" A quote from my Operative Report of a left knee ACL reconstruction. After 9 months of rehab I went to return to normal activity, only to find that my knee would violently give way. I returned to Slauterbeck to tell him about my episodes, he first attributed it to "pain inhibition" and I went on my way. The problem reoccurred followed by serious swelling and pain. He then gave me Anti-arthritic synthetic synovial fluid. OK you can see where this is going. He finally agreed to an MRI, the issue a cyclops lesion. I second surgery STILL did not resolve the problem. So yes it was the screw. IT WAS EVEN NOTED IN THE PRE-OP MRI. Lots of pain and cartilage degeneration later I saw another doc, Dr. Boynton in Rutland. He removed the screw and said and I quote " The surgery took longer than expected, the previous surgeon used an outdated screw, and we had a hard time locating a bit to remove it". The issue of my knee giving was resolved. However today I have significant meniscus and articular cartilage damage. DO NOT SEE SLAUTERBECK . I then had all of my appointments cancelled by them after being sick the following week and calling to let them know because I had been a "no show" even though this wasn't true. They were extremely rude and called me untruthful when I have no reason to lie, I was going based off what I was told. They told me I was "changing my story" and that "Andy would never do that" when my story had not changed at all, I was communicating that it was unfair to have all my appointments cancelled when I was simply following orders. I have been waiting months for this care and to be treated like this is absolutely unacceptable. I have never been treated this badly by healthcare professionals before.

Well that extra has made me bone on bone. He wanted to do another operation. I got second opinions from Dr. Scott Rodeo in New York and Dr. Thomas Gill in Boston. Neither recommended the second surgery and when pressed said that they probably would not have done the first surgery. Nichols also did not mention alternatives to surgery even when I specifically asked about them even though he must have know that they were there. Beneath that calm charming exterior lies an arrogant surgeon. Avoid or you risk the rest of your life being compromised on a daily basis.

I waited less than 5 minutes. Intake with assistant was thorough, professional and friendly. Xays were done on the spot. Ten minutes later pictures had been reviewed with doctors and treatment options were presented to me in detail. I have arthritis, and injured my knee (direct impact, knocked down by a 60 lb dog running fast straight at me, playing our chase game). I chose a cortisone shot, which was administered painlessly by Seth. (Although I was advised to expect relief in a few days, tonight the difference in stiffness and pain is remarkable.) Seth recommended exercises that would strengthen the supporting musculature around the knee, and said water aerobics is ideal. I left feeling very appreciative of and impressed by the care of this team and the efficiency of the office. That has remained constant for the past 15 years that I have been a patient here.

The horrible part is the paper thin walls which allow for the conversation in the next room to reverberate in the room you are in. If they were talking about the injury of the other patient, that would be fine, but that is not what they were talking about-they were "shooting the breeze and talking about a recent move, etc. This went on for 20 minutes...After all of my wait, Dr. Kaplan spent less than 10 minutes with me, giving me no real answers or follow up appointment, only sending me away-returning to the other room with the patient he had been talking to before. I can't believe I had to pay a 20 co-pay for almost an hour and a half for an 8 minute doctor visit that gave me NOTHING. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
