The coffee shop has an indoor seating area as well as a patio. The patio is absolutely stunning and extremely laid-back and extremely peaceful. The coffee shop decorations are extremely cute and perfect for photos and the price points are economical priced. I received exceptional customer service from the staff. The staff were incrediblely knowledgeable, extremely friendly, and efficient. I ordered an Iced Chai it was fair; however, I look forward to returning to try out the seasonal Fall menu. They don't have a parking lot ;therefore, parking can be a little tricky so plan accordingly. read more

I haven't been to this spot since it was Pregame Coffee, and wow, what a change! Don't get me wrong: Loved Pregame Coffee! But Hotel Marty has a different vibe. It's a bit more grown up yet chill, perfectly appointed with still great coffee drinks. From what the barista told me, Pregame's owner still owns the building but a new crew runs the cafe. And a constant: Hotel Marty, like Pregame, shows its love for local. I was happy to see several other local brands sold in this space, including Butchertown Grocery Bakery pastries, Bluedog Bakery sandwiches, Phocus caffeinated water and Elixir Kombucha. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me go back to the drink I ordered, pretty important to a coffeeshop review. When I visited this week, I went with a fave that was also on the Pregame menu (I think): the Sting Like A Bee, made with espresso, caramel, honey and brown sugar. This was as good as I remembered. A slightly indulgent morning pick-me-up. I also got a Peanut Butter Banana Handpie ... because how could I resist??? All of the pastries from Butchertown Grocery Bakery were beautiful and I'm sure tasty as well. This was delicious when I warmed it a bit and later ate it at home. The vibe inside was comfy yet a good coffee shop to work in. There were a few people in laptops around the bright space, which was pretty quiet. What I will definitely come back for, though: the outdoor patio! If you put a chandelier outside I am there! This space is covered as well. Just check out my pics. From doing a bit of research, it looks like Hotel Marty is now a cafe with apartments and workspaces -- an eat, live and work space. I love seeing how this iconic Clifton building has developed, still with its caboose -- yep, a train caboose -- attached. With so many cafes in Clifton and Crescent Hill, it can be hard to choose. But I will definitely be back to work and drink coffee at Hotel Marty, probably sitting outside on the patio, soaking up great weather. read more

I stopped by Pregame on a random Wednesday to try out their matcha latte and find a remote work place for the morning. The iced matcha was pretty good and the breakfast wrap (whip is more like a quesadilla) was tasty too. I opted to sit downstairs at a table to get some work done. No issues with the Wi-Fi whatsoever. I was literally the only patron in the place that day, which seemed to be particularly appreciated by singer/guitarist who was playing to an otherwise empty room! The barista was friendly (as was the musician), and my americano was well made. Since it was December, they had some holiday themed drinks and I tried the white Christmas which is a white chocolate mocha and cinnamon flavor. Our first visit was on their 1 year birthday! My husband and I were impressed with its owner, Rob, and his backstory of opening Pregame Coffee. He's proof that the best laid plans could never have imagined Covid, but he's still standing. Pregame is located down from the Nulu Marketplace and I appreciate street parking is a available (no meters). This stop offers coffee, cocktails and a mix of the two. Cans of beer, soda and other options available. Snacks include pastries, beef sticks, Clif bars and other healthier choices. We got the Sting Like a Bee (caramel and honey sweetness on ice). Very good - and before we left we bought more coffee, a hit drip version for my husband and cold brew for me. Like cold brew? They have growlers. Outdoor tables sit on the sidewalk and on a nice day a garage door opens up the shop to the breeze. Tables and couches are inside as well as a private room for rental. Other than snacks food isn't offered but can be brought on site. I'd love to use the space for a business meeting. A nice change of pace for bringing creativity to the surface. It's a place to get coffee and watch sports. It's also a Bar. I came on a Saturday afternoon to check it out. The menu is basically a tribute to sports. Some of the lattes have names related to famous athletes! My sister and I got the sting like a bee latte and the 33. The sting like a bee was a honey latte. The 33? Don't remember what it tasted like but it was good! We also got a cheese scone and a cookie. Always need some snacks. Parking is parallel but it's not hard to find around here. We parked right in front! The shop is located rig he next to a fitness center so it's possible it could get busy in the mornings. It's good to have more coffee shops around NULU. For working purposes, the layout was perfect for setting up and getting stuff done. The decor was really nice, too. The upstairs area kind of blew me away! Coffee is something that I always enjoy and make a part of just about every single day. Since coffee is such an important part of my day, I find myself always searching for great places to experience coffee because coffee is exactly that, an experience and one that I feel, can set the tone for the entire day depending on what you decide to drink. Pregame Coffee is one such place where the coffee is truly and experience that your senses will truly enjoy. Upon entering this establishment the first thing your senses will immediately pick up is the incredible smell of the coffee which is the pregame in and of itself before treating yourself to what will be some of the best coffee you'll ever experience. The menu has a lot to offer from delicious coffee concoctions and teas but the real treat here is their list of coffee cocktails all of which feature an amazing blend of various coffees with Kentucky bourbon whiskey. One such item which is a staple here is the Kentucky Coffee which is a mix of bourbon, cold brew coffee, vanilla and brown sugar and one that on this particular day I decided to try. The Kentucky Coffee is unlike any other coffee I've had and the cold brew is quite cold yet extremely full of flavor and when paired with bourbon, vanilla and brown sugar it makes to such an incredible mix of flavors that will have you wanting another glass. The environment at Pregame Coffee is one that is very chill and welcoming for all ages and features a rather large main area that does an excellent job of social distancing and making sure patrons are wearing masks except for being seated. There is even a movie theater type room that hosts movie nights on various days. With all of that being said, Pregame Coffee is certainly going to be my new place to experience coffee and one of my first picks to come and enjoy a fine drink while watching sports or even a great place to come and enjoy the quiet and relaxing vibe this place has. My first visit was when I attended the NuLu Jingle fest for Yelp Elites. I couldn't really rate the place since this was an in and out visit for me. I ordered the Hot Mocha Latte in a small size at the time and it was full of flavor and at the right temperature. Now I been back a few more times since then and Rob the owner was there working behind the counter. Very friendly guy and great to get along with. I really do like his concept of this business that doesn't just serve coffee but also beer, wine, tea and more. And, the fact you can come watch sports here probably best when Covid dies down hopefully soon. My most recent visit was when I ordered the 33 which I have read among my fellow elites that it was a favorite and I'm game to try some new things. I'd have to say it's my favorite as of now until I try something else on the menu. If I lived in the area I'd be here more often than not. But, I will visit when in the area. Rob is doing such an amazing job and keeping a positive attitude during this difficult time for businesses. I can't wait to see this place thrive once Covid is no longer a hot topic. read more

Stopped in on the way to work and am SO glad I did! The space, coffee and owner are all delightful. Totally recommend! COFFEE: a really great mix of standard and creative coffee options. I wanted to try the French Toast latte and Rob, the owner, made suggestions based on my less sweet preference to reduce the syrup amount, add more cinnamon and suggested I try oat milk. He was spot on and it was perfectly seasonal without being too cloying. He uses Ntaba for most prepared drinks and also has West Lou coffee for purchase. He uses both in his variety of cold brews (and offers a cold brew flight so you can try them all!). ETC: The coffee game is strong but there's also a fridge full of other drinks, local beer on tap and some great cocktails. Whatever you drink of choice is during a game, you should be covered! Also some simple food options: meat/cheese board, quesadilla, panini and toasted PB&J. Would love to see some simple bagged snacks/popcorn/nut mixes when game watching is back on the menu. SPACE: a great blend of industrial workshop and sports memorabilia. The perfect backdrop to the hangout atmosphere that Rob, the owner, is going for; he revels in creating an experience, not just a perfect cup of coffee. The main room has safely spaced chairs and tables before you reach the coffee/bar zone. There is a private viewing room with two comfy chairs + an larger table. Rob mentioned that he is able to rent that space for small groups (less than six) after hours and he has already booked it for a COVID-safe date night. What a great way to safely treat a child or loved one in your family to something special without risking public spaces. SERVICE: Rob no only did a great job creating my customized latte, but also shone at genuine conversation and pride about the community he is creating here. He is working on space within the website to allow deliveries (likely Mon-Tues). I appreciate his ability to create unique offerings (like an upcoming mug+ coffee gift set) during COVID. We stopped in this morning for a quick pick me up. My sister & I both got the iced "33" it was really good. It's not overly sweet but just enough! We love how it's not an artificial sweetness. They put just the right amount of ice. Not stuffed with ice but not so little it taste watered down. My husband got the hot "33" & loves how creamy it is. It's strong on top of that. So it does the job. We love the inside & the aspect of it all. Can't wait for Covid to disappear to really enjoy the insides full potential. Their menu is very unique. I want to go back to try their toasted PB & J sandwich. My next coffee choice will be a hot drink "Sting like a bee". The coffee names are named after Athletic icons. Swung by pregame on our way out of downtown to pick up a coffee. There is street parking and the shop is small but cozy. There was no one else in the shop which made it nice for us as I don't eat/drink inside since the pandemic. The batista was friendly and efficient. I opted for the 33, espresso with 3 shots each of vanilla and Irish cream syrup. It was very good, could have been a little hotter but the flavor was tasty. The space is rustic with big screen , couches and table and chairs. They have two rooms actually. With the back room having a very large screen and a couple of theater chairs. The space also includes more than one area to watch games on big screen TVs, but the sound from the games isn't broadcasted throughout the space at crazy volumes all the time like at most sports bars, but rather via app to your individual headphones. There's nice music playing in the general space, but at a volume that makes conversation possible without yelling, which is also excellent. It's within walking distance to other fantastic NuLu shops & restaurants making it the perfect pit stop during holiday shopping or just a quick place to stop for coffee that doesn't take you all the way into downtown where parking is impossible. I had the Cinnamon Toast Latte, which was EPIC. It was my favorite childhood cereal in a grown-up beverage. Inner kiddo me was happy & adult me was caffeinated! I also had the chance to talk to the owner who was very excited to be a new business owner in our great city. I loved his enthusiasm for his unique business concept & hearing his inspiration for all the details of the space made me want to be a regular! I highly recommend giving Pregame Coffee a try! I first noticed Pregame Coffee a month or two ago; however, they've been open since May, so I'm super happy for this excuse to try them out. By the time I arrived at Pregame around 1:30 PM, fellow Yelpers had exhausted the supply of both the Military Latte & the 33 in honor of #ThankYouThursday. Wow! Well done! That said, I had already planned on getting the sparkling coffee (espresso + Topo Chico), and threw in the cold brew latte for my partner. The owner, Rob, was working behind the counter and making drinks, and I was thankful I had read about Pregame prior to to visiting. Rob's attention to detail was apparent as he kept his work station meticulously clean and he even answered all my questions about the ongoing book club. (Did you know they have a book club? Join it! One book per month: a perfect way to get through winter quarantine, especially as Pregame will begin takeout & delivery in the near future.) Ok, I digress. I want to give five stars: great menu offering different drinks than other coffee shops in Lou. Serving West Lou coffee, which again is a great change from the other local standards (Good Folks, Quills, Sunergos). This might also be the only coffee shop in Louisville serving a latte or cold brew for less than $4.00, and for all my vegans and lactose intolerant folks, non-dairy milk options include almond, oat, and - yay! - hemp. So.. Why four stars? I wish the espresso in the espresso tonic were slightly lighter. The dark roast didn't quite land with the Topo Chico. Although I actually prefer a darker coffee, my partner was thoroughly uninterested in the tonic after trying it. (Good thing it was *my* drink, eh?) Also, unfortunately, of the seven people in the shop, only Rob, myself, and one other were wearing masks. C'mon, Yelpers, we can do better. This was my first experience here, we just moved in near by. I ordered a cappuccino, it was small but a little pricey ($4.00) . Good enough to be worth it though. Outdoor seating so I could bring my insane little dog. Next time I'll try a snack too. I've discovered I'm a little lactose intolerant, but I didn't ask if they have Oatmilk, so a small was probably better. The outdoor seating could use a little shade with all the heat we're currently experiencing but it's pleasant enough. Maybe that will happen in time.
