I had to switch dentists when my previous dentist's office couldn't accept my new insurance. I thought my previous dentist was fantastic and I was so bummed! Then along comes Dr. Winter to blow all my expectations out of the water. He may be Hollywood-handsome, but he knows his dentistry!! When he started to hint that a root canal was needed, I completely shut him down. He didn't argue with me. That's how gentle he is. His assistant Trish waited until I was ready for more info and she educated me, then Dr. Winter confirmed why this was the optimal solution for my particular dental concerns. More info always helps me make decisions like this -- vs. info that is scattershot and untrustworthy online. Trish gave me all the factual info I was missing. And then the hygienist Addie blew my mind with all the info she provided on how I can avoid spending more $ than necessary on the periodontal cleanings I need 4x a year. She really listened to all my concerns, and while she had my complete attention (meaning I couldn't yak since she was working on my teeth) she "brain-dumped" all the info I told her I was craving. She knows how to tailor her message to her audience. All without missing a beat as she cleaned my teeth. Great multi-tasker! Incredibly, she managed to turn my few remaining uncrowned teeth to an ivory to match my other teeth. Gone is all the yellow -- in a single cleaning! Why haven't other hygienists in the past done this for me??? Maybe because they were trying to sell me on whitening treatments I wonder? I can't take the risk of bleaching my sensitive teeth, and Addie totally sympathized. She gave me a crash course in protecting my teeth going forward. And last but most emphatically not least, this clinic has the most impressive technological advances I've seen at previous dentist offices. You'd think all this state-of-the-art technology would cost up the ying-yang but they really aren't any more expensive than the other dentists' offices I've dealt with. I recently relocated to the area and was in need of finding a new dentist for my family. I reached out to westside dental because frankly, the location was convenient to where I live - and I'm so happy I did. I received excellent customer service. The office staff, hygienist, and Dr. Winters were very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Winters was also able to squeeze me in for a last minute chip repair on my front tooth as I had (up close) portraits scheduled in a few days - and I was a little self-conscious of the chip. During my exam, both my hygienist and Dr. Winters took great care to understand my dental needs and what my priorities were for my oral health. Didn't get past the initial attempt to make an appointment. First, spoke to the woman that answered the phone, she was kind enough to check my insurance and let me know that I had enough to cover the cleaning and exam. I just moved from CA, had a lot of work done this year and wanted to make sure insurance would cover. Appointments were a month out to schedule, they would not do the exam and cleaning in the same visit. This was a dealbreaker for me as I don't want to have to take two days off of work instead of one to get a cleaning and exam. Secondly, I asked to have my records sent from my CA dentist which I was informed, would happen only if I sent them a release, making it clear they would not be taking care of getting my records. Not used to that lower level of service. No, thank you. Plenty of other dentists offices out there! read more

I wanted to make a new patient appointment here for a cleaning and exam. However the receptionist informed me that I would have to get a full series of xrays. I explained that to start I was fine with the check up series of four X-rays - but did not want the large set for a few reasons. I understand all the possible liabilities of getting an exam without a full set of xrays. Still - risk versus benefit I feel strongly that at this time I need to minimize my exposure to radiation. However they don't seem to care about the concerns of their potential patrons. It was get the FMX or go elsewhere. Okay. I went elsewhere. To me listening to your patients concerns and being flexible to help in any way possible is important in healthcare. read more

Paige's phone etiquette could use some work as she turned me off almost immediately with her less than warm & friendly attitude when I inquired as to whether their practice accepts my insurance. Admittedly, I initially mistakenly gave my medical insurance, but then followed up with my major dental only to have her question in a rather snobbish tone whether mine was the specific plan that they accept despite her assertion at the outset that they cover most. Then, Paige promptly announced the earliest appointment would not be until December as if to discourage or deter me from establishing a new patient appointment. Such a turnoff! Not a fan either. Recently had my second appointment and wanted to share the experience. I had made an appointment for some fillings that needed work, but when another tooth became too painful for me to take, they were willing to make another appoinment and let me swap the appointments so that I could have my tooth out right away. As with the first time, it was the most painless procedure I have had of that type. I also found out that Dr. Winter volunteers his time at the Union Gospel Mission doing free or nearly free dental work for the poor and homeless. One, Dr. Winter several times offered to show me what he was doing in my mouth. He handed me a mirror and pointed to the cavities he was filling. No dentist I've had has ever done that before. I've been going to Westside Dental for more than 30 years and each and every time I'm there all the staff are absolutely wonderful to me. The staff are professional and very kind. So I have never liked a dentist, I've always had cavity-prone teeth and every dentist I tried in the Olympia area wanted to do massive money making changes and procedures. The office I went to before Dr.Winter sat me down in their finance office (ps, any office that has a delegate room to discuss financing is a car dealership, not a dentist) and they wanted to do $10,000 of work on me. In tears I left that office. I came to Dr. Winter and explained my experiences. He was remarkably patient with me and said hey, let's just start from the beginning. We did have some work to do, but he was not aggressive in pushing procedures so I was able to get my teeth back to healthy without spending NEAR the amount the last office wanted me to. Dr. Winter is careful to know you and your situation before making a plan to care for your teeth. Plus, it's a welcoming atmosphere! Grateful I found his office! read more
