I will say I emailed 5 co-working spaces in the area and the Root was the only one that responded ?!?! Strange. Also - I parked "literally" 4 feet from the front door in free parking. Enter The Root--aka my new favorite place to feel like a productive, put-together entrepreneur . The decor? A+ vibes. It's giving Pinterest-worthy coworking goals with just the right amount of artsy coolness. The space feels so authentic to New Albany--like if your dream office and your favorite local coffee shop had a baby. They've got phone booths for private calls (so you don't have to whisper-yell on Zoom in a café), conference rooms for big boss meetings, and even event spaces if you're feeling fancy and want to host something. Oh, and did I mention the recording studio?? Podcasters, content creators, and people who love hearing their own voice--this one's for you ‍. The staff were incrediblely knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and efficient. I ordered an Iced Chai it was fair; however, I look forward to returning to try out the seasonal Fall menu. When I visited this week, I went with a fave that was also on the Pregame menu (I think): the Sting Like A Bee, made with espresso, caramel, honey and brown sugar. This was as good as I remembered. All of the pastries from Butchertown Grocery Bakery were beautiful and I'm sure tasty as well. This was delicious when I warmed it a bit and later ate it at home. The vibe inside was comfy yet a good coffee shop to work in. There were a few people in laptops around the bright space, which was pretty quiet. From doing a bit of research, it looks like Hotel Marty is now a cafe with apartments and workspaces -- an eat, live and work space. I love seeing how this iconic Clifton building has developed, still with its caboose -- yep, a train caboose -- attached. With so many cafes in Clifton and Crescent Hill, it can be hard to choose. But I will definitely be back to work and drink coffee at Hotel Marty, probably sitting outside on the patio, soaking up great weather.

However, I couldn't recommend this as a productive space long-term due to the stifling heat in the building, especially in the left half. After walking through a non-ADA-compliant brick hallway, single file, the heat was so bad that two people in my party had to leave the event early. I know the space still has some constructing to do, and I really hope that ADA guidelines are considered. There was only one working toilet on the first floor. For a collaborative space, I found the large room-length dividers imposing.
