As a retired RN, I am on high alert with any medical care facility. My sister was in aother…read morefacility in Salinas an extended period of time while we serched for somewhere closer to scottsvalley. The smell, the poor staffing, bad food, and no 'licensed' care givers continued to get worse. Divine intervention arrived and my sisters condition bumped her up to a level where skilled nursing was necessary. Salinas Memorial transfered her to Eden Valley Care center even farther away from family. The difference was extraordinary. The staff are trained, care giver to patient ratio is above state requirements. There are cleaning staff and laundry staff so that the CNAs are free for patient care. There are LVNs and RNs in house. The food is tasty and a good balance of nutrition, and there are physicians, social services, and specialized services available within a short period of time. No waiting months if the patient needs to be seen. The environment is cheerful and there are caregivers taking pts. outside to the garden or sitting for a visit in with a pt. in the open areas. The young men and women are compassionate, attentive, and response time to a call button is within minutes. Thankfully my sister is now recieving the excellent care she deserves. Having endured the other "assisted living" place in Salinas, which was heart breaking, gave us the comparison and appreciation of what we now have.

Being more like a home environment, Colby (Director) ensured patients' safety, cleanliness and managed the facility very well. After dad was released from Stanford ICU, he stayed at a vent facility-Aberwood Gardens in Saratoga across from Prospect High for a little over a year. He then transferred to Windsor Garden in Salinas and was able to go home occasionally because by then we had a ventilator at home. He then moved to Care Meridian where they only accept private/VA insurance.

My mother-in-law lived at Wesley House for three and a half years, until she recently passed away…read moreat age 99. It was a difficult decision for my wife to sell her family home of 63 years and move her mother to a full-time care facility, but circumstances and physicians' directives required the move to take place. Wesley House is a clean and calm environment for the very elderly, and was a very good fit for my mother-in-law's needs. Wesley House staff also worked well with Hospice of Santa Cruz and my mother-in-law's private caregiver (who became her part-time companion while at Wesley House). We want to thank the facility's owner, Janet Leon, and the compassionate staffers, particularly Hilda, Carmen, and Horte, for providing excellent care for my mother-in-law, especially since my wife and I live in another state and could only visit every quarter. No mumbo jumbo. just a straight shooter. I was very impressed. She was not the usual type medical provider I've been referred to lately thats reading the referral and looking at their watch as they greet you. She was very clear in what the Vertigo test would consist of. This was not a hearing test, just the Ear Channels and Chrystals therein. She explained the tests would only take a couple of minutes and if the ears were the problem it would be an easy fix. She put some kind of googles on both eyes, that sent information to a machine that deciphered and showed eye movement on TV Screen, which gave her an indication of which Inner Ear Channel may be causing a problem. She ask my wife to watch the TV screen so she could see what was happening. She tested me 3 times cuz she wasn't believing my 1st result based on my age. Spent about an hour with me asking questions, etc. When we talked about the Black Eye I had several months ago she said vision can also affect Dizziness. Luckily I have an Eye Doctor appointment next week If your having Dizzy spells or think you have Vertigo or been diagnosed with Vertigo, you should definitely see Lynn Herbert for testing and treatment. She…read morewas on medical leave for more than two months after a surgery so I was unable to see her after another episode of vertigo and I went to another physical therapist... I was declared vertigo free by this individual however, it cropped up quickly again after my treatment. Fortunately, Lynn became available and I went to her and because of her expertise, many years experience and her excellent training plus the use of camera goggles she got me over this last bout as she always has in the past. Key for me has been the therapist using the goggles with cameras so they can see exactly what the eye movements are and I believe that is key to successful treatment. Cannot say enough about her. She knows her stuff snd she's an excellent practitioner, compassionate, and understanding as well.

Our son relapsed after 4 days and had a bi polar manic episode within days. It was a placeholder at best. He is worse off than before he went.

Staff failed to properly change and care for him, which led to him developing one of the worst bed sores I have ever seen. No patient, especially someone elderly and vulnerable, should ever be neglected like this. This place appears severely short-staffed, and the lack of proper attention and compassion showed every day. Families trust nursing facilities to provide basic dignity and medical care to their loved ones, and I feel that trust was completely broken here. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone of any age. My grandfather deserved better treatment in his final days. I hope this review encourages the facility to make serious changes so no other family has to experience this pain. May my grandfather rest in peace.
