When I returned she found 3 errors on the application, she said correct the errors, print it out before you return again. This was later afternoon on Christmas Eve. I wished her a merry Christmas and she replied "I'm just doing my job ". To me it sounded like "I was just following orders ". How would this have played out if I had not prepared? Now, an appointment ONLY speeds up your check-in. You still go into the same queue as everyone who's just walking in off the street. As a result, you will need to wait 1-2 hours beyond your "appointment" time. What's more, there are multiple different queues (L, R, Q, M) that all show up on the same screen, with no explanation as to what they are, or what system they're calling the numbers in. E.g. they will call L76 and L77, then call Q545, Q546 and Q549, not calling any more L numbers for 12 or 13 minutes. Nobody will explain this to you, so you can't even eyeball how long your wait will be. Only nice element is that they have a computer you can log into your email with and print out documents, in case you forgot something or needed something extra. That's thoughtful. These are very solvable issues. This could work like the passport offices do: appointment only, except for emergencies that are manually screened.

And then she asked "Do you have a MA credential" and I said "No, I just have CO," and she was pissed about that, but she started entering my SSN and she said "You DO have a MA credential, why didn't you tell me?" and I said sorry, that I haven't lived here in 20+ years and I didn't understand that she meant did I EVER have one, and then she kept saying how I was wrong, making extra work for her, and she could SO EASILY have just said "It's OK hon, no big deal," but instead she said "I ASKED you three times, I can't believe this, I'm never going to get out of here," (mind you it was still like 9:15 am) and then she said "I ASKED you if you ever had a MA credential" and I said "I'm sorry, I thought you meant a current one," and I was absolutely shaking with adrenaline but didn't want to make a big deal because she had all the control over whether I could complete my task so I just stood calmly. After a few moments of her doing the tasks on her end, which she did quite efficiently, and me getting my breathing under control, I did get to write the check and I said thank you, and I got the license plates I needed, and I said, "I'm sorry this was so much more complicated than you wanted," and at THAT point she was like "It's ok, thanks for your patience, bye honey" and all that stuff, but I was still struggling not to cry before my license photo an hour later. Chatbot: " The hours of operation are M-F from 8:30 - 4 p.m.' The only appointment I could get for the service I needed was 26 days out and the service needed to be done within 30 days. No wiggle room. The employees here belong in an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Seriously, they are next level stereotypical of a DMV douche. They bark at you if you don't have everything thete, despite the website almost giving no guidance on what to bring. They'll always find a form you don't have which you need. They show no mercy if you tell them you need something done within a time line. There is zero customer service, helpfulness or shit ... even compassion. Start to finish, including waiting in the first queue, was only 45 minutes. That's freaking amazing. Don't hesitate to grab a spot here if it comes up sitting online reservation availability. I had spent an hour and a half at the Cranston DMV the day before and they were not even close to calling our number. Staff was pleasant, patient and efficient. They have two security guards which I thought was excessive. Nope. A customer came in two hours after his reserved appointment , was turned away and he was pretty heated. They are, in fact, very needed. Also, these employees seem motivated to help and keep things moving. They don't make the rules. Read up on the DMV site to see what's needed, read all the fine print on the forms, be prepared and it should be smooth sailing.
