Now I can say I've been to a true live auction! Went to check out this month's police bike auction…read moretoday at Fenske Auctions (located right by Coliseum or Rexall Place). Wow, were there a lot of people ... I think it was because it's spring and bike season is upon us, so people are trying to get an affordable bike where they can. I'd say there were about 100 people there, maybe even more! The bike auctions occur here on the first Saturday of every month after spring begins. The bikes are mostly previously stolen ones that haven't been reclaimed and so the police get rid of them via the auctions. Viewing is from 8:00 am to 10:00 am on auction day. The auction goes from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm or until everything is done. The bikes are lined up in rows and are brought up to the bidding table once the auction starts. The auction takes place outside (it pretty much looks like a junk yard) and everyone stands around the bidding table in a semicircle, raising their hands for bids. It's pretty cool to see the auctioneer do his thing -- it's a real talent, those guys talk so fast you can barely understand a word they're saying! My fiance's old roommate said he got his bike here for $5, but I guess times have changed. The bikes we saw today were going from anywhere between $50 - $300. Still, depending on the bike's condition, that's a pretty good deal for a bike these days. Most of the bikes looked like they needed a good tune-up or some new parts, but there were a few that looked very brand new going for less than $200, which is a major steal. If you go, go early for parking and viewing. Then snag a spot in the front of the bidding area, so you're not stuck behind all the tall people when the bidding starts. And bring cash, because it's a cash only auction. Happy Bidding!

I had (please notice the word had and not have) been dealing with Yellowhead Auctions for years,…read moresince their inception actually with mixed emotion from so-so to awful..My last "consignment" with them was approx 40 pails of brand new 5 gallon adhesive glue. I had no room for it at the time so I decided to sell it at Yellowhead Auctions. Almost all of it except for 2 barrels was unopened and in perfect condition and some of them were worth $300-$400 a barrel. Ron (the owner) told me it would take a while but he was sure he could sell it in time. I waited approx 8 months intermittently asking if it had sold yet, and finally I was told I could pick up my cheque. Now I have been going to auctions for many many years, in fact my Uncle used to run his own auction and I remember buying my Mom a pickle dish (with my Dad's help) when I was 4..I am 65 now..Point is I am no auction newbie, I know well how they work and I am neither delusional nor immune to "getting less than expected" for my items. I say all this as a precursor to my utter shock and dismay when Eva handed me my check for a whopping $47. 18 !! Now if anybody wants to tell me that Ron spent 8 months selling 40 .. 5 gallon pails of high end adhesive and only sold it for $61.34 !! ( $61.34 - 30% commission = $47.18 minus G.S.T) ) 8 months and that's all you got..bull**it) If that's the case then either you know nothing about auctions or you are totally naive or both. This was a flagrant rip-off to the Nth degree.. there is no way in hell that product only sold for $61.34, no way not a chance in hell..First off it's only common sense that it was indeed selling that poorly then no auctioneer would waste their time and continue selling it. They would simply tell the consigner (me) that it is just simply not selling well and come pick it back up..Fact is I got royally ripped off by them and I mean but good.. Well I never said anything when I grabbed that check, I just bit my lip and took it like a man.. but I knew right then that I was dealing with a total crook and I would never darken their establishment again..I now warn every one I can about what I experienced and let them make up their own mind if they want to go ahead and deal with them..Once a crook always a crook in my mind ...Karma is a bitch Ron.

This probably is the grubbiest auction I've been to in Edmonton. (seriously a little paint would…read morego a long way in that place.) But you have to look past that as you can sometimes get some pretty good deals. They charge15% buyers fee plus 5% gst. on top of the price you bid and like with everything it's buyer beware. Also you have to have a pretty thick skin and try not to get offended as the one auctioneer can be pretty aggressive and rude if the mood strikes him. I've seen him shout at people and kick them out in the middle of the auction (sometimes justified /sometimes not). The only thing I will say for these guys they will usually point out damage on items up for sale (which a lot of other places will try to cover up).

I really dislike saying negative stuff, but this is defiantly for the manager Lani I believe her…read morename is. First off. I chose some nice lotions and they put them at the front of the store- ( perfect no problem ), then I went and found a tall and large mirror, so I brought it up to the front as it didn't fit in a cart, and I already had other stuff there as well. WELLLL, when I brought it to the front, she RUDELY told me to get to the back of the line to pay ( there was nobody in the lineup ) and it took me several times to TRY TO EXPLAIN to her that I can NOT put this in a cart and I would like to finish my shopping... so finally she pointed at one of the other employees who were busy to come grab it and move it so she didn't have to... then, I go finish my shopping... every employee was amazing there... but then, I was asking the lovely lady who was ringing my stuff thru where a good place to call my uber driver to pick me up around here with my big huge mirror and all my other big bag full of stuff would be ... big mouth Lani manager crappy attitude eavesdropping bad word human decided it was best to tell me to arrange my uber ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE MALL where the TD bank is.. under the overpass... ( the most ridiculous place anyone would suggest especially as a manager) to pick me up.. my mouth dropped .. ( there is absolutely NO STOPPING OR PICK UP IR DROP OFF THERE AT ALL )... and I nicely ignored her and asked around to get interrupted AGAIN by Lani... then she suggested me to go to the Library .. ok.. sure.. then I noticed my phone wasn't in my pocket and I couldn't believe when I asked her to please help me by calling it.. she did . But i have a 403 Calgary number and she was losing her cool by the second.. no other help of any kind with a solution .. so i had to leave my stuff there and wonder the store until i found it.. whatever - that's my fault anyways.. I just guess that I assumed she could have used a cell phone as it was closing time to help assist me promptly so i could leave the store in a timely manner.. .... So she had wrapped up my big mirror and I get home excited.. I start to unwrap it- and all the tape she used pulled the paint off the frame and now I have to uber it back there and exchange it for a new one, and i honestly am having a hard time affording this extra almost 30$ to bring it back and deal with her and then uber BACK home with the new one.. Not even anything close to a fun shopping experience today... tis the lame start of this season with crappy management at City Centers Winner's named Lani... should call her "Lame-y"...
