First of all, it was located in a quiet area, so we felt safe. The staff was very friendly and everything was very clean. I was quite happy with the overall value - for an economical hotel, the room was spacious and the cable channels generous. Free WiFi and our room had a microwave & fridge, too. It was too cold to try the pool and outdoor jacuzzi, but the free continental breakfast was nice. My wife especially liked their waffle-making machine. BTW, the Big Thicket Visitor's Center and Kirby Nature Trail are just a few miles to the north, and definitely worth checking out.

We rang the bell and she finally came up. Checkin was easy. Pool was out of order, it was green. They do have a sign that says out of order. Elevator stinks, rooms are out dated compared to other Super 8 hotels I've stayed at. We check room for bed bugs, didnt see any. I did find a dead wasp on my bed and a spider. Took for ever for water to get warm in shower. The shower head in room 225 needs to be repaired. Kids running up and down the hallway. Outside the entrance there are multiple wasps nests, be cautious. I will say the A/C does blow cold. But that's it. The cold A/C earned a star. My crew will not be staying here when we come in town for work. Beds are also very un comfortable. Have a good day.

And, to be fair, there isn't much competition in Livingston as far as hotels go. But this one, at present day, needs a lot of work. I saw signs in the lobby that they are planning a renovation soon, so maybe things will get better. When I checked in there were signs everywhere that said that there would be a $250 fee for smoking in the rooms. The first room I checked into obviously didn't pay attention to that because it was super smoky smelling and then also the solution that they use to make the room not smell like smoke anymore was strong. The sweet front desk employee let me change rooms. My second room was dingy and dated, but didn't smell like smoke. The curtains were broken and the air conditioner barely blew air out. Maybe because it's Southeast Texas, but everything just felt damp. I thought the breakfast was pretty decent, and the breakfast host was really friendly and nice. I had a couple of premade omelettes, some cinnamon roll and yogurt. They were all decent and better than you might expect. The hotel also had a machine that you could make your own pancakes, but I didn't do that.

(From June-July, 2023)…read more A very modern marriott staple that I'm pleased in in an area like Port Arthur. I did an assignment for a couple weeks from June-July in the Bridge City area and decided on staying at this place. I'm glad I did as this is one of the best hotel options in the area; and also one of the better marriott hotels I've stayed at anywhere. How so? Well, newly constructed hotels will have more updated features including new breakfast items, modern online connectivity, interior designs, and bathroom toiletry items. Obviously this place has all those. Plus it's probably the cleanest hotel I've set foot in for quite sometime based on my travel experiences and hotel lodgings. The room had plenty of space with a stocked kitchenette, a lounge sectional w/ computer prop, and desk area. Customer service and staff are on point with attentiveness and handling areas of need. No doubt this is a must-stay if you're in Port Arthur or the Bridge City area.

Came for an adventure, stayed in luxury!…read more I didn't quite know what this place was when I walked in, I was just in town on an adventure, visiting friends from this area where I grew up. A good friend of mine who used to work for Marriott says "All hotels are running on a skeleton crew with people who hate themselves and are a second away from disaster, but if you want a clean room, you can't do better." Check-in was done by a good-humored, handsome redhead. When I walked into my room, I was pleasantly surprised by the size, layout, and amenities of the room. The wifi was unsecured, but that's why you should always bring your own VPN. I adventure around town, visiting friends and catching up on decades of life, coming back to my comfy room at the end of the day. I wouldn't really try the hot food at breakfast (about 7:30am), but I am looking forward to sleeping one more night on this ginormous bed. Really liked the fact that the staff takes care of some cats outside. I'm a big cat person, so this warmed my heart.

I have mixed reactions to our recent visit and. I have wavered between giving this review 4 or 3…read morestars. We have visited this retreat for over 35 years previously known as Chain 'O Lakes. We have noted and appreciated the improvements made over the years. Beautiful, serene, rustic setting-a great place to unwind. -WIFI worked well and consistently throughout our visit. -Cabins basically clean, good beds, clean bed linens and generous numbers of towels. Dining table, dining chairs, side tables and coffee tables as well as couches are well worn. Basic dinnerware and eating utensils; there are no skillets, pans or cooking/serve ware utensils such as egg turners, no mixing bowls...you need to bring these with you. -Communication and information lacking. The website does not provide current updates to the facility and the status of its amenities and services. We had planned to enjoy one meal a day at The Hilltop restaurant and it was closed for our 3 day/2night visit. We had planned to have burgers/snacks by the pool and the snack bar was closed. These unannounced and unexpected closings caused us to leave the retreat and find a grocery store 15 miles away. Then we had to select food items that could be baked because we had no pots/pans or skillets nor utensils to cook and serve with. Amenities not in service included The Hilltop Herb Farm Restaurant, the snack bar beside the pool, and the hot tub. ***PLEASE NOTE: The reason I am giving this review 4 stars is the congeniality of the people at the front desk. Had they been rude I would have dropped one or more stars.*** When I inquired as to why the restaurant and snack bar were closed I was given these points of interest from the very nice young ladies at the front desk. Additionally they very graciously responded that they would inform management about my concerns. -Oh the restaurant is closed during the week-well sometimes it's open. It will be open this weekend I think. (Well, I was leaving on Friday!) -Regarding the snack bar being closed: Well it's only open if the restaurant is. -We've been slammed with big groups and some summers we are more family oriented. (I'm sorry, I was not advised that inconsistant hospitality was a management strategy!) -Regarding the hot tub; well, things break. (Understandable that things break, but how is it being addressed and will it be repaired before my party leaves?) -Carriage Rides? Nope, not in service. There are limited hours of operation for the gift shop which has gifts, snacks, and fishing supplies. It would be a convenient service if this area remained open until 9 pm. A nice evening walk to this area for an ice cream for the kids would have been a nice option. Overall there seems to be a lack of attention, concern, and dedication to providing guests with current information and procedures in order for guests to have an excellent experience. When O think of this visit I feel the most descriptive words would be "sad and lacking". It stings a little to pay the prices of our stay and to have so much broken or closed. I could have spent much less and had similar natural beauty to behold at a state or national park. I do hope that management will button things up quite a bit and provide a friendly, enthusiastic, friendly staff, with current information easily and readily available regarding amenities, services, and procedures for checking out canoes and other equipment. Suggestions: -E-Post daily retreat schedule of events -Paddleboard rentals -tennis or pickleball -a kid/teen rec area with ping pong, tv movie rentals, vending machines

The place needs a remodel, the shower floor is very slick, I almost fell, no slip mat for the tub. I talked to the Manager and discussed these items with him. As I was talking with him, another gentleman checking out told the Manager I was correct and he would not stay there again. Now the cream of the la cream. They charged me twice for the same night! I filed a complaint with Texas OSHA and called Hilton corporate. There was 1 great thing though, Samantha who worked there is a rockstar! Went out of her way to help us! They need to make her manager.
