For a small fee you can come and take the guided tour. It's a little more than an hour. The lovely views are worth the price. The historic value is just stunning preserved here. It was rescued in 1964 before being destroyed. These historical artifacts are the passage to the past. Come and see how a collection can help us understand the past. Open to the public [New Albany IN]…read more Along East Main and Market Streets contain a concentration of historic residential properties... this is New Albany's Mansion Row and the William S Culbertson Mansion is one of them offering a 60-minute guided tour. We came at the last hour... just in time for a tour inside the mansion. Admission is $13 (but we qualified for the Seniors rate -- yay! best part in turning 60 LoL!) Our young tour guide was very knowledgeable and well-informed about the property. We started in the foyer and worked our way up to three stories, ending in the kitchen. The mansion is a French Second Empire-style structure and at the time of his death in 1892, Culbertson was one of Indiana's wealthiest men. Rooms that were shown to us included the FIRST FLOOR: Informal Parlor, Formal Dining Room, the Formal Parlor (which can be rented as an event space), Library. SECOND FLOOR: Morning Room, Daughter Blanche's Room, Daughter Anna's and her husband's Room, Dressing Room, Mrs Culbertson's Room, Mr Culbertson's Room (still under construction) and, yes, they each have separate rooms. THIRD FLOOR: Son, Samuel's Room, and across the hallway is another room under construction but has some exhibits and history material on display. From here we headed downstairs to the servant's quarters and finally the kitchen on the ground floor. Lastly... during Fall and Halloween season the Carriage House is transformed into a haunted house. They call this event the "House of Anguish." Alexis did an amazing job with the turn around between the wedding and the reception. The parking lot isn't very large, but honestly for an average size wedding it's adequate. The highlight of this venue is the beautiful wood floors and the windows that seem to stretch from the floor to the ceiling. The balcony that surrounds the main hall is a wonderful setup. The owner is very particular on what vendors participate in any wedding at the Calumet Club, so be sure to have all your vendors checked out and approved by the owner before booking them.

For dessert, we had two types of delectable, tasty treats: succulent chocolate cake and bourbon bread pudding. I was really surprised by the flavor of the food. Normally, the food at these types of venues is not flavorful, or tasty and even the texture of the food is not good. Imagine my surprise at delightful, savory nature of the food. I wanted to gorge myself, but decided against it. Anyway, this atmosphere is a nice space for small-to-medium-sized party. The climate and culture dating back to the 1800s still runs through the city today. The company that operates Angels Envy is Louisville Distilling Co. The founder was Lincoln Henderson. This gentleman went to college right here in Louisville and after forty plus years of working in a distillery worked his way to the top as master distiller. His own brews are pretty good too. How about Jack Daniel's Gentleman's Jack. That was Mr. Henderson. The building that Angels Envy occupies was occupied prior by American Elevator and Machine and American Saw. Later it existed as Vermont American Complex, then it was abandoned. The site was deteriorated but became the place where in 2010 revival. The Henderson family and Louisville Distilling Co made their permanent presence. They invested in the surrounding area too. They made a massive complex when you visit . Now come and visit today. Learn the basics of how the Henderson family double distills their Angels Envy in a wine cast barrel after aging. Taste the quality of their legacy that will establish and endure the ages.
