My first (and only) experience with them…read morewas in September of 2024, and I'm still so upset about it that I felt compelled to write this review. I went there as a new patient to establish care, have X-rays taken, and get a cleaning. The receptionist was very standoffish and was under the impression that I had called to cancel my appointment (I had not). Despite arriving on time for my appointment, I was informed that there was not enough time for a cleaning and that they would only be able to take X-rays. This was frustrating, but not the end of the world. Dr. Dhanoa told me that I had a few cavities that needed to be filled, which was not a surprise, as I have always been cavity-prone. What did come as a shock, however, was when he informed me that I needed to have many old fillings re-done, amounting to 13 fillings altogether! This seemed odd to me, and I decided to get a second opinion from another dentist. I requested my dental X-rays from Affordable Family Dental multiple times - twice over the phone, and twice via email - and they never sent them to me despite my having filled out their records release authorization form. It was abundantly clear every time I called that the receptionist had no interest in helping me and could not wait to get off the phone. Two of the times I called in, she actually hung up before I had finished talking. I explained my situation to another local dentist, and thankfully, they were very understanding, were able to fit me in right away, and took a whole new set of X-rays for free (shout-out to Access Dental!). The new dentist said that I only needed to have the new cavities filled and that the other work that Dr. Dhanoa told me I needed was excessive. The impression I received was that Dr. Dhanoa was trying to squeeze as much money as he could out of my insurance. I also feel that his office is intentionally withholding my dental records. This is a violation of WAC 246-817-310 and HIPAA's 45 CFR § 164.524. Between this and the rude, incompetent front desk staff, I am flabbergasted that Affordable Family Dental has such high reviews. Something positive I would like to mention is my experience with the dental hygienist who took my X-rays, Stephany. She was very sweet and was aware of the discomfort that oral X-rays can cause. She worked quickly and told me to let her know if I needed a break. She was the bright spot in what was otherwise a frustrating and lackluster experience. While they have lost my business, I truly hope that Affordable Family Dental will take this feedback seriously and do better moving forward.

Finally got through just to be put on hold, I ended up just driving back, walked in the office with my cell phone on speaker listening to the hold music for the last 12 straight minutes after they put me on hold meanwhile their was two office gals sitting there dilly dallying around & wouldn't or couldn't bother to answer the call that's on hold.(me) Now get this, she had the audacity to point blank tell me that it wasn't an Urgent Matter & nobody was on hold even when I had it blaring in the room & the message that she left me recorded on voicemail which is below! This is EXACTLY why I'm a FORMER patient of Affordable Dental in Tumwater, If I didn't need to be there as a driver for another patient, I wouldn't EVER be back there! We appreciated the pre appointment paperwork was sent to us electronically prior which streamlined the check in process in the comfort of our own home. The decor, lighting, and seating in the office, along with the complimentary coffee, tea, and cold water were lovely and very welcoming. My husband is mobility challenged, and the doorways were wide enough to accommodate. There was a little children's table with books to help entertain the little tykes. We were thoroughly impressed with all of the staff members who took their time explaining everything. They have a "comfort menu" listing several spa like amenities that are free to choose from in order to make your dental visit as enjoyable as possible. I chose the warm, moist neck, wrap, the heat and massage on the dental chair, the aromatherapy with lavender, and the paraffin wax hand treatment, which were all special touches. For United States veterans, we were told that they do work with the VA in getting community care referrals. They also offer $50 referral bonuses. And lastly, I would like to say that they do have a large handicap accessible restroom, which was large enough for my husband's wheelchair. Thank you tranquility dental wellness. The dental hygienists and assistants that she works with are all super kind and gentle. The "comfort menu" is truly that. Anything you think of that would help calm your nerves or make you more comfortable for your appointment is on that list. The noise of the tools was driving me crazy and they gave me noise canceling headphones. If you don't want to use theirs, they don't mind if you bring your own. Each room also has a monitor in it and they'll play you whatever show you want. I've only had to wait more than 5 minutes for an appointment once. There is rarely more than one person waiting at a time. They have TWO waiting areas! I've only had a billing once when they were switching platforms. My insurance didn't transfer over. But it was an easy fix and the staff were super helpful. You check out a totally private desk so the world doesn't hear all your business. I have nothing but great things to say about this place. If you have dentist anxiety, come here. You won't regret it.

I was quoted a total cost of $4,700 and was told they would contact me within two weeks with information about what my insurance would cover. After hearing nothing for a month, I called them myself. That's when I was told insurance verification takes 10-12 weeks. After asking a few more questions, the story suddenly changed. I was informed that my insurance would cover $2,900, but then I was told my portion was also $2,900. Apparently math works differently in this office. When I pointed out that $4,700 minus $2,900 equals $1,800--not $2,900--I was told the original quote was the "cash price." Interesting, considering they were actively trying to sign me up for their payment plan the day they quoted me $4,700. At no point was I told that price was contingent on paying cash. Rather than admitting the mistake, honoring the quoted price, or even having a professional conversation about it, I received a letter today informing me that they were terminating the doctor-patient relationship. Comical. If standing behind your own pricing is grounds for dismissal, that's probably all anyone needs to know. I will be filing complaints with my insurance company, the Attorney General's office, and the Better Business Bureau. If anyone knows of additional avenues for reporting this type of conduct, feel free to share them in the comments.
