I came here with my sister after a workout class nearby to cool down and do a bit of work on our laptops. It's seems to be a fairly chill spot (although we came on a random Thursday morning!), which we loved! It's just what I need for a focused, and productive morning. Booths and a working bar that faces outward toward the Woodruff Arts Center courtyard. Plenty of outdoor seating, and outlets o' plenty. I honestly couldn't ask for more when I want to set up my laptop and have a solo or group work date. The staff is very kind, too. I love knowing that refuge has a job training program that actually empowers their employees. Then of course the chai and the pastries are on point. While I don't deviate from the usual very often, everything I've had has been reliably tasty. Without question, they'll see me again. Pro tip: Nab some street parking if you can. I love the mission behind this shop but their coffee is not the best in my book. The staff were nice but there was also only 2 people in for the weekend, I think they are busier on the weekdays. I think this is a great set up for people to be able to set up and get some work done. There is mostly booths for seating so it is somewhat private but it isn't the place I'd go for the best coffee in the area. They do have food options from pastries to lunch salad and snack foods, it's really nice to have this shop in an area near all the office buildings in the area. read more

Refuge is a cute little coffee shop attached to the High Museum. I felt like grabbing a nice iced latte out, so I walked over to check them out. This place is a no frills kind of coffee shop, but honestly, the Lavender Latte I ordered was perfect. Just the right amount of syrup to milk/coffee ratio. I didn't get a chance to read all of the signage, but my understanding is that Refuge is attached to a non-profit mission, which I'm always a fan of. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Next time I come back, I look forward to trying a pastry, and I plan to bring my laptop for work. read more

I'd heard a lot about Refuge over the last couple of years, but I'd never had the chance to stop by any of their locations until one Sunday afternoon when my husband and I happened to be hanging out and walking around in the area. First of all, I love their mission to provide job training and development opportunities for refugees and other immigrants--and that we get to play a small role by supporting their business. This location is very small right next to the High, so it's a nice option for grab-and-go, especially for those who may work in the area and want to walk and make one stop for coffee and a quick bite. I noticed a few food items from A Daily Chew, a local restaurant, in the refrigerator and everything sounded delicious. But we were going to be eating soon, so I didn't get anything. There were just a few people in line ahead of me. I ordered a large hazelnut latte, and the wait time was reasonable considering my place in line. The taste of the coffee beans wasn't the best I've had/as strong as I would have liked, but it was a good cup of coffee, the staff members were kind, the service was quick, and the establishment was clean. I don't drink coffee, so this review is purely for the chai--and it did not disappoint. It's got a nice kick to it, with strong clove notes and a bold, spicy profile. You can choose whether to add sweetener, which I appreciate since it lets you control the balance. If you're a fan of spiced chai that doesn't hold back, this one's worth trying. I ate here a few weeks ago during UPS Second Sunday. Luckily the line was not long at all, and there was still seating when my friends and I were there. We did sit outside on the patio (despite scorching temperatures), but they do have an awning so there is a little shade. I just got an everything bagel with cream cheese. My partner and I are on a mission to try all of the coffee spots in Atlanta. Refuge had pretty decent coffee although mine didn't taste as good as his even though we got the same thing. We both got oatmilk lattes but mine tasted a little watered down and slightly burnt. His was delicious though. We also got an almond croissant which was pretty tasty. I think mine may have been a slight fluke so I'm interested to see what their other drinks taste like. The coffee shop is in a cute little area of Midtown right next to the High Museum of Art. There is plenty of seating outside and it would be a really great area for coffee especially on a day with nice weather. Be warned, there is not a lot of parking around so it may take a little bit to find some street parking. read more

Midtown needed a great local coffee shop, and Refuge delivered! But this isn't any coffee shop -- Refuge Coffee Co. is a non-profit run by and for refugees and immigrants. They provide job training for recently resettled individuals, and are a wonderful addition to the Midtown community. Located at the intersection of 16th and Peachtree, tucked between the Woodruff Arts Center and High Museum of Art, this cafe is the perfect stop before or after exploring the area. Their hours are 7am-5pm and the vibe is always welcoming. It was moderately busy when I visited at 12pm on a Saturday. The shop itself has an organic modern, yet industrial feel, with wooden booths, mirrored ceilings with neon lights, and pampas grass accent pieces on the tables. It's very well designed for working, studying, or just grabbing a bite to eat, as the booths are secluded and the counter seats look out on art sculptures. The music when I visited was soft pop, which was great and not distracting. I had a medium chai latte ($6.18) and chocolate croissant ($6). People will say this is expensive, but considering a Starbucks drink is usually over $5 for lesser quality (and a less heartwarming mission), I think Refuge is priced correctly. My latte was phenomenal and the chocolate croissant was large, flakey, and hit the spot. I appreciated that they warmed it up for me, creating an ooey-gooey chocolate center -- just the way I was hoping! TL;DR: if you're looking for a great coffee shop in Midtown, look no further! I will definitely be back for more pastries and to try the coffee itself. read more

I first learned about Refuge Coffee because their food truck would stop by my Church on Sunday mornings. When I learned they now had a Midtown location we knew WE HAD TO GO. And we loved it! Thoughts and Recommendations: - First of all, their mission is beautiful. They provide job training and mentoring service to immigrants and refugees in Atlanta. Who doesn't want to support that?? - Ambiance is modern, clean and cozy. They really put thought into the details! From the light fixtures, wooden seating, to the floor to ceiling windows everything is lovely! - Coffee and teas for everyone! We've ordered regular black coffee and dirty chai's with oat milk and the drinks are always perfectly brewed. - Great work space! My husband spent a work afternoon here and had no issues with the wifi for conference calls and said there wasn't much noise either. So, if you're looking to change up the WFH routine look no further. - Service is wonderful. The staff and baristas have always been friendly and welcoming. We are big BIG fans of good coffee and pretty coffee shops and therefore a big fan of Refuge Coffee. Highly recommend! read more

Love what these guys are doing ! They employee refugees and focus on serving a product that creates a positive impact for their community. The coffee is solid. I only had the regular drip brew but it was a good, unpretentious experience. If you are looking for fancier, expensive coffee, you won't find pour over coffees here but for no frills it's perfect and the coffee is good. read more
