and so will my family and friends. I saw a flyer with a menu when I was in town shopping at a hardware store for various camping equipment.... immediately got on the phone, and within seconds, cleared my schedule for a pizza and movie night. We saw Mission Impossible and ordered a, and please allow me to be cruel and descriptive so I can make your mouth water, MOONSTRUCK pie, all white with ricotta, parmesan, monterey jack, mozzarella and small popcorn swimming in nutritional yeast. We arrived early to get our electronic buzzer and seats (GO EARLY), saw a good portion of the movie while we ate, and the boyfriend instantly passed out in a food coma so he didn't even know there was an intermission (which was pretty sweet, but caught me off guard- i just thought the movie shut off before one of the people to my left, who wasn't in a food coma, informed me). People were respectful as they fled for the bathrooms or quietly talked with their neighbors in their seats. Anyway I was in absolute heaven. So, is this the future of cinema? As others have said, it's a great concept that is poorly managed. The first movie starts at 5:30pm. The problem is that a few people show up super early (4:30pm, when the doors reportedly open before the "official" opening time of 5:00) and put down a bunch of paper plates that supposedly "reserves" all of the prime seats for their not-yet-arrived "friends." When we arrived at just before 5:00, ALL of the decent seats were "occupied" by paper plates. Many more plates than people in the lobby and outside. You also need to be quick to order your pizza before 5:00. Our pizza wasn't ready until after the movie started. And getting back to my seat was harder than getting back to a window seat on a crowded airline during the food service. I will not return until they enforce a first-come-first-seated policy. read more

My wife and I purchased tickets in advance, got in line 10 minutes before the doors opened, and walked in to find a mad free for all for seating - with people throwing their jackets over groups of seats to reserve them for their friends who were on the way, laying over couches to keep others from sitting in them, and inevitably the manager forcing my wife and I to sit in individual seats 3 rows apart from each other. His comment to us was "make deals with people" (for seating). I don't pay for a movie to make deals with people, and I certainly don't go to the movies only to sit rows away from my spouse. This genuinely could have been a great experience, but it was ruined by the way it was managed. I would recommend the following policies: 1. Have ushers seat customers one group at a time (it may take longer, but avoids incidents such as this) 2. Reel Pizza Cinerama is a true gem. You can watch a new release for under $10. (Cue Robin Williams "what year is it?" meme.) You can order pizza and beer from the lobby, and they'll buzz you during the movie to pick it up. I loved both the High Plains Drifter pizza and Atlantic Brewing Company's drafts. The movie intermission caught me off guard as it broke the intensity of the movie, but I would come back again. P.S. Mount Desert Creamery is walking distance. This is a combined review for the movie theater (4.5 stars) and the food (2.5 stars). That averages to 3.5 which I'm rounding up to 4. The theatre: it's cheap (where else can you find a movie for $6 these days?). Comfortable: you can choose from a variety of seats, from traditional theatre chairs, recliners like you'd have in your living room, and funky old upholstered sofas, their fabric tattered and torn, complete with throw pillows. That's what we chose. It was very comfortable. Because of their age and condition I wondered about the possibility of fleas or other nasties sharing it with us (but with absolutely no evidence to suggest that). It's a small theatre; probably 50 seats in all, with plenty of room between the rows for the trays for your food. The tray tables are moveable, and available at the front for you to take to your seat. Picture quality was excellent, in sharp focus and bright enough. Sound was decent, though our movie was not of the action/adventure type so probably didn't tax the sound system much. At times we did hear sounds from the adjoining theatre, a slight distraction at times. The screen was kinda high up; it should have been lower for a more comfortable viewing angle. And of course they serve food. Not the typical popcorn and overpriced candy served in most theatres but items like real house-made pizza and nachos. And beer and wine. That's big! And the do serve popcorn for those that require it for their movie experience. I didn't try it but some other reviewers said they didn't like it because it wasn't buttery enough. Since nothing is more disgusting to me than the stink of overbuttered movie popcorn that sounds like a big plus to me, and maybe I'll try it next time. You order the food at the counter and for any items that need preparation they give you a beeper to alert you when it's ready. (A flasher actually, not a beeper; can't have beepers going off during the movie!) We got two 10-inch pizzas. Interesting ingredients and names taken from classic movies. I had the Treasure Of the Sierra Madre (jalapenos, hot sausage, onion, roasted red pepper, salsa verde, and monterey jack) and DW has the Mediterraneo (eggplant, tomato, pine nuts, garlic, black olives, capers, and calamato olives). As I said, very interesting ingredients. You can also build your own. I wish the end result had been as good as the description sounded. The pizza itself was only average - and that's if I'm being generous. The crust was bland and bready and tasted store-bought; not freshly made and stretched out by hand. The toppings and cheese were adequate in quantity. Unfortunately, mine had cooled to room temperature by the time our flasher went off, while DW's was so hot I had to use the provided oven mitt to carry the metal tray to our seat. (Of course that is a good thing, not a complaint!). While they do serve wine, it was terrible wine, barely even drinkable. At any real restaurant I would have sent it back. (I think it was called Bota, from a box.) The portions are confusing; they're called single and double. We got doubles. Turned out they were huge (served in a 16 ounce plastic tumbler, filled most of the way up). That's too big; about 2/3 of a bottle! When one glass of wine is enough to make a lightweight person legally intoxicated I think there could actually be some liability issues here if a patron were to get into an auto accident afterward. Even the single is 8 ounces! Stick to a standard 5-ounce pour for a single please, and maybe offer an 8-ounce large. They do seem to have better and more abundant choices in the beers, though. Intermission: All the movies have an intermission. I suppose that could be considered necessary by some for a food-oriented theatre, but it really breaks the flow of the movie which was under 2 hours and I didn't like that. Mailing list: I've been on their mailing list for over 10 years when I first signed up and look forward to their updates about 6 times a year. (Paper, in the mail!) Reading about the movies they're showing has given me many leads over the years of movies to see locally or on Netflix. Living almost 300 miles away I've only been to Reel Pizza 3 times in all these years and I feel a bit guilty about all the wasted paper and wasting their money on me, but then I realize that the mailings are probably paid for almost entirely by their many advertisers so it may in fact not cost them anything. And as for paper vs. email: I actually do read paper fliers whereas if it was an electronic mailing list sent by email it would go straight to the trash without being read. Yay paper! read more

Firstly I had no idea reel pizza had a single negative review. Been here 14 years and can very honestly say this is a great spot to watch a movie and enjoy some great quality and varied pizza. I've been to the place 100 times and frankly can't remember a single negative experience. So take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. It's hard to hire people up here and they did a great job of grinding it out during covid which exasperated an already tight labor market. Have a positive attitude and reasonable expectations and this place will exceed. read more
