Mainly because I always do something drastic with my hair, or have a lovely massage. This being my favourite salon because it's an Aveda Salon, I try to come in here as much as possible. The amazing thing about this place are their Last minute deals on their website. I managed to scoop up a cut and style and a manicure both at discounted prices, both perfectly last minute before new years eve! I started my day of beauty with a shellac manicure. Typically, I go to these wham bam thank you ma'am kind of nail salons that are looking for a quick turnover. I was in shock when i was led down to the massage area of the salon and was given a manicure in one of the massage rooms. It was so peaceful and relaxing and the nail technician was friendly to boot. It's a rare occasion that any nail technician is chatty, let alone honestly seems like she cares about what you're saying. It was a nice touch. Next, she did my eyebrows, which were in desperate need of a good shaping. Again, another relaxing experience, everything was sanitary and clean, unlike other places in Glasgow that I've been to before. After I had my nails and brows done, i was led back upstairs to meet Jade, the stylist who did my hair. I always go in to Aveda when I want a change, and this time was no different. I was taken by an assistant who offered a complimentary head massage while I waited for Jade. Usually, I can take those or leave them, but I'm glad I took her up on the offer. With just enough pressure, she massaged my head and it was like heaven. I was just getting over a chest cold that was holding on for dear life, so it felt really nice to be pampered for a bit. She then took me over to wash my hair, which is always a treat, because Aveda products are by far my favourite and I always love using them. After that, the magic happened. My hair was just about past my shoulders and I decided to get an inverted bob. This style suits my face shape and it really brightens up my features. Jade is an amazing stylist, who is chatty and very confident when she's cutting hair. In between the cut and the styling, she blow dried part of my hair dry to get a better feel for how to cut it. While that was happening, the assistant offered me a hot bevvy, which I chose Hot Chocolate. She also gave me a complimentary hand massage. I was on cloud nine by the time I walked out of there. Of course I loved the end result and so did my guy, who I met for drinks after. It really was an amazing experience as always and I would highly recommend Jade as your stylist and James Dun's House as your salon!

This Glasgow branch is very nice, very trendy and modern, but it's very much in the shadows of the Aberdeen branch and so has higher prices to boot. My recent £38 crappy haircut in London (a self-esteem crippling pixie/shag/mullet hybrid) has been growing out for a couple months now, and I figured that while I was in Glasgow I might as well splash out on a crappy haircut, as it certainly would be less costly than its counterparts in England's capital have been. And I stepped into Essensuals. Sure, there are Essensuals in London, but I was feeling good about this little salon on St Vincent, around the corner from Glasgow Central Station - I mean, how could I go wrong by picking the closest salon to the station where my Glasgow-bound train from London dropped me off . . . ? I admit, this was a hasty choice, and I was fully prepared for the worst. But what I got was the best. I sat down, and my stylist and I pulled the pins that were previously hiding my haircut shame out of my hair, and she started running her hands through my hair (I swear with a baffled look on her face, unless I was imagining it). "What would you like done today?" "I got this awful haircut a while back, and I hate it." "What do you hate about it?" "Mostly the fact that it looks like a mullet." And so after some more discussion, we came to the conclusion that we'd bob it. I was fine with this, although still not expecting much. But the stylist took her time as she snipped through my hair, many times over. She commented on the sheer thickness of my hair, yet she never took out a pair of thinning sheers (this is my litmus test of good stylists). The end result was fabulous. She asked if I wanted anything changed at the end, and I made a non-committal statement about my fringe looking a bit too perfect; she chopped into it to make it a bit more funky and undone. Ultimately, I'm no longer embarrassed of my hair, and, for a Londoner at least, £40 for the amount of time I got in the cutting chair was a bargain. Unfortunately since I can't afford the £120 train tickets every month or so, the hunt for a salon in London continues.

The prices range depending on who is cutting your barnet. For a stylist it's £30, senior stylist £40 and by the creative director it's £50. They also do hair conditioning and replenishing treatments that start from a whopping £100. A very modern salon, very organised and not a hair out of place. Literally.

She actually listened to what I wanted, did not roll her eyes when I showed her a picture of the shape (a long bob), nor did she try and bully me into dying my hair or try to sell me products that I didn't need (though I did end up buying the Kérastase volume spray because it smells DIVINE!). My haircut was actually part of an itison deal, but after my experience and subsequent visits (I have since gone much shorter with trust), I would not hesitate to pay full price for the quality of service received. The ends of the hair feel brittle, when they had felt healthy before. It was clear they had no understanding of working with wavy / curly hair types. I also asked for light copper hair and have come away with hair that is pink! The trainee assessor has refused to accept responsibility for this. On top of that I was quoted £35 for the treatment and they charged £45. I was so numb from being in the chair for 5 hours (!) that I just paid it without question to get out of t

So off I waddled along the road - opposed to the twenty minute walk to my Hair Design usual. As mentioned above, the venue is nice, clean and well presented. It has a lovely atmosphere, the prices are reasonable and the staff are really friendly, quick and efficient. Though, I only had a trim in here - good as it was - so will need to get back to you with an update as to how they are with a proper chop and/or dye job.

Well that's the predicament I find myself in all the time. Fortunately when I was walking past Coda one day, I noticed the 'standby appointment £25' sign in the window and thought, yeah I could get my hair cut. So went in and got it done. The guy that cut my hair really listened to what I wanted and continuously talked me through what they were doing, it was great, I felt like I was in safe hands. Great cut, great chat, good price.

I've been visiting Glasgow for a few months already and I walk by Coda every day and noticed they accept walk-ins (standby appointments), so I thought why not give them a try? I first checked out reviews and others places in the area, but they seemed like the right kind of atmosphere and price for me. I don't really enjoy stuffy or stuck-up high end hair salons, as I always feel out of place and uncomfortable. That was not the case at Coda at all. When I first walked up those stone stairs to get to the actual salon that looks over Sauchiehall Street I was a bit nervous (trying new hairdressers is always a big deal, you know!). They didn't have any immediate time open, but I was asked to come back in 45 minutes and they could take me. When I got back I was greeted and taken to the chair right away by a long haired gentleman. I have never had my hair cut by a man before so this was new to me. I showed him the pictures of the pixie cut I wanted and he talked over a few of the details with me just to make sure we were both on the same page. Then he started to cut the length and the hair came flying off! I have never seen a hairdresser so meticulous and detail oriented about their work. It was a complete pleasure to have him cut my hair. I could tell that he didn't leave one single hair untouched and everything was done with absolute precision. Even the messy look I wanted styled at the end was a completely controlled chaos. He placed each tuft of hair exactly how he wanted it to make it absolutely perfect. I honestly wish I had gotten his name so I could mention him directly, but he's tall with long hair and tattoos, very nice, and obviously amazing at what he does! I can not speak for any other hairdressers there, but if they're anything like him then you're in good hands with any of them. I would most certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fresh and edgy new cut, because that's exactly what I got. On top of all that it was only £25 and I was informed they offer free fringe trims for returning clients. How can anyone pass that up? The only thing that bums me out about this whole experience is that I'll be leaving soon and won't get to have them as my regular hairdresser. What a shame!

Hairdresser: 'I'm CERTAIN the Flock Of Seagulls hairdo is coming back into fashion...' Me: 'You sure?!...' Hairdresser: 'Oh YES! Would suit you!' Thus my hunt to find a decent, honest and not to expensive hairdresser begins. I first came to the Rainbow Rooms Academy about 8 years ago and I have to admit my first experience was not a brilliant one at first - I seen to have landed myself THE most junior of juniors who at every stage of my haircut had to call over the 'director' to check her work, this is quite unsettling, especially when the 'director' gave a pause and sigh. Eek! Turned out she done a not bad job actually & (at that time) I only paid about £8 for this. Yas. I have since been back here quite a few times and never had anyone that was even slightly unsure of their skills - in fact they've all been very professional and I wouldn't have been able to tell they were a 'training' stylist at all. In fact one time I turned up and the girl that cut my hair had indeed graduated and was just waiting on a shop to be placed into so I effectively got a 'normal' RR's cut & blow-dry for less than half the price! Yowza. I've been here for cuts (usually £16 for an Academy stylist or £18 for a Graduate) and also colour ~ both root touch-up and highlight/colour also. If you're on a budget (or you're just not a big fan of spending more than £30 on a haircut. Who can blame you?) then this is a great place to go for a quality but cheaper haircut. I have honestly never had a bad haircut here. If you need to get your roots touched up and like to do it at a hairdressers then this is also a great place to come but I wasn't so impressed when they highlighted then coloured my hair - to be fair my hair was black at the time and she wasn't keen on doing it to begin with BUT she gave it a go and the results was just 'okay' and it also cost a lot more than I expected it to. Boo. If you've never been to a RR salon before then just to let you know they give all customers an AMAZING shiatsu head neck and shoulder massage - this is DIVINE :) I already love getting my hair cut/touched/played with (nowt dodgy like!) so this wee massage is just a wee tasty cherry on top of a hairy pie...oops, now THAT sounds dodgy...youknowwhatImeananyway. Hut-hum. Also the coffee & biscuit in here is lovely too ~ another wee bonus. There's so many staff in here for the amount of people who are getting their haircut, it's quite intimidating. It's gorgeous inside, with high ceilings, comfy chairs and nice mirrors. I'm not sure what criteria was employed when they decided what magazine would suit 'me' but I ended up with FHM. Intriguing. The actual end result of my haircut was very pleasing, as good as anywhere else I've been in town. Price wise though, this place is more expensive than my liking. I booked it for £24 over the phone, reduced from £41 (crazy dear for a gents haircut) but when I went to pay they tried to charge me £36. A flurry of activity down at the counter ensued which was thoroughly embarassing. Regardless, I politely explained the ins and outs and they fixed the error and charged me the price I was quoted. A really nice salon, but thoroughly pricy.

Anyway, the wife had managed to score some really rather decent discounts via some sort of special offer at the time, so we scooted off for a fancy haircut in our best " we're not poor honest guv!" clothes. Well, what can i say? From the moment we sat down in our electronic massage chairs to have our hair washed (its like lying on a chair filled with lots of squirming cats who strangely move in unison), to the wonderful coffee and Carmel shortbread and onto the consultation, cut and general non banal chat, this was one of the best follicle chopping experiences i have had....i'm so sorry small independent hair dressers....so sorry! Anyway, needless to say i have not been back for a further cut, despite looking so damn dashing after the first, but hey, i prefer to eat than have nice hair and with the regular pricing i would definitely have to choose between the two.
