"Black Hole Sun" does not play in the background but if you catch the wind just right you can hear the melody as these instruments get played by natures orchestra. There is a cool little path with words and a nice bridge to walk over that passes through some natural stone seating. This park is flanked by water and a field of reeds/grass. It was a fun trip going to the "Harry Potter" library at UW and then visiting this little federally protected park. You will need a day pass as well as a early visit as this park is only open until around 4:00PM. Wear your sunscreen.

We drove up to a station with guards and showed ID, and they gave us a visitor pass. Then, we were able to roam the grounds and we made our way to the sound garden. The area is right next to the ocean, so there is always a good amount of breeze, which creates this eerily beautiful whistling from the sculptures created. It was breathtaking, and beautiful. Also, there are trails and a dog park around the area. Altogether, a beautiful place to hang out, picnic, or journal.

With pedestrian traffic and cars going by, it might be easy to miss but this plaque is here and if you look, you'll see the tunnel it notes. "Great Northern Tunnel. Completed in 1905, this one mile long railroad tunnel provided access to the new passenger depot and the expanded frieght yards south of King Street. The tunnel was built at the suggestion of City Engineer R. H. Thompson to relieve growing street congestion in Downtown Seattle."

While walking to work this plaque jumped out of me after years of passing by this location. This…read moretunnel marker provides some historical facts for this tunnel that takes you under the city and to northern locations. Both freight and passenger use this tunnel, and it definitely looks like it has some age. The plaque is also looking like it needs some additional preserving. I do wonder what massive efforts it takes to maintain these historic landmarks. With Washington's historic neglect regarding bridge maintenance, I wonder what the condition of this tunnel is. At some point I will see myself going into this tunnel to visit the northern territories, and I'm looking forward to viewing the full history of this tunnel. For now, I'll settle with the daily view in the hustle and bustle of downtown Seattle's transit center.

But I did notice that a large majority of the buildings were a bit run down . The majority of the buildings were made of red bricks. There were an few occasions we would come across a building that stood out from the rest. A fine example of this was the "Freedman Building " located on Maynard Avenue South Seattle. It was quite unusual for me to see a non Chinese name on a building smack in the middle of Chinatown. Even the color of the facade was different than the neighboring buildings next to it. This four story ornate building stood out like a gem ! The building was commissioned by businessman Louis Freedman of Portland Oregon in 1909 and designed by an local architect William P. White. Adam's Hotel occupied the upper floors while business occupied the ground floor.The hotel offered low cost lodging for the average working person from 1910 - 1972. The building was renovated in 1980 and reopened as the Freedman Apartments in 1983. Today it is still serving the average working person with low cost housing ! Thanks for reading ! Walking from Queen Anne hill to Westlake/South Lake Union area?…read more TAKE THE BRIDGE! The Ray Moore pedestrian bridge, that is, at Galer Street and Aurora/99. I had to meet a friend on Dexter in the South Lake Union area, and also had to walk the dogs. Living in Lower Queen Anne, the last thing I wanted to do during the Bite of Seattle weekend was walk down Mercer Street, inhale fumes, and risk being a victim of vehicular homicide while making my way through the Mercer underpass with three canines in tow. An energy-efficient light bulb illuminated over my head as I thought, "Oh, yeah! I gotta take the pedestrian bridge!" I hoofed up the hill for a bit, moved east on Highland, north on the 5th Avenue uphill fork, past the dead end sign, through a condo/apartment parking lot and found myself on the Galer walk path. Warning for anyone who does not like physical activity: there are many, many stairs on the Galer path. We finally got to the Galer bridge, went over and presto! On Dexter without all the fumes and vehicular homicide risks. I can not wait to come back to Renton and explore more. The quaint downtown area gives a "small…read moretown" feel in contrast to the booming urban landscape of nearby Seattle. I regret not patronizing the alluring shops, as many closed before 7pm. I fell in love with the uniquely situated library. Think, "A River Runs through It"! The city has had tons of restaurants, bars, parks, and larger shopping centers where you'll be sure to find something to do. Or just enjoy the quiet. I'll be back!!!

Steve T was very patient discussing our needs, and the process before we submitted our application. Scott was great at the inspections. The Renton Senior Activity Center has one of the best facilities and programs around. I have compared senior centers to other municipalities when I visited, such as the Olympia area, and now I know even more what a wonderful city I live in. Renton has wonderful green parks that make use of the Lake Washington lakefront and of the Cedar River which runs through town. Lots of bicycle paths are available and some outdoor exercise equipment.

The Garden of Remembrance is definitely a great place to stop and enjoy a warm summer day, but the stone is less inviting in colder weather. You will find various stone monuments with various quotes and memorials carved throughout the garden. There is also some water that flows here during warmer weather, but like all parks, you may find that attracts some less than desirable park companions. With plenty of seating space, this area can be a quick respite while you journey through the city. Many people during the week are local employees escaping their corporate prisons, but your average Seattle denizen can be a wide range of characters, so be prepared for anything.
