The open space has a calm atmosphere, with a small garden in the middle and majestic historic buildings surrounding it, including the Royal Danish Theatre, Hotel D'Angleterre, and several high-end shops like Rolex. It's a convenient meeting point and a pleasant place to pause while exploring the city. There's even a small pub on the corner, perfect for an Aperol Spritz on a warm afternoon. I don't claim this the most beautiful place in the city, but it's nice to pass through.

It's actually a very appropriate place for the park and his statue. The park is located along Esplanaden in front of St. Alban Church which has been historically known as the "English Church." It's a perfect setting! We stopped by on our way to see the Gefion Fountain and the Little Mermaid. There are benches near the Museum of Danish Resistance where you can sit and relax, or grab a bite to eat at the concession and/or hot dog stand. You'll also find the Valkyrie and Our Fallen sculptures and many other memorials at Churchill Park. One could spend a whole morning or afternoon exploring this part of the city. It's so worth a visit.

My husband and I were just trying to get to the Little…read moreMermaid to check that off our list, but Copenhagen is just so ridiculously nice that it threw a beautiful park in our path, so that we were forced to walk through it on our way. Had we done our research, we might have realized we were walking along the edge of Kastellet, a super cool star-shaped fortress. Instead, we just wandered through the park, getting impressed by the gorgeous greenery, the well kept trails, the ducks and water, the statues and fountains. There was some kind of crazily attractive church in there, too. Just an ongoing feast of lovely things that made the walk more memorable than the actual Little Mermaid. We don't have parks like Churchillparken where I live. If we did, I might get outside more often. This was a splendid place, peaceful and full of beautiful sights, and it didn't even seem like a particular tourist destination. I'm glad we stumbled on it while we were in town. You Copenhageners sure are lucky.

We just happened to see it when walking back to our hotel from the Langelinie. The fountain in the…read moremiddle of the garden immediately draws you into this lovely greenspace. It looked so familiar to me, and I didn't know why until I looked over to my right. It's the fountain that we saw in the distance from Amalienborg Palace Square. The symmetry of the garden was created with the Frederiksgade axis in mind. The best visual of this alignment would probably be from Frederik's Church. There are sculptured patina columns placed symmetrically on each corner of this royal path leading to the harbor. These are the works of the Italian abstract artist, Arnaldo Pomodoro. It brings in an interesting element that melds urbanization with nature. I didn't really notice it right away until seeing how the sunlight interacts with the columns when walking back towards the street. It's a cool feature! The rest of the garden is very well designed and manicured. I love the tall Boxwood shrubs along the wall. It gives the garden path a majestic look while obstructing the view of the street. It makes this garden a little more secluded from everyday life in the city. It was a nice stop along the harbor on our way back to Nyhavn and Christianshavn.

On…read morea beautiful spring/summer day, if you sit on the patio of Den Gule Cottage, you will get semblance of that viewpoint, in a more modern representation. The stretch of lawn that sits right next to Bellevue beach, it's a gorgeous green that has families and all sorts of nature lovers lounging and enjoying the weather. Perhaps the most relaxing moment in my whole stay in Denmark happened overlooking the people, the ocean and into Sweden.

Sure, the angry geese are still there - you better watch out for them - but this nice park is one of the best parks there in Malmö and when I say parks, I meant many since Malmö truly have a lot of nice parks for such a compact city (compared to Copenhagen). If you need "time out" after spending the day shopping and helping the Swedish economy, maybe you could have your fika as takeaway and head here on a nice summer / autumn day
